We were so pleased with the Cates Farm house. My friends and I passed this homeplace constantly while growing up in Mebane. We enjoyed our stay and loved the country atmosphere.
We were down for Family Weekend at a nearby university. The home was the perfect size for our multi-generational family of 8. It has a lot of charm. I wish we had more opportunity to enjoy the property, but we were on-campus for most of our visit. Make sure to tell your spouse explicitly to continue down the drive around the first house so as not to bother the host who lives on site!
Clean, spacious home on a quiet farm. Beautiful property set back off the main road but close to shopping center. It’s our family’s second visit there and we’d definitely go back!

We enjoyed the location. The convenience of having three full bathrooms, was a huge selling point for us! Having an outdoor seating area, as well as a screened in porch was great! We would definitely stay here again!

Thank you so much for your kind words. You all were great guests
The home was everything we anticipated and more. Immaculate, comfortable and welcoming. Peaceful setting with easy access to Mebane and other area towns. We will very much look forward to staying here again when we are in the area.
We had lots of room for 3 families including a separate room for a baby. Great outside area and screened in porch. Beautiful views of the farm and Angus cows and babies.

Thank you for taking time to do that. We were happy to have you here
The property is beautiful, serene, and feels remote, yet the grocery store is less than a mile away. It was wonderful for us to all have our own rooms. The beds were very comfortable and clean. We'll be back!
We enjoyed our stay in this lovely remodeled and extended farmhouse. Both the remodel and add-on were done well. The furniture is also well done. Good quality and placement. I wish we had been there in warmer weather to enjoy the outdoors. We would definitely stay here again.

Thank you so much for your kind words. Love to have you back.
The house is spotless, the grounds pastoral. There was plenty of elbow room to make this the perfect landing spot for our entire family to come together.
The home was perfect for my daughter’s graduation from Elon. It is about 25 minutes from campus and perfect for multiple people to stay. The beds are comfortable and bathrooms clean. Mornings were spent looking out the window at the cows, chickens and cats. Beautiful and relaxing.
We stayed here with our family while visiting for family weekend at Elon University. Spacious and comfortable, and such a beautiful setting! The farm is picturesque, especially the adorable new calves. So quiet and peaceful, you can't help but but get a great night's sleep! Thank you, we will certainly return when visiting Elon in the future.

Girls weekend, party of 8.
House is located behind owners house on property. Plenty of bedrooms, furnished wonderful and had everything you would need to cook. Marsha the owner told us it use to be an old corn crib which she converted in this wonderful house. Will definitely be renting it again when back in the area
I could not asked for anything better. The house had everything we needed and Marsha was a most gracious host. Country setting and quiet. Thanks for sharing your home.

You gentlemen were the perfect guests. Happy to be of service to you.
Stayed at this house w/ my family over the Thanksgiving wknd. I liked how there were 5 bedrooms to accommodate 7 adults. The king beds were very comfortable. 1 double bed was very squeaky and a 2nd was very firm.
The host was quick to respond to texting.
My family (including four couples and a toddler) visited the Mebane area for a wedding and decided to rent a house rather than coordinate a hotel. I'm so glad we picked this house! The property and home are beautiful, and the layout was perfect for our situation. My favorite aspect was the numerous bathrooms so there was no stress when we realized we were running late for the wedding and everyone had to get dressed at once!
Waking up to rolling fields through a giant picture window was really special. What a wonderful place!

So glad you enjoyed yourself. Delighted to have had you come.
The farm house is 5 stars all the way. It's quiet but close to everything. We enjoyed the screened in porch and the sitting areas outside with family and a few local friends. The house is clean, spacious, well equipped and the hosts were very friendly and responsive. Grocery stores, restaurants, home improvement stores are within minutes and Durham is only a 30 minute drive. You'll hear the birds singing in the morning and it's an extra bonus to watch the farm animals go about their daily routines.

Thank you so much for your kind words. So glad you found it restful and enjoyable. It was a pleasure being of service to you.
This is one of the nicest and peaceful properties we have had the pleasure to rent on VRBO (and that other website). The farmhouse is so comfortable, with lots of space to spread out. The screen porch overlooks the fields and grazing animals and is a great place to relax. A large patio was perfect for grilling and relaxing. The kitchen is well stocked. The sheets and linens are comfortable and the home is spotlessly clean. We came to celebrate a college graduation but will return simply to enjoy this magical property.

Always a blessing to have wonderful folks like you. Thank you so much for your kind words. Look forward to seeing you again.
This place is made for those that want to relax and get away from stress. The house itself is outstanding! Clean, up to date, spacious and comfortable. The location though is what makes is special. A farm (open space )close enough to Durham and Chapel Hill, and the RDU airport, but far enough out to make you feel isolated. Mebane, NC is a hidden gem. Great food and people.
I wouldn’t hesitate to book this special place again.
Thank you Marsha for making this available.

About the host
Your host
This farm was purchases by my great-grandparents in 1905 and was originally 1800 acres. It begin a pickle industry from the cucumbers grown here. I have managed to secure 160 with the original homesite, which was built in 1798, restored the structures, and put the land in land conservancy so it cannot be developed in the future. We love this beautiful property and want to share it with others to enjoy its serenity and beauty.
Why they chose this property
You can rent a house anywhere, but you cannot replicate this experience of being on a historic farm in a unique house that preserved the past but modernized everything for modern living. Enjoy the manicured grounds, with lush landscaping, take a walk down to the creek, and explore. The past and the present all in one. Family farms are rapidly disappearing in NC due to development, so enjoy this will last vestige of farming.
What makes this property unique
Unprecedented natural beauty unlike what we usually see on a working farm. The cows are mellow and the chickens love you enough to leave you eggs. I promise you will see your blood pressure lower.
