About Mary Kanai
For the past 13 years my husband and I have owned an inflight catering business in Lexington Ky. I inherited the Peddler's Fork Inn several years ago and after a three year renovation I am happy to offer it for rent. I grew up an Air Force Brat and have lived all over the world. My father General James Little grew up not far from here and returned upon his retirement to build this retreat.
Why Mary Kanai chose Beattyville
Our property is pet and child friendly. During the summers we often returned to vacation here while my father was serving in the military.

Peddler's Inn Extraordinaire
What a fabulous place! Furnished and decorated with beautiful antiques, natural wonders and whimsy, this place immediately felt like home. We especially loved the screened in porch and wonderfully appointed kitchen. I will go back!
Glad you appreciated our eccentric style.
Our stay worked out very well. There was plenty of room to have a family reunion, with lots of yard space for the kids to play outside. The owner was very thoughtful with the items she made available, from breakfast food in the kitchen to new toothbrushes in the bathrooms. We are definitely interested in booking again.
Thank you again for staying. We are adding a deck off the kitchen for
Larger groups to enjoy. Look forward
to you returning to Peddler’s Fork Inn.
Perfect getaway in the gorge
The photos didn’t do this place justice! You have to see it to truly appreciate the appeal of Peddlers Fork Inn. The attention to detail that Mary gives is wonderful. And the amenities are first rate. A small touch like Cottonelle bathroom tissue instead of Scott tissue goes a long way to impressing guests. The kitchen was stocked and there was a brand new grill — all for us to use. The decor was neat - everywhere you turned there was an interesting antique or unique Knick knack to check out. The property outside was beautiful when I was there. So private & peaceful. And we enjoyed using the outdoor fire pit every night, especially the night of the full moon. Plenty of space for the boys to catch football & baseball. And great woods to hike in; we even saw wild turkeys! The directions were spot on. You feel like you’re out in no mans land, but you really aren’t far at all from zip lining or kayaking at Daniel Boone. All in all, we had an awesome visit - thank you Mary!
Memorial Day weekend stay 2019
The actual cabin was very cool. It is very secluded, nice kitchen, lareger living room, nice screened in porch. The property is not cleared for hiking. This was deceiving on the description. When we arrived the alarm was armed on the cabin and we were not aware. It took several minutes to contact the owner meanwhile terrible noise fir us/dogs. We had to call the owner to have her turn it off. Once inside we found a letter indicating that the air conditioning in the master bedroom was not functioning and that we had a fan that we could use that we had to put together. It was a 90 degree weekend and no one was able to utilize the biggest bedroom/bathroom the entire stay. We also found out that the refrigerator had not been working possibly overnight and all the food was spoiled in the refrigerator. The owner simply said go to the store although the breakfast items and items in the fridge were listed as part of the amenities of the rental. The breaker had been blown. Once flipped frig worked but had to go buy ice to keep the food we brought cold. The only other bedrooms were a room with 2 twin beds, one room with a pull out couch bed. There were 3 of us and again, the biggest room was too hot to sleep in. Sleeping on a pull out is very uncomfortable. When we told the owner how upset we were with the situation and that a pull out sofa bed is not comparable to a master king size, she said it was a $2000 sofa and very comparable, she seemed offended that her sofa bed was not comfortable! Why not just put a bed in there? She said none of the things that happened she could control and said "what can I do to make you happy?". We said we would discuss it and get back to her. We decided to ask for a night's credit After multiple messages back and forth she eventually just told us since we weren't happy she thought the best thing to do was to check out. On a holiday weekend and go where?? We finally got her on the phone and had a discussion with her about the situation and how unhappy we were with how she was handling the situation Her response was "do you all work?" Which had nothing to do with the situation. She was very rude and very inappropriate for a business owner. She eventually made it right by granting a credit for one night stay. I would not recommend staying here. Although the cabin is lovely she was terrible to deal with.
I’m very sorry to hear that Cathy was disappointed with her stay at our property. The day before they arrived I had cleaned the cabin and left in the evening. While I was cleaning I discovered that the split-unit in the master bedroom was not working properly. I immediately contacted my HVAC service company. They indicated that they would make every effort to address the situation as quickly as possible, considering it was a holiday weekend.
When I left the refrigerator was working. A storm moved through the area that night and was most likely the cause of the blown fuse. When I was contacted about the refrigerator I offered to reimburse them for any groceries they may have needed to purchase in order to replace the items that they deemed unsuitable for consumption.
I included the alarm code in a message that I send to every guest before they arrive. Luckily I immediately responded to the situation, which no doubt must have been rather jolting to the guests and their pets. Although the master bedroom was unusable, the first floor encompasses over 2,500 square feet and is centrally air conditioned. That area accommodates 4 guests comfortably between two rooms and is equipped with a double vanity full bathroom.
I asked Cathy what compensation I could extend to her and her friends that would remedy their concerns. While responding to the guests I was also in communication with VRBO to inform them of the situation and to ask for advice as to what appropriate measures should be taken. After lengthy discussion between all parties we came to the agreement to give Cathy and her guests a credit for one night of their stay.
We are new to the VRBO community and take great pride in our accommodations. Unforeseen blips do occur. But, if you, Cathy, would like to give us a second chance, we would be very pleased to instruct our chef to prepare a meal of your choice for you and your guests.
Thoroughly enjoyed Peddlers Inn. Beautiful property, well maintained, stocked with kitchen and bathroom supplies, comfortable king bed with nice linens.
We really enjoyed relaxing on the screen porch and in front of the massive stone fireplace. Also, a leisurely hike through the woods.
Mary was very responsive during our stay. She thinks of everything to make your stay special. From all the supplies, breakfast items, fresh flowers and the fire ready to light.
Would definitely recommend this cabin and hope to return in the future!!!
