Our most peaceful visit to the island

  • 5 of 5

Our 4th visit to St John and our most peaceful visit yet. We stayed in the studio and loved it! Both Russ and Liz were great! A very hard working couple that were always available if we needed them but we never felt they were intruding. As mentioned in other reviews the cottage has everything that you would need. During our stay Russ completed an upgrade to the water storage and supply for the studio ,which worked wonderfully.Although remote, the cottage is a short walk to the bus stop which stops at Salt Pond Bay and then heads back to Cruz Bay. The buses seem more reliable than in past years, and the price is only $1/per person.

If you like to hike ,the cottage is close to several of the most popular trails. Beaches are nearby and Coral Bay has plenty of good choices for dining. We found the cottage to be perfect !! We are planning a trip for next year and hopefully will stay at the cottage/studio again.

Repeat customer / Excellent place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I have stayed at this cottage twice now and cannot say enough great things about the place itself, as well as the property owners. Both times we've stayed, we found the experience all around to be very smooth and easy - beginning with the planning back and forth by emails with Russ. He is quick to respond, and can provide helpful information on everything from rental car agencies, ferry information, and weather updates! Upon arrival, the cottage is completely ready for you with fresh towels, clean bedding, and both times we've stayed the place has been fully stocked with everything you'd need from matches, coffee filters, and even a hair dryer! We cannot say enough about how clean and tidy the cottage is, and how comfortable you are as soon as you walk in. My husband and I enjoy lounging on the deck (although there is no water view, it's a very peaceful place to be!), and often times you see geckos and birds landing right there in front of you! We enjoy hiking, going to the beach, dining out, and even making the trek into Cruz Bay often - so for us, the cottage is a perfect "home base", and we really don't mind the fact that it's kind of a hike to get from the cottage to anywhere else on the island - we enjoy the scenic drive! Lastly, we can't say enough about Russ (the owner). He was truly a joy to be around and was always checking in on us to be sure we were comfortable. He is a great guy - take a moment to stop and get to know him! The cottage and the overall experience has our highest recommendation. Enjoy your stay!

All I can do is repeat what everyone else has already said. Beautiful, quiet location that's a pleasant walk from a great beach, and also walking distance to some other lesser-known but wonderful snorkel spots. The cottage was spotlessly clean, and we had rainbows every morning at breakfast. If you want a bland, air-conditioned motel room, this is not for you. If you are vacationing with someone you don't like, this cottage is too tiny for the two of you. If you want a private, tropical hideaway in a gorgeous setting, you can't get any better than this.

Owner's Response: GREAT!!! Glad you got to see rainbows in our little valley after rain. Will pass along "spotless" comment to our cleaning lady . Wonderful to have her when we are back in states for a holiday .

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome!

We loved every minute at the cottage. Very quiet location, close to beautiful beaches, and off the beaten path. The studio was everything like the pictures showed. Toured the main cottage and it was really cute too. Most days we went hiking in the morning, hit the beach in the afternoon, and came back to cottage to make dinner, while listening to some music and enjoying a glass of wine or two on the deck. Doesn't get any better then that! If we go back to St. John, we will definitely stay there again. Liz was very helpful and we enjoyed talking with her.

near perfect experience!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the location (and price) of the cottage. We stayed for a week in the studio. The cottage is small, but functional. We were able to make breakfast and lunch at the cottage and eat dinner in Coral or Cruz Bay. The cottage had more livable space on the outside patio except, unfortunately for us, the mosquitoes hatched a few days prior to our arrival so being outside on the patio wasn't an option. Just as an FYI-the bed doubles as a couch and the bathroom is "open" (door is a curtain) which took some adjusting too.

The location couldn't be beat! We walked to 4 beaches from the cottage. In general, the area is hilly so it might be challenging for some individuals. The Salt Pond Bay trailhead is 5 or so minutes down the road. Salt Pond Bay is a great beach. It could be considered "rustic" but it was our personal favorite. It wasn't overly crowded, beautiful clear water, and great swimming.

Additionally, there are two rock beaches within walking distance. It took a few attempts to find them but they were beautiful. For close-by snorkeling, Kiddle was pretty good. It wasn't better than WaterLemon cay though.

We walked to Lameshur bay beach. It is a hike, but a very nice beach!

Without a doubt, if we have the opportunity to return to the island, we would stay in the same location. The area felt very safe, driving distance to the Northshore beaches wasn't too bad, it was away from the hustle bustle of Cruz Bay, and there are good places to eat nearby (e.g. Skinny Leg's cheeseburgers, Concordia pizza night, Tourist Trap's lobster rolls, Miss Lucy's brunch). The only thing I'd do different would be spend a little bit more money and stay at the other cottage rented on the property. We took a peak and there was a lot more space. Granted, we didn't spend too much time in the cottage but the sun does set surprisingly early in May (6:45ish) and a little more space would have been welcomed.

We stayed in the studio at Lameshur cottages for 10 days and fell in love with the place. The studio is beautiful, and beautifully situated, overlooking this sweet valley. The roofed porch is a charming outdoor room where we spent much time, always cooled by the breeze blowing down the valley. We walked to the beaches we love - big and little Lameshur, Kiddel, Grutpan and Salt pond, easily caught the bus into town, and walked to the nearby Concordia resort for a drink or dinner. Liz was there to help out whenever we had a question. She keeps the place in perfect order. Everything is clean and fresh, orderly and pretty. We would go back in an instant, and recommend both cottages highly. We stayed in the studio, but also toured the larger cottage, also a wonderful place to stay with a bit more space. We spent our last two nights at Concordia, which is spectacular, but we much preferred our studio at Lameshur Cottages.
