About Greg Gonzales
I grew up in Simi Valley and bought this gem of a property which is about a mile away from my boyhood home. I am Ex-Air Force with a wife of 30 years and four children and one granddaughter. I myself am the coolest and funniest dad ever and my beautiful bride is a kind and sweet as they come. She's a wonderful cook and has catered many events on our property, many with over 100 people.
Greg Gonzales purchased this Guest House in 1996
Why Greg Gonzales chose Simi Valley
This property was a diamond in the rough that no one was interested in for 18 months until I showed up in early 1996. There was nothing green or beautiful on this property at that time, just a house and an unfinished pool house but in the years since we have remodeled just about every part of the property. I have since finished the guest house, built a playhouse, a gazebo, a barn and a greenhouse. There are paths and steps and trails meandering a throughout the property which is 100% accessible by foot and vehicle.
What makes this Guest House unique
We are just off the beaten path, close to all the conveniences one could ask for yet when you’re in your guest suite this is if you’re miles away from anywhere. There is an ever-so-slight breeze during the day, beautiful views in every direction with mature trees, thousands of feet of grass encompassed and 1 1/3 acres of beauty. A nap in a hammock or a game of corn hole and a bbq, enjoy the warm pool with it's waterslide and diving rock. With torches lighting the property you evenings are whatever you want them to be; an atmosphere dictated by you and whatever mood you're after; totally relaxing with the sound of waterfall or more upbeat with drinks and music. All days are good at Penny Lane

Great place to stay!
The Hosts Greg and Lori are extremely nice and pay great attention to detail! They went the extra mile to make our stay memorable and enjoyable!!
Nothing short of amazing
The stay with Greg and Lori was nothing short of amazing. The place was just as pictured with even more little treasures than expected. Their communication and flexibility is top notch and they are very gracious host. The room is well appointed and the property is beautiful. We drove in from Vegas to visit family and Lori met us upon our, early, arrival to give us the lay of the land and introduce us to their dogs who came to check on us every morning which was a nice addition to our stay. If you are ever in Simi Valley and need a place this is the one, hands down. Greg and Lori are amazing people and their hospitality will add such value to your stay. We will be returning soon. Thank you folks for everything!!!
Wow that’s a great review! Thank you. I had no idea I was such a great guy. I knew my wife was cool though.
Well Adam and his lovely bride were a great joy to host. They were very appreciative of our place and our efforts. It turns out we have a lot in common. I always enjoy good conversation with good people and this was no exception.
They were upbeat and just downright cool people. Since they have family nearby I hope they make this their primary place to stay.
In the Hills of Simi Valley
Greg and Laurie are wonderful hosts and their guest/pool house is
cute, cozy and fun. They are new to being hosts and are very
accommodating and great to work with. Their property is in close
proximity to many amenities in both Ventura and LA Counties, or no
matter whichever direction you might choose to explore.
However, I had a concern about privacy issues. The guest/pool house
also shares space with an office/music room and there is not a full
length solid wall that separates each space, just French doors with
curtains (the rental is a few steps higher than the other room). On
two occasions, one at night for a few hours I could see someone in the room, and then again, the next morning there was someone in that room. I should have called Greg and Laurie at the first occurrence, but it was late, I was tired, and I did try to call out to the person in the room but received no answer. So, I just got in bed where no one could see me. The next day there was someone else in the room but didn’t realize they were there (I was blow drying my hair) until they answered the ringing phone.
I spoke to Laurie about the situation when I checked out and feel
certain she would address it with Greg and whomever else might need
to know, and pre-cautions would be put in place to remedy the privacy
On personal note, if you need aid in walking or with some stairs, I
feel this property is hard to navigate.
I wish Greg and Laurie all the best in their new adventure, however
based on my personal experience the rating should be a 3, but I gave it a 4 because I feel once any kinks are worked out this will be a wonderful destination. Three previous renters, on Airbnb each gave it 5 stars!
Our guest suite is on several platforms and I was surprised to receive our first less than perfect review; particularly about privacy.
Accessibility: The listing has many photos of the suite from all angles including an aerial photo showing the lay of the land. There are several ways to approach the suite including a route without stairs, some with a few stairs and another with many stairs. It also clearly states the fact that it is a large property that is not handicap friendly.
Had the guest informed us of her handicap I surely would have recommended she find a more suitable place to stay.
Privacy: This complaint is very misleading. First and foremost there are 8 foot high French doors that span from wall to wall and are locked. There are curtains on both sides and the only way one could look into the suite is if someone in the suite opened the curtains FROM THE INSIDE.
Secondly, her statement, “So, I just got in bed where no one could see me” is very misleading and implies that someone can look in and spy on a guest. NOT TRUE! Again one would have to open things up from the inside to be seen.
Also, as I walked the Sue into her suite and was explaining various things I explained to her the other half of the pool house is my office and studio so if she hears someone in there it’s just me at my desk. I typically I avoid going in there when guests are here but when I do have the need to go in there, I am quiet and respectful of the guests presence. Sue is the first to notice or mention my being in there.
Though the guest suite is available for guests and I minimize any need to go into the other part of that building, my family and I continue to live on, occupy and utilize the rest of the property as one might imagine.
My apologies to our guest Sue. I regret Sue had a less than perfect experience at our home and will definitely attempt to be more clear in articulating the conditions involving the adjacent part of the building.
Letting people know one is handicapped is a pretty important thing to inform a host of. Perhaps taking a closer look at our listing and assessing the topography based on the many pictures that show the layout from every angle is a good idea also.
Be assured, our guests privacy, comfort and autonomy are first and foremost.
