About Deb and Ed Mackiewicz
We are beach lovers - in the truest sense! Over thirty years ago, we met on a California beach while helping a lost child and we've been married and beachcombing around the world ever since - in between raising two incredible children and our careers. Our parents live just down the road and we split our time between Lido Key and our home in Ridgefield, CT. We are excited about our two new family beach homes, which we have named Lido Pelican Cottage and Lido Flamingo Cottage. We are looking forward to sharing them with you!

Why Deb and Ed Mackiewicz chose Lido Key
We've been looking for the perfect beach and community to plant our umbrellas. Lido Key (and Sarasota), Florida has just the right combination of incredible beaches and sunsets, terrific dining, shopping and entertainment, and an impressive cultural community with fine arts, opera, ballet, museums and gardens. Lido Flamingo Cottage is just the right size for small gatherings with so much to do within walking distance of the home. This is the perfect vacation spot for the family and friends with multiple and diverse interests! Expertly outfitted for your comfort, you can grab the beach buggy, load up the chairs, toys and towels and walk down the sand dune path to the beach, OR you can stroll to St Armands Circle, where you can shop, grab a burger or enjoy fine French, Columbian, Asian Fusion or fresh seafood dinner , get ice cream, listen to live music, dance under the stars and enjoy the seasonal festivals that come to the Circle OR you can grab one of the three bicycles and ride around Lido Key, Longboat Key, or even cross the bridge to Sarasota. You can also ride to the other side of Lido Key, where you can rent kayaks and take a guided tour through the mangroves, spotting manatees, dolphins, rays and lots of fish and crabs that live in the bay. Jet skiing rental is also available close by. Close by is the world renown Mote Aquarium (also on Lido Key!), downtown Sarasota (which has blocks and blocks of dining, shopping, live music, outdoor dancing, etc.), and Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. Of course there is also the Ringling Museum, the world ranked Ringling school of art and design. Several playhouses, opera house, ballet company, and impressive shows at the Van Wetzel! Please come enjoy our special paradise by the sea. We hope you'll want to come again and again!
What makes this House unique
Completely renovated and remodeled in 2018, this sweet cottage is a slice of "Old Florida". Originally built in 1954, the bedrooms are panelled in original and restored Florida cypress - which naturally repels insects and termites. The closets are lined with cedar to repel the moths. The bathroom tiles, lovingly restored, reflect the bright, Florida colors (pink and yellow) characteristic of the period of simple, functional and playful times at the beach. During the renovation, the carpeting was removed and the original terraza floor, that was very popular when it was built, was in perfect condition - waiting for guests to come in from the beach with sand between their toes. New appliances and breakfast bar, as well as a full-size refrigerator, dishwasher and antique serving bureau combine the best of old and new. The backyard has a six person patio table and chairs, with a shady large umbrella that is easy to raise and lower. We've also included a propane powered BBQ AND a firepit with 4 chairs to sit back, enjoy the warmth and scan the stars. We provide the propane! It even has an outside shower, where folks shower off their sandy feet and rinse themselves from the salt and sand... Come feel the loving embrace of this delightful Florida cottage by the sea! Time will melt into beach time - where the only worries are where to play and where/when/what to eat!

Old Florida charm at its finest!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Flamingo Cottage. It was a great location allowing us to walk or ride our bikes, while keeping the car in the carport. The beach is a short walk from the cottage and was beautiful as always. The owners did a great job stocking the cottage with almost anything you could need for a week at the beach. Deb was readily available and willing to help at anytime. Whenever we visit Lido Key, the Flamingo Cottage is where we will be staying from now on!
So glad you enjoyed our beach cottage and all the wonderful things to do within walking distance! You were wonderful guests and we’re thrilled Flamingo Cottage has earned your loyalty! Come back soon! Deb and Ed Mackiewicz
The beauty of Flamingo Cottage is that you can enjoy a secluded beach retreat and/or dip your toes into the vibrant St Armands Circle, only 2 blocks away, where there is dining options ranging from fine to delis, high end designer shops as well as T-shirt and flip flop shops, ice cream and fudge parlors, indoor/outdoor cafes, full service spas, tour booking companies and more.
For those with a cultural bent, Sarasota (only a 5 minute car/bus ride) has world class museums, ballet, opera, and symphony companies as well as great entertainment options such as comedy clubs, live music venues, and a wide variety of cuisine options. Advance reservations/tickets are recommended as this area is teeming with artists and art aficionados! (Fun Fact: Sarasota was the winter home for the Ringling & Barnum & Bailey Circus and is the home of world class Ringling School of Art and Design)
And if you love Jazz, there is a club in St Armands, that does "live mic" jazz on Monday nights - local residents gather and sing/play - to be clear, most are retired professionals, so the experience is extraordinary!
If you love the outdoors, Lido Key has much to offer, from kayaking in the mangroves, walking through the North Lido Nature Preserve, sailing, golfing, Bay or Deep Sea Fishing, even basketball is nearby!
