The additional apartment sleeps 4 people by using the full sized sofa bed and is just downstairs and accessed inside the foyer in this Private Home that is Closest to the St. George FREE FERRY! Ask about adding another apartment on the top floor that has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Have a Wonderful Waterfront Connection to the NYC skyline, see Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens along with the George Washington Bridge and at its' most spectacular, the entire Hudson Harbor, all just steps away. It is just 10 minute walk to the free commuter ferry. This comfortable home has a great vantage point as it is a smooth 20 minutes FREE ride to Manhattan via the Staten Island Ferry while the house is in a SAFE and quiet location, just 2 blocks to the 120 Police Precinct. The Esplanade in front of the Victorian home follows the waterfront will soon have the tallest Ferris Wheel in the USA. There will be parks and a boardwalk above the tides. Or go see the Staten Island Yankees (a minor league) play at the beautiful new stadium, only a block away from the house.
Everything is close in Historic St. George, museums, restaurants and small grocery stores that have good selections of staples, beer and organic foods. If the desire is to explore the neighborhood and view all the historic homes and public buildings or ride over to New York City see the sights, all is quite easy even with small children. On the other side near the NYC dock is the ticket booth to the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island or the tour buses. If you want to walk around after docking you will be in the old Historic district of Manhattan and just a few short blocks from the Financial District of Wall Street.
The General Grant style house has been renovated with a new and fully equipped kitchen. For summer there is a new 18,000 BTU air conditioner and a lovely private Garden Patio with table and chairs. For winter there is a working wood burning fireplace and steam heat. Enjoy a master bedroom with lovely romantic decor and wood floors, high ceilings with ceiling fans throughout and a full bathroom with a shower/bathtub. There is a shared foyer with the owner but the unit has it's own locking front door and is totally private. No car is necessary and there is public transportation from all three airports in New York and from Newark in NJ. If a parking space is needed the street has no restrictions and is right in front of the home entrance. Wifi is included along with cable TV on a 32' flat LED screen.

About Robin Levin
My husband Stanley and I on the Esplanade down in front of the house. The area is scenic with all of New York Harbor within view of the house. Both commercial and pleasure boats are constantly traveling back and forth to loading docks or on their way out to sea.

Why Robin Levin chose St. George
The house is quaint and inviting with great views, one can never be bored. A great plus is the close proximity of the Staten Island Ferry that runs 24/7 - 365, only a 10 minute walk, a 20 minute ride and then you are in Manhattan. Coming home it is cool in summer as the doors are wide open and you can watch the sun setting with the Statue of Liberty back lit. In winter the passenger lounges are heated and you can read, relax or compare notes on your days adventures. The house is historically significant as the first owner was the son of the preserved Stevenson's General Store in Historic Richmond Town. In 1870's coming to the North Shore was a relief with the breezes blowing off the Hudson River and so the area became a resort with homes for the very wealthy. This two family home provided a place for me to live and raise my two children. Now I rent the lower part of the house, which is a complete apartment in itself with sliding patio doors out onto a private patio and garden.
What makes this House unique
It is so convenient to all public transportation. The neighborhood is safe and it is a relatively quiet one for New York City. The house is private, clean and comfortable with antiques in every room but the kitchen is updated and there are modern conveniences such as air conditioners and a dish washer so you don't need to live in the last century on your vacation.

Older house near Staten Island ferry
The house (or two apartments) were old and quite charming. They are well equipped. There were nine of us and we fitted in well enough given the size of the party. The outdoor patio area and the front deck were great. I imagine these are rare in New York. The house served as a comfortable base from which to explore the city, walk to grocery stores and restaurants.
However, we did experience some problems. the dishwasher did not work and the dining table's leg failed. The house was a 10 minute walk to the ferry through building works and some chaotic building works.
I should add that the area in which the house it situated is not a good one. I image that the area was quite a nice one once. The views of Manhattan, sadly, are gone and Robyn's house is the only one left on the block. This made parking possible at times but we did not feel comfortable walking about in the evening.
We found the lack of laundering facilities an inconvenience. The nearest laundromat, Family Laundromat, was half a mile away. I carried the washing there on the first wash day but later used a taxi.
We enjoyed our stay but the laundry issue was, for me at least, the biggest drawback.
Nice folks, but:
The dishwasher does work but because it is a portable you have to plug it in and attach the hose to the faucet, all instructions are in the kitchen on a side counter. As to the table leg, we found a screw had been sheared off and that loosened the leg, mishaps that can't be avoided in a almost 80 year old antique. We didn't charge the guest even though he had a number of young kids. And I told them about a laundry, La Salsa that is only a 5 minute walk on the way to the ferry where you can drop off your things and they will wash, dry and fold them for a very reasonable price, then just pick them up on the way home. Then, walking home after dark? I do it all the time and I am a woman. It is a very safe neighborhood with the police station just a block and a half away, on the way to/from the ferry. These folks are not used to the city and don't know a bad neighborhood from a safe one. Maybe their biggest problem was communication?
An exceptional place to stay!
We had the pleasure of staying here for a week in December 2015. At first we were not sure about staying on Staten Island but reading the reviews about Robins Nest helped us to decide to give it a go. We are sure glad we did. The accomodation is very close to the ferry as stated and we found the ferry ride lovely and relaxing at the end of each day, and especially enjoyed getting away from the crowds. We caught the bus to Staten Island mall which was easy (just across the road) and the mall offered everything NYC did in terms of purchases with less crowds. We are from Australia and were able to pick up some bargains that are very expensive at home. The apartment was beautifully furnished and lovely and warm, with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. There is a laundromat and supermarket in easy walking distance. We will be back to NY and would not consider staying anywhere else. Thanks so much Robin!
Great home base for NewYork City
My family (3 adults, 1 teen and a dog) had a wonderful time at Robin’s place. The apartment is roomy and well provisioned, especially the kitchen, for a short or extended stay. The location is a brief and safe walk to the ferry terminal- literally minutes and then aboard the free ferry that runs all night to downtown Manhattan- it really couldn’t be easier. Cafés and a farmers market are close by. If you want some green space there is the historic Alice Austin House and the Chinese scholar’s and botanical gardens at Snug Harbor. It makes for a great home base for activities on Staten Island and Manhattan.
Robin is a great help- there when you need help, but very conscientious of your privacy. She provided great communication leading up to our stay and was an enormous help while we shared her home. I cannot recommend Robin’s Nest highly enough- you’ll be close to all that is great about NYC, but still have the creature comforts of home.
Great appartment, and great access to Manhattan!
Family of 5, boys ages 7, 10 and 13, stayed 4 nights in August of 2014. The appartment is cozy, comfortable and well decorated/furnished. The owners have obviously thought of many small details to make you feel right at home. Its also surprisingly quiet. Access to Manhattan via ferry is easy, quick, painless and breathtaking, even the 3rd round trip! The only drawback is the neighborhood itself, you would think with this view and this access to downtown this area would be revitalized...its not so bad, just not what I expected. I guess this area is still a well kept secret!
Ps for baseball fans, a minor league game at the stadium next door is quite enjoyable as well!
Thank you Guests for the nice review, but Ah the neighborhood....I guess they haven't heard that by 2016 we will have a high end outlet shopping mall right next to the free ferry terminal plus the New York Ferris Wheel, all 625 feet of it. It will be one of the biggest in the world. That will bring, finally, new development and most likely a lot more noise, sadly.
First visit to NYC & with kids
Very happy with the stay at Robin's rental. Robin was a pleasure to rent from. Welcomed us warmly...and then gave us complete privacy. Never even heard them upstairs. The home itself--very much like staying at your aunts home. We rented the first floor-- a 2 bedroom unit of a large 3 story home for 6 nights. 2 adults and 2 kids (ages 10 &12). Very quiet place...so much better than a hotel for a light sleeper! Charming old fashioned home with high ceilings and a nice mix of modern (wifi, flat screen, updated kitchen, new comfy sofa, a/c) and traditional or antique furnishings. Everything was very clean and good working order. Kitchen well stocked beyond the bare bones usually found in vacation rental kitchens. Although I did not locate a cookie sheet, betting Robin would have provided one if I had asked. New mattresses the day we arrived which we found very comfortable, but are firm. If you prefer squishy beds, pack a topper. Queen bedroom spacious. Kids bedroom was super tiny but fine for 2 kids. They liked the twin trundle and preferred the 2 twins to sharing a hotel bed. Only thing we lacked was a 2nd bathroom, but no different than most hotel rooms. Loved having full kitchen/dining/living room and *free* parking in front of the house all week. Never an issue with parking. New key foods supermarket nearby...but you must drive. Smaller convenience stores nearby (walkable) but we preferred the key foods supermarket. Neighborhood walk from the house to the ferry takes 5 - 10 minutes & always felt safe. Ferry is super convenient, free, and runs every 20-30 minutes. Never waited longer than 10 minutes. About a 20 minute ferry ride. Always able to get a seat, and gorgeous views from the ferry. First time taking the ferry over we found the subway station just outside the ferry terminal bought our 7 day subway passes...and we were off. We explored most of lower and mid manhattan and brooklyn from the rental. Highly recommend seeing a staten island Yankees game while here. Wish we had more days to explore staten island itself, and the other bouroughs. Next trip!! We would rent here again, and if the kids ask for another NYC vacation we will try to rent from Robin again. Next time, we may opt to rent the small downstairs apartment too to give the kids a bit more space and gain a 2nd bathroom. Nearly perfect! Kids had a fabulous and memorable NYC trip. Thank you Robin - we had a very enjoyable stay.
The Queen bed in the Master bedroom now has a "squishy" topper and I will supply a baking sheet, no one ever asked before.

We stayed two-and-a-half months in this property and were astounded every day by the spectacular views of the ships, water, and Manhattan. There was plenty of comfortable space for us and Robin and Stanley were lovely hosts. It's an especially great location for budget travelers.
CONVENIENT! There is no private home closer to New York City then here in Historic St. George where all transportation begins, with the 24/7 free ferry ride to lower Manhattan. Located right on the Hudson Harbor with unobstructed views of the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge and the famous New York City skyline. There are many wonderful things to experience; Staten Island Yankees baseball park, historic buildings, restaurants, the Staten Island Museum, botanical and Chinese gardens, shops, restaurants and a minor league ball park are all within walking distance. We even have our own Staten Island Shopping Mall with something for everyone. Or just walk along the Esplanade and enjoy the Harbor.

Tax is X.08875 on rent and housecleaning combined. Out-cleaning is $180.00 and preformed after your departure. If staying longer than 11 nights then we require a mid-stay housecleaning at $85.00 per event. We also have a 'room fee' tax of $1.50 per night ($10.50 per week) that will be added as an edit.
