About the Property
Historic Spanish villa converted to 8 Bedroom, 4.5 Baths villa (Sleeps 14)
Originally a shepherd's hut on a col in the mountains, a square pile of rock walls evolved into a majestic 3500 square foot finca (farmhouse) with wings on a col 250 meters above sea level.
Sometime over its history the stone hut became an olive press & grain mill for farmers far and wide. Yes, the surrounding pine forests were once terraced olive and almond orchards. Son Viguet, perfectly poised between two valley's, was the strategically located for farmer's to bring their harvest for pressing into olive oil & flour.
In 1973 the current owner and his parents found the ruin after it had been abandoned 50 years earlier during the Spanish Civil War. It took 10 years of pain staking restoration to restore Son Viguet to its current authentic splendour.
TODAY as you enter the gate, you are welcomed by a cactus garden, cascading bougainvilleas, climbing roses, oleander, lemon, fig & pomegranate trees, and the most spectacular vistas of the Mediterranean Sea, the Traumuntana mountains to the north and the Andratx Valley & Mediterranean Sea to the south.
INSIDE this authentically restored farmhouse are 8 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms and a fully equipped country kitchen with modern appliances perfect for group cooking (or caterers which can be arranged). Both the living & dining rooms serve as the center of the home and both rooms have open wood fireplaces supplied by ample wood fuel. And of course there is wi-fi internet access throughout, Flat Screen with Apple TV device to watch movies, and a library of English books to choose from. The owner is a prolific reader of classics and contemporary literature.
The formal dining (also the front entrance hall) & living rooms and kitchen are divided by 3-foot thick walls with arched passage ways between all three principle rooms.
THE KITCHEN (formerly a grain mill) has vaulted beamed ceilings & still has the original beams. You'll love the view of the Traumuntana Mountain range and the walk out to a back terrace complete with a small garden and BBQ. The kitchen is fully equipped to accommodate large groups with big gas stove & oven, dishwasher, two large fridges, coffee machines, blender, toaster and microwave. There are also two clothes washing machines.
BEDROOMS AND BATHS: In the main house block there are 5 bedrooms - 4 of which are on the second floor serviced by 2 bathrooms: a 3-piece bathroom and a separate powder room. Two of the upper bedrooms (one with a king the other a queen bed) face south with spectacular vistas of the Med and two face north towards the mountains. The 5th bedroom (with queen bed) is on the ground floor with a walk-out to the terrace and the four piece bathroom (ideal for the elderly).
The 6th bedroom with a King bed, is a self contained apartment yet structurally connected to the main house but is only accessible from the pool terrace. This pool apartment, has its own 3-piece bathroom and kitchenette and enjoys spectacular views to the south.
The Olive Press Wing, is a magnificent (7th) bedroom (the largest) suite with King size bed, air conditioning and its own 4-piece bathroom ensuite, fireplace and commanding view of the valley below. It also has its own private living / dining room and a small bedroom for baby, child or elderly needing attention.
DINING OPTIONS; Choose from one of 5 enchanting dining experiences on the four outside terraces of this remarkable property or the two interior dining areas (the kitchen and formal dining room). A local chef, can also delight you with his international culinary treats, by shopping, cooking and cleaning up after each meal that you must book in advance. BBQ nights are held on the northwest exposed terrace off the kitchen.
The gardens of this mountain retreat are the owners constant source of pride. The pool is flanked by bougainvilleas, hibiscus plants and an almond grove. Sitting by the pool with the distant sound of the sheep bells as they climb the amphitheatre of hills is sublime. Private hiking trails are accessible right off the pool terrace into the National parkland that surround this home. This tranquil location is rare treat of complete privacy where clothes are optional.
THE VILLAGE below.
The nearest village is a 4 km walk down country lane or by the main road. The plaza is the center of this ancient Moorish town with a quaint, fully equipped convenient store, a bank, post office, natural and traditional pharmacy, bakery, and several wonderful restaurants and cafes, and a magnificent church. The cafes at the plaza are open from the early morning until 1 or 2 or 3 at night (depending on how much fun you are having - the owners tend to stay open as long as you are ordering.
THE TOWN OF ANDRATX & PUERTO
Just 7 kms away in the Puerto you can hob nob with rich and famous of Europe. Puerto Andratx is one of the King and Queen of Spain's favorite dining experiences. They drop anchor in the fishing port or tie up on the quai and choose from about 50 remarkable restaurants. In fact boaters and residents of Palma 30 kms away often make the trip to Puerto just for the remarkable dining experiences and exquisite atmosphere. And Sailors from all over the world make Puerto their destination and often their permanent mooring.
BEACHES: From this property you are only 15 to 20 minutes drive from a huge variety of beaches. Some are huge sprawling beaches with sun umbrellas and concessions stands, others are quiet little pebble beaches only known by the locals. Our English property managers, knows every nook and cranny of this island.
ROAD CYCLING & MOUNTAIN BIKING
The roads and trails surrounding this 3-acre property are the nirvana of road cyclists and mountain bikers all across Europe and North America. Each February all the Pro cycling road teams come to Mallorca to train on the mountain cols and flat roads of Mallorca and all are at the door step of this unique property. So bring your team or your family! The owner is a keen cyclist and hiker himself and is familiar with every col climb and screaming decent on the island.
The property managers are also superb cooks who will shop, cook and clean up for your group, but they are so popular you need to book them early.
Full carbon Bicycles can also be rented in Paguera only 10 kilometres away at Rad-international.de Bicycles must be booked in advance to ensure availability.

This Property is Ideally Located for its Access to the Best Cycling (Where the Pros Train All Winter), Hiking, Golfing, Dining, Shopping, Diving and Sailing in Europe.
Looking north from the pool terrace of this property it is possible to see the highest mountain, Puig de Galatzo, in the southwest corner of the island. It reaches 1,027 meters and its very accessible with a little effort. My mother climbed it in her 70s and I have seen 10 year old girls summit without whinning. Pack a lunch and bring lots of water if its a hot day. Each person should carry a litre and a half of water. From the summit you can see on a clear day at least the half island while having lunch. In the town of S'Arraco Robin Saker is a Hiking guide who can escort you all day and give you remarkable history of the island as he has lived on the island all his life.
Or you can rent a yacht in the Puerto Andratx hire a skipper, and head up the spectacular coast line with 400 meter drops into the ocean. There are many fishing village ports to explore all up the coast where the snorkeling and bottle diving is sensational. You will also discover secluded beaches only accessible by boat. In the town of Sant Elm there is a very good bottle diving shop which will rent you everything you need or give you lessons and take you on a tour of the best places to dive. In the Port of Andratx you can also rent kayaks and explore the coastline much of which is inaccessible by car.
The whole island of Mallorca is a playground for everybody from serious adventure enthusiasts to luxury comfort seekers. It has the best shopping and dining experiences that rival Paris, Rome and Barcelona as well as Spas, Casinos, the best Clubs in Europe in Palma that close at about 6.30 am. All of which is only a 35 minute drive away. Or from the farmhouse you can set out and discover the island on high performance super light bicycles that can be rented nearby. Mallorca has the best cycling terrain in Europe which is why all the pros of northern Europe come to Mallorca to train from January to March in our mild weather.

After going to the island for more 40 years in summer, spring winter and fall, I still have so much to discover about Mallorca. I feel like I have only scratched surface, partly because life in our mountain top farmhouse is so peaceful and idyllic you won't want to leave.
Year Purchased: 1973
About the owner: My Canadian parents bought this farmhouse as a retirement home in 1973 when I was a 15 year old boy and we began renovation every summer that lasted 10 years. My father was a Canadian diplomat with a dream to retire in the Mediterrean. Son Viguet was a complete ruin that was abandoned during the Spanish Civil War in 1939. They were a perfect match for each other. My father passed away peacefully in his heaven on earth in 2004 and my mother continued living there alone until she was 80 years old. In 2010 she asked me to take over management of Son Viguet while she returned to Canada to live near my home where she is today. Since 2010 Son Viguet has undergone another extensive modernization to bring everything up to today's standards. Hence Son Viguet has been my "home" for more than 40 years. I now share with my wife, Lucie and our two adult daughters Pascale & Fabienne. We love sharing this magnificent property with friends and family from all over the world. Ordinary working people like us don't usually own such spectacular properties such as Son Viguet. We thank you for being our friends and helping us hang on to my parents dream home which is now our dream home. Today I have extended family all over the world and we call Mallorca our home base for family reunions.
Why the Owner Chose Andratx, Balearic Islands, Spain:
My Parents fell in love with the island of Mallorca in the early 70s. It was their retirement home, hence my home. In 1997 I also fell in love with the cycling, hiking & sailing that Mallorca has to offer and all my Canadian friends want to visit. So now it is used for reunions with family, friends & winter training camps for cyclists. We have also had several yoga retreats come together on the mountain, where we can spoil guests with spa treatments.

Located in the foothills of Tramuntana mountain, this property has direct access to the best hiking trails on the island and the best cycling roads in Europe. Only 6 kms away there is a superb 18-hole golf course as well as a tennis club. Professional cycling teams from all over the world spend three months of the winter training on the roads that pass our driveway. And with the beaches so close by I use the whole island as a training ground for Ironman triathlon competitions. But of course the Andratx valley has so much more to enjoy, such as the finest vineyard on the island very close by and remarkable restaurants in the nearby villages of Es Capedella and Calvia. And with Palma only 25 minutes away by car, the shopping and dining experiences are a bonanza.
