About this property
Peaceful Setting in 1919 Farmhouse Surrounded by Nature.
The little farmhouse is situated on 20 acres in the rural area of Battle Lake, Minnesota. There is a preserve to the west, situated on undeveloped lake shore, a soybean field to the south with open hay field to the east. It has a prairie garden that was started as a preservation site for the disappearing monarch butterfly. Those who come to visit may wish to see this noble butterfly in its natural habitat. The farmhouse is very clean and kept in its original 1919 character. The cooking stove is propane. There is one studio bedroom with a full (53 x 75 bed) and similar size podium bed upstairs in the loft. There are skunks under the old barn, marmots under the old feed shed, red and gray squirrels, fox, coyotes, beaver down at the dock at night and deer who pass through to eat the apples from the trees. A guest may or may not encounter wild life, but if so, the owner asks to observe but not disturb. A coyote or raccoon may wake you up at night. It has its resident bald eagle (utility company cut down its nest in 2018), raptors and a multitude of birds depending on the season. There is a main house on the property to walk past, through a grove of trees, to the lake dock or one can drive to the main house and take a shorter walk from there. There is bass and sunfish fishing off the dock. One can swim off the dock but there is no sandy beach. There is no television, the house has connected WiFi. There is an outside fire pit and if it is a cloudless night you can see the stars, there is no light pollution. The sunsets and sunrises from the dock are beautiful. This place is for a special type of person(s) who wish to have a relaxing time in a rural setting.
Update; in May of 2022 a horrific storm came through that toppled many 60-70 year old trees. The guests will still see some down trees. The area is now being replanted with sugar maple, white pine, native birch and red and burr oak.

Beautiful area to stay at. It doesn't have much for sleeping spots, as the beds are small so if you want more space to sleep on maybe bring an air mattress. Otherwise very nice overall.
The farm house was a great stay peaceful and full of wildlife to observe. Also in a good area for different places to explore hiking fishing. Thanks again Jean for the wonderful stay.
Loved everything about my stay. The peacefulness and charm of the farmhouse were exactly what I needed to truly unwind. I was able to read five books, catch up on some much-needed rest, and soak in the beauty all around me. The owner even checked in with me to see if I needed anything. Would stay here again.
Overall, a good experience. The beds were not the most comfortable, but everything else about the experience went well. It was cozy to disconnect from TV and such and just watch the animals and nature around us. We are hoping to come back when the snow is gone, the lake is open and the weather's warmer.
What a great find! This is a rustic farmhouse, but nicely stocked. The property is quite private and has a short walk to the lake. Jean was wonderful as she told us the history of the property and the surrounding land. We would definitely go back.
My mom and sister and I went on a girls trip back to the area where my mom grew up working in the summers at the resort, her parents owned. Our visit included seeing friends from around the lake and spending time fishing and on the beach at Stalker Lake. This little place was the perfect size for the three of us and close to everywhere we wanted to be. It’s nice to know. We will have a place to stay in the future.
Great stay! I wish I had turned the ventilation system on sooner, that was really helpful to make the place more comfortable. The toilet seat is broken and that made it feel a little unsteady. Otherwise, the place was very charming and as described in the listing. Jean was a great host!
My boyfriend and I were looking for a peaceful, country setting to celebrate our anniversary. The house is amazingly beautiful with all the amenities we could need! Jean was responsive and considerate during our stay. Will come again!
Amazing farmhouse in the middle of nowhere. We enjoyed the house and the lake. Jean, you have put a lot of beautiful details into your remodeling. Your choice of books and amenities was above expectation. I especially love the stove!
