About this property
Stay at Midships for a one of a kind oceanside view!
Hot Tub!! Come and enjoy the gorgeous accommodations and spectacular, unparalleled views of Southwest Harbor at 'Midships' at Windward Shores. Windward Shores is an exclusive 3 unit condominium enviably situated at the head of the harbor on the shores of Southwest Harbor. Don't shy away because of the word 'condo', this is no cookie-cutter condo! Windward Shores is not part of a larger complex. It is just one custom built waterfront property in a quiet residential neighborhood, with a homey, cottage feel. 'Midships' is the largest of the 3 condos boasting 3 levels, floor to ceiling windows, private patio, deck, sloping lawns, and private dock.
From the gleaming hardwood floors and spiral wooden staircase to the granite counter tops and tiled doubled-headed master shower, it's the attention to detail that make 'Midships' a cut above the rest.
With truly breathtaking views from any of the three levels at 'Midships' as well as from the deck and private master patio with hot tub, you're ever close the the ocean. Closer still, step out to the sloping lawn, where you'll find seating and a Chiminea (outdoor fireplace or 'fire pot') just above the shoreline and access to Windward Shores own private dock, all right in front of you!
Attention to Detail: As you walk into 'Midships' main level, you are consumed by panoramic views of the harbor. The open floor plan of this level allows you to soak in the views whether you're cooking in the kitchen, relaxing in the sitting area and watching cable on the flat screen HDTV or dining at the table with family and friends. The fully appointed kitchen has gorgeous granite counter tops, stainless steel appliances, including a double oven, cook top stove, refrigerator with water/ice dispenser and a built in microwave. Take the spiral staircase to the upper level and find a great spot for watching the activity of the harbor, enjoying cable on the flat screen HDTV, or curling up with a good book. This level also offers a bedroom with double bed. In the lower level you'll find the master bedroom with hot tub on private patio overlooking the harbor, tiled master bath with double-headed shower, a second bedroom with twin beds, and another bathroom with tub and shower. Plenty of room to spread out!
Away from the crowds but close to everything! Situated on the 'quiet side' of the island, you can enjoy the real Downeast Maine away from the crowds, but still be within minutes of world-famous Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. You can explore all that the park has to offer by yourself, take a guided tour or take Mount Desert Island's bus, the 'Island Explorer', available to the public free of charge! Destinations include just about anywhere you want to go on the island. There are a number of outfitters located on Mount Desert Island that rent bicycles and kayaks, several with walking distance of 'Midships'. A stroll into Southwest Harbor or a short drive to Bar Harbor and you can enjoy a wide variety of activities from the most relaxed to the most rigorous, dining for all tastes and budgets, and shopping in many unique shops and galleries. Regardless of your interests, 'Midships' and the surrounding attractions are sure to make for a fulfilling vacation!
Come in the Fall-Beautiful Foliage, lower rates! : The months of September and October are a fabulous time to come to 'Midships'. The rates are lower, the crowds have left, the weather is comfortable and the foliage is spectacular!!!
Have school-age kids but still want to avoid the crowds, why not come to 'Midships' in June!

We love Southwest Harbor and have stayed at Midship a few times now. Great property, great host and we love the view. It is on the quieter side and a condo.
Second time staying here and still love it. Great view. Great location (close enough to Bar Harbor without the craziness of Bar Harbor). Nice and quiet.
Our family of five really enjoyed our stay! You couldn't get a better view of the harbor, and the accommodations were perfect for use and our three kids.
This is a perfect place to stay near Bar harbor. Love the view! Quiet! Close to some of the best hiking! Nearby to Parsons ( a great fish and lobster market). And most importantly,..Amanda (the manager, is beyond great.....loved this place!!
The property was great for our visit. We had two young adults enjoy the upstairs and to sleep in while we had the downstairs master and the use of the deck for our early morning breakfasts. We enjoyed being in the Southwest Harbor. You can walk to town for dinner and shopping, in addition to getting the bus to the park and Bar Harbor.

Wonderful in Southwest Harbor
Beautifully maintained and situated property with a gorgeous view of the working harbor. All necessities provided. You have to have breakfast or lunch at Grumpys right around the corner

We love to hear when our guests enjoy Midships as much as we do! And we agree, Grumpy's is a must...great food created by a fantastic chef and his wife!
During our week stay we enjoyed the accomodations providing our every need. We especially loved the view of the harbor from every floor. It was the perfect refuge between hikes during rainy weather. It was close enough to shops for teen daughters to explore on their own and the hot tub was so rejuvenating.
Thank you for providing such a cozy beautiful backdrop for our family's wonderful memories!
Great place to stay while visiting Acadia and Bar Harbor
Nice condo with plenty of space and everything we needed for a lovely week. Beautiful view. We had a couple of minor issues. The property owner responded immediately to our messages and had the issues fixed quickly and professionally. Definitely recommend this property!

Great time!
We had a great time in Southwest Harbor. The Midships condo was very nice and comfortable. We enjoyed the hot tub one morning when the fog was so thick that we didn't want to venture out. The area was quiet and we enjoyed watching the harbor in the evening as the sun went down. We would definitely stay here again.
Thanks!

AWESOME vacation!!
We really enjoyed our stay at this property! The view was gorgeous and we loved just sitting on the deck watching the activities of the harbor. Kitchen was well stocked and we had everything we needed to cook and eat our lobster from the fishing trip booked out of Southwest Harbor. The only caution I might mention is the steps from upstairs bedroom to kitchen and then kitchen to master bedroom level were quite steep and may present an issue to those with knee problems. We had a great stay and look forward to booking again!
Response from VrboOwner on Mar 25, 2020
Happy you enjoyed the view from the deck! Thanks for the steps advice...we always ensure our friends and guests are aware they are steep so that everyone is comfortable and has the best possible stay!
Had a great time here - very well laid out, comfortable, impeccably clean (not a crumb in the pantry drawers which blew my mind). Bring your own kitchen knives if you’re particular, but otherwise it had everything we needed! So easy to store bikes in the master bedroom on the ground floor and on the porch area right outside the bedroom. Never used the hot tub, but it looked clean and welcoming! Wonderful view, easy parking, comfortable beds, considerate hosts. Definitely a great rental.

Lovely Vacation Site
The listing description was accurate and even more spacious than we had imagined. The unit was neat, clean, and nicely furnished. The view was superb from all three levels. We were vacationing with our grandchildren, ages 9, 11, and 13. Everyone enjoyed a great place to relax after hiking, fishing, and exploring Acadia. Jane was very welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed meals in Bar Harbor, Thurston's Lobster Pound, and most especially Beal's Lobster Pound in SW Harbor. Breakfast at Grumpy's, Jordon's, and Two Cats were the greatest. We highly recommend Midships and hope to return.

Exceeded expectations!
We expected it to be nice but we were overwhelmed. Everything we needed and more was already supplied for us. The decor was fabulous. The view was to die for from all 3 levels. It was very peaceful. The hot tub with view was very nice. The communication with Jane was very effective. The only thing that would have made it a little better is if we could have used the kayaks that were there. All in all, we loved it!!

Glad you loved your stay and the view! The family that live next door sometimes bring their kayaks down to the sea. Sorry we do not have kayaks for guests to use. I think there is a local company that you can rent them from when you come back and visit next year!

2 glorious weeks in a Harbor front condo.
We spent 2 weeks in this beautiful Harbor front condo and enjoyed the stunning views daily. The sunrises are the best. This condo has everything you need to feel at home. The spiral staircase is challenging to get to the top floor which is the main seating area with tv. But the views at this level are worth the climb. You are within a shirt walking distance to restaurants and shops. Southwest Harbor is our favorite Mt Desert Island destination. It truly is the quiet side if the island but only 9 mikes from bustling Bar Harbor.

Southwest Harbor is our favorite village, glad you think so too! Thanks for feed back and we plan to add a flat screen TV on the mid level for 2017.

Great views- uncomfortable stay
This property has a spectacular view, unfortunately it is also one of the most uncomfortable properties in which I have stayed. I am also a VRBO Platinum owner and I had standard expectations of this platinum property that were not met:
1) comfort
2) maintenance and cleanliness
3) furnishings
The property has some really nice enhancements like the kitchen appliances and cooking items, master bathroom is also nicely remodeled with big shower and slate floor, marble wall tiles, quality fixtures. Lovely art decorated many of the rooms.
The challenge is the low comfort and quality of furnishings, the small tight stair cases and maintenance of the property.
Beds are incredibly uncomfortable, we ended up buying memory foam toppers for the beds after our first sleepless night in the condo.
The stair cases are difficult to maneuver with luggage-the guests next door took their luggage around the outside of the condo, rather than trying to navigate the stairs. They also left a day early for the same issues we experienced.
Sitting area chairs are very uncomfortable, we opted to lay on the floor to watch tv on the tiny computer monitors that are used as TVs.
The entry floor restroom also housed the nice stackable washer and dryer, unfortunately the space is so small that to open the washer door you have to lift the toilet seat and to access the dryer you have to duck to open the door to load the clothes.
Lots of little unmatched furnishings including a plethora of occasional tables that were unnecessary and further crowded the small spaces.
My recommendations would be to purchase a comfortable seating arrangement like a sectional couch, get rid of all the non-built-in storage, replace the beds (king in master would have been nice) provide quality bedding, purchase medium sized tv’s and hang them to free up space and make it feel more open.
Give the place a little maintenance love, floors were not clean, cabinets were sticky from lots of use, fix the kitchen water dispenser that is loose, tighten the guest toilet that was loose, the microwave turntable no longer turns, enjoy the gift of the blender we purchased.
I know reviews are important to us owners, so this is challenging to write, with better furnishings this place could be great, the views are incredible and while small, the place has some remodeled features that are nice.
Until these items are addressed, I would pass on this property.
Hiked daily in Acadia park!
