About this property

Exclusive private mountain and lake vacation in the Cohutta wilderness

Stunning private mountain and private lake retreat nestled in the north GA mountains, surrounded by the Cohutta Wilderness Wildlife Management Area.
Just fully renovated, this lovely western style cabin boasts all the amenities and luxuries you would expect from the best resorts and properties, but also extremely private. This 4 bedroom, 3 full and 2 1/2 baths, home is nestled on a mountain overlooking a 7-acre private lake, mountain views and the sounds of the Mountain Town Creek rushing past your open doors and sprawling decks. Enjoy quiet sunsets on the lower flagstone patio and fire-pit area. Cook your meals on the Green Egg or large stainless steel grill at the outdoor kitchen area, just off the upper deck. Stroll down to the lake and enjoy the abundance of wildlife including the occasional bald eagle, or take one of the kayaks and a fishing pole where you can catch trout, bass, and brim.
If you are a nature lover or mountain bike enthusiast, the entire property (7-acres) is surrounded by the 100,000 acres Cohutta Wilderness Management Area. You can hike the Mountain Town Creek trail (about 7 miles) up to Doublehead Gap, the whole way following and crisscrossing Mountain Town Creek, which is full of native brook and rainbow trout. You may see black bear, wild turkey, deer, and many numerous bird species.
The home is located approximately 15-20 minutes from the cute and historic town of Ellijay, where you will find antique shops, restaurants, coffee shops, and other interesting destinations.

Chuck's spot in the wilderness is amazing!! So many adventures just out the door!
Chuck was an amazing host and even shared a golf cart and fishing tips and gear! And being a small world, we found out we had hometown connections! Rent and I promise you will not be disappointed!

Secluded and spacious cabin for family get together was great!
Cabin was secluded yet easy to get to. Lots of room for six adults and 3 children. Large, well stocked kitchen and large dining table for family meals. Three bedrooms with full bathrooms and two powder rooms. Outdoor area with firepit and flagstone patio were enjoyed by all!

EXTREME MISREPRESENTATION-AWFUL EXPERIENCE
For over 5 years, we rent from VRBO 2 times a year and both times we go to the mountains. Either North Carolina or Georgia. This was BY FAR the WORST experience. Let me use the host's description and explain. "Just fully renovated" and "Cabin boasts all of the amenities and luxuries you would expect from the best resorts" But this is what you get: There was OPEN food in the refrigerator, freezer and cabinets. A red rubber band holding the kitchen faucet together; NO ELECTRICITY in one of the bedrooms; master shower faucet doesn't function properly (his handyman had to come us show us the "trick" to get the proper water temperature); spackling in over a dozen areas on the walls; no screens on the windows, keeping us from enjoying the cool mountain air; only one toilet paper holder in five bathrooms; refrigerator ice maker doesn't work; microwave didn't work; no hair dryer; no iron/ironing board; and one wine glass. Sheets in the master were cheap polyester and the towels are all mismatched. No bathroom floor mats. The pot holders in the kitchen had DRIED FOOD stuck on them. "Mountain views and the sounds of the Mountain Town Creek rushing past your open doors". You cannot see mountains at all because it sits in the valley and the trees are dense. There are no sounds of the town creek unless you hike to the dam above the lake. And if you open your doors, bugs and critters come in. Again, there are no screens on the windows at all so you can't hear any part of nature unless you sit outside. Which, when we arrived the deck and furniture was covered in pollen. I washed the deck and furniture down myself. "Stroll down to the lake."...His property has lake frontage, but you cannot access the lake from his property. I don't know what he considers a "stroll" but it is just shy of 500 YARDS (we mapped it) and it's a HIKE down the steep gravel driveway, then to a steep gravel road, across a dam (which is where the nice photo of the lake was taken--so that is NOT your view from the property), onto some else's private property-basically trespassing. "take one of the kayaks and fishing pole". There was ONE kayak and it was in bad shape. He promised to have "two brand new kayaks" delivered within 2 days and that never happened. There is a canoe but no oars or life vests. We tried for 6 days to get solutions-- no avail and left 25 days early. This was by far the absolute worst experience we have ever had. He should ashamed.

Pefect getaway
This was a beautiful house and property for our family to get away. Remote destination with all the comforts of home. Chuck was a very attentive host and was available to answer all our questions. Our family will return again in the near future.

Perfectly secluded
This was a beautiful place to catch up with friends, have the young boys play inside and out, go hiking on and off trail, and have all the amenities available to have a very comfortable vacation. Thank you for letting us make your home our 'home away from home'. We even got snow the last night and had a beautiful winter wonderland when we woke up. :) You won't be disappointed staying here! Thank you Chuck!

About the host

Hosted by Chuck Glenn

Host profile image
Lifelong native to Atlanta, Georgia. Husband to my best friend for 30 years, and proud parent of 5 incredible kids.

Why they chose this property

If you have ever visited Cohutta Bear Retreat Cabin (CBR), then you know without a doubt that there is simply nothing else like it anywhere in North Georgia. Cohutta Bear Retreat Cabin sits inside a privately owned and gated (private access gate) tract of land that is surrounded on all sides by the Cohutta Wilderness WMA (approx. 100,000 acres). CBR overlooks a private and stocked 7 acre lake that is full of trout, bream & bass. CBR is perched on the side of a mountain and has stunning views of the Cohutta Mountain range, the private lake, and sits above the babbling and incredibly beautiful Mountain Town River. Every evening and morning sunrise, you can sit on the wrap around porches and enjoy world class views and nothing but the sounds of nature and calming noises of the river below.

What makes this property unique

Upscale, private, secluded, secure, safe, incredibly beautiful and one of a kind. And comes with all the modern amenities and expectations of your own home, but nestled in the middle of the Cohutta Wilderness.
