Historical Camp

A family of 18 thoroughly enjoyed their week stay. Plenty of room to spread out across the two houses. This historical camp is rustic and charming. Sam, the owner, was highly responsive and accommodating. We all loved our leisurely days atop the boathouse gazing at the beautiful lake and mountains.

This might be the perfect vacation rental. Our host Sam was fantastic, walking us through the property and providing not just basic check-in information, but also facts and famly stories about the historic property. The houses themselves are amazing and comfortably housed our party of 15. We lived at the boat house, swimming from the dock and sunbathing on the roof deck. The beach was perfect for night-time fires and stargazing. The great room in the Main House became our gathering place for games, puzzles, meals and music. Epic trip. highly recommend.

Fantastic Family Vacation

We returned for another summer to celebrate my mother’s 92nd birthday. My family LOVES staying here: the beautiful rooms with views, incredible fully equipped kitchen with walk-in refrigerator, the lakefront with boathouse/sauna and private beach, and the wooded location is a dream. The houses are spotless and well organized. Our favorite experiences are sitting on the deck with breakfast or appetizers and enjoying the lake view! We can’t wait to return!

Plenty of fun even when it rains

we were almost glad to have a couple of rainy days. With a fire in the wood-burning stove, the pool table, and lots of inside room for whatever games people wanted to play (many are provided), the house was just cozy. Lots of baking also occurred.

Fantastic property!

We had a wonderful family reunion at Camp Massapequa! The property easily accommodated all 20 of us, with ample room for group activities, but plenty of nooks and crannies for quiet time as well. We loved all the activities available, and spent hours at the boat house and on the lake. The houses were well appointed with plenty of kitchen supplies and high quality linens. The place is rustic and unpolished, but still felt luxurious. All in all a wonderful stay!

Another great stay...

We returned for a second visit to Camp Massapequa and enjoyed it just as much as we did the first time. We love the history of this home and appreciate all the furnishings and decor that also exist in photos of the property from the early 1900s. The size allows our large extended family group to spread out when we'd like but also to gather for meals and games. The property owner responded quickly to a few maintenance needs that cropped up. We hope to return again to what ends up feeling like summer camp for us!

Saranac Lake Escape

So interesting to stay in such a historical property! We LOVED Saranac Lake. We did not want for anything at the house and the Guest House was a wonderful addition! Sam quickly responded to any questions we had prior to our stay and was equally responsive during out stay. Wonderful hosts. All of the water equipment was great. We rented a pantoon boat from the marina around the shore from the property and this added even more fun to our stay. Thank you to Sam & Family

Happiness on the Lake

We had a three generation family of 13 gather at the property. Occupying the main house and the gust house, everyone had their own bedroom. There was ample space for socializing, board games, jigsaw puzzles - indoors and outdoors. The kitchen contained every conceivable pot, bowl, tool, dish, glass that we could use. The dining area accommodated all of us with room to spare. The dock was great for swimming. Some of our group used the kayaks. We had nightly campfires in the firepit in the beach. The property is pet friendly. We had privacy as well as easy, quick access to town. All in all, we had a great experience. I recommend this property for any large group

The Best Memories Made!

We were a multigenerational group ranging in age from 5 months to 86 years & coming from Ohio, Texas, & Alaska. Camp Massapequa's rustic old elegance with its interesting history was the perfect setting for our group! The many family mementos & collected items had us constantly wondering about the stories behind them. We had everything we needed to prepare meals for our large group & seat 18 around the large table in the common area for dinners together. The kids enjoyed playing & roasting marshmallows at the beach & all kayaks, canoes, etc. were in frequent use. While we had planned some activities in the area, we ended up venturing off the property very little since no one really wanted to leave. Sam was prompt in responding to questions both as we prepared for our trip & during our stay. We are hoping for a return visit in the future!

Grand Old Dusty Dame

Glorious location with amazing boathouse and views. Lots of nice kayaks, canoe, paddle boat, etc. for use on the lake. (The lake and estate site can be quite windy). The sandy campfire area was delightful for evening bonfires. House must have been spectacular in its prime but is a little worn and weary. A bit of TLC and updating could restore some of its grandeur. It still has a great deal of old Adirondack camp estate ambiance and charm. Sam could not have been a more responsive or caring host. We were the first guests of the season—and a very heavy pollen season it was—so gazebo and guest room porch had lots of dust and could not be comfortably used. For someone with allergies or asthma, dust could be an issue. Rugs and carpets were also dusty. Kitchen had a few wrinkles that required Sam’s attention but was otherwise very usable and well equipped. (For example, there was no microwave.) As many reviews mention, the walk in cooler was wonderful. The great room/dining room were excellent gathering and dining places. The three bedrooms on the first floor of the main house were quite small compared to the other bedrooms. Overall, the space was most conducive to large family gatherings and we had a wonderful time!

I do want guests reading this review to know that the place is old but certainly not dusty. Our cleaning crew takes great pride in the upkeep that is done seasonly, weekly and yearly to make this location sparkle for visitors. Also there are 3 microwaves so there is no reason to think there are not. Thank you.

The house and property were a perfect get away for our family. The beach and boat house were ideal for the small kids in our group and allowed us to spend many hours playing by the lake. The house itself is perfect for hosting large groups with a sprawling porch and roomy kitchen. I would definitely recommend the house to other groups.

Gorgeous location!

The photos posted online don't do this property justice. As soon as we drove up we were impressed by how stunning the views are. We had a small elopement ceremony with some friends and family in the boathouse, which was a perfect backdrop. All the boats, the pool table, and other amenities, as well as hiking and going to great breweries and restaurants in the area kept everyone with all their different interests happy. And Sam is a great host, very responsive and helpful. We definitely will be coming back!

Awesome Adirondack Retreat

Camp Massapequa is a fabulous property offering everything we were looking for in an Adirondack Retreat. The quiet serenity and amazing views on Lower Saranac Lake were exactly what our family was looking for. The Boat House and beach area offered something for everyone. The great room and kitchen in the main house easily accommodated our large family group of 16. Sam was wonderful to work with. Gave us a tour of the place when we first arrived and provided some great background on this history packed property. Really quite amazing!

Amazing Family Trip

This was our second time staying here and we love it. The place has so much character it is simply amazing. There is also a ton of amenities, from an amazing kitchen area and walk in fridge, to lake towels, kayaks, firewood and so much more to mention. We just love this place. Grab a beer, sit on the poolhouse deck and watch the sunset.

I'm a local guy who with a company in LA that builds recording studios for professional music and film engineers. My wife and I moved back here some years ago, and we live in Saranac Lake. My family owns a few vacation rentals in the area but this is by far the biggest most historical location we possess. This estate is near and dear to us and has been in our family for generations. I was swimming off the dock of this boathouse with my siblings 35 years ago and my mom 30 years before that. It's lovey to share this place, and the Adirondack experience, with folks from near and far. My family and I are excited to host you!

This area is so rich with beauty in every direction. The Adirondacks is the land of lakes and they are fantastic to venture through by land and water craft. With an easy to use Lock system boaters can get to the many different lakes that make Saranac Lake area one of a kind to explore. The local town of Saranac Lake has a wonderful vibe that makes all types of people feel welcome and at home. From Party On The Patio with live music every Thursday night to local events and Saturday morning Farmers market to enjoy its hard not to feel like you have experienced something wonderful in the far north of New York State. Voici ce qui rend cet hébergement unique

Nothing short of a step back in time this property harbors so much history. The Floyd-Jones camp, on Lower Saranac Lake, was designed in 1906 for W. Chauncey Floyd Jones of Long Island by Coulter and Westhoff, architects. The Floyd-Jones family was from Huntingdon, Long Island and Massapequa. They named their new camp, "Massapequa". Their son, Roy A. Floyd-Jones, was born in New York City June 19, 1891. Rita McMartin LeMay married Roy A. Floyd-Jones. Roy A. Floyd-Jones died in 1964. Manuel Quezon, the president of the Philippines, came to Camp Massapequa in June 1943 and again in June 1944. He had been invited by President Franklin Roosevelt to establish a government in exile in Washington, DC, but Quezon had tuberculosis and was looking for a better summer climate. The McMartin camp was secured for the visiting head of state, as were the services of Dr. John N. Hayes, a specialist at the Trudeau Sanatorium. Quezon and his staff stayed at the lodge on the lake and he claimed to be much improved after his first Adirondack summer. However, when he came back in June of 1944, he was much worse, and he died on August 1st. After a high mass celebrated by Dr. Hayes' brother, the Most Reverend Ralph L. Hayes of Pittsburgh, who just happened to be visiting, the body was taken by special train from Camp Massapequa to Washington, D.C. Many of the Coulter Great Camps in the Adirondacks have been bought and sold but Camp Massapequa has not which leaves its history intact. The whole 13 acer estate is a beautiful sight to behold and we are very happy to welcome other family's and their friends to experience it.
