Casa Gallo is a traditional colonial home 4.5 blocks from the Central Park, in a quiet area of large colonial homes. This 5,330 square foot house (8,500 sq. ft. including gardens), plus a 4500 square foot connecting Annex available at an additional cost, have all been restored and modernized to serve as a delightful vacation rental home. With the highest possible rating scores for 14 reviews Casa Gallo is the number one rental in Granada.

Casa Gallo is managed by Granada Property Services (GPS), the premier property management organization of Granada.

There are three bedrooms in the main home (including a 20' x 20' master bedroom with 15' ceilings), 3 bathrooms, dining area, kitchen, bar, a large living room, and a TV room, all fronting the large interior courtyard with its beautiful palm trees and garden open to the sky. A beautiful pool, gazebo with table and chairs, and a fountain complete this central area.

The original connecting Annex has recently been lovingly restored to provide two additional queen-bedded, air-conditioned bedrooms with private baths available at an additional cost to those renting the main house who need more than 3 bedrooms. The Annex can also be rented separately from Casa Gallo or bith can be rented together for large families.

There are two distinct seating areas along the edge of the interior courtyard in addition to the dining area, kitchen, bar, and gazebo seating. The home is furnished in colonial style, with antiques and replicas. Stairs in the rear of the courtyard lead to a second level balcony with panoramic views of Granada rooftops and Mombacho Volcano. A beautiful secure private walled garden of 2,300 square feet with fruit trees, banana trees, bougainvillea and lawn is entered through a large covered patio from a secure door at the rear of this balcony.

All bedrooms have bathrooms with hot water showers, air conditioners with remote controls, and ceiling fans. Two bedrooms have queen beds and cable TV, the third has twin beds. (Additional extra-cost queen-bedded rooms are available in the Annex, please inquire.) There is a laundry room with washer & dryer, and a garage for off-street parking

A Movistar cellular phone is available for guests' use--minutes may be purchased at the Movistar office Across the street. A broadband internet connection with WI-FI is installed that also allows you to use SKYPE on your laptop to make long-distance calls. For those who know how set up a VPN connection NetFlix can be streamed to laptops and iPads. A safe box is available in the Master Bedroom for guests' use; the special key requires a deposit that is 100% refundable when it is returned.

For transportation, tours and tourguide, and airport transfers just email the owner for links to the best contacts and the driver he always uses.

Casa Gallo has an automatic standby water system of 1500 liters, and two battery-backed standby electrical systems that provide essential 110 volt power for much of the house in the event of the occasional water and power outages that make life in Granada so interesting.

Standard rental rates are $200 per night, $1300 per week, and $4000 per month. High season rates are shown in RATES section. Casa Gallo sleeps a maximum of 6 including children--sorry, no cribs or cots available. (Extra queen-bedded bedrooms are available in the Annex at an additional cost--please inquire.) All rentals are charged a $20/day flat utility rate that is less than the average daily electricity cost for Casa Gallo--we make up the difference. There is a refundable $100 damage deposit. A 3-day minimum stay is required outside of High Season and a 25% deposit will hold the reservation until one month prior to occupancy when balance is due. No pets. Long-term rentals available by arrangement with the owner--please inquire.

Included in every rental at no charge is a welcome offering of a pound of our favorite coffee and a 6-pack of our favorite beer.

Guests will receive house keys and a cellular phone on arrival.

Payment of deposits and balances can be made via an invoice sent by the owner at your request. No checks please.

Richard is a retired physician and Trudy a retired administrator and an author of a Nicaraguan cookbook and a book on Medical Spanish. They are based in Chicago and spend the summers in Montana and the winters in Granada.

Trudy was born and raised in Granada until her teens, when she moved to the U.S. She and Richard have visited Granada often over the years and were enormously pleased to find a beautiful old colonial home available not far from Trudy's old neighborhood.

What makes this villa unique

Managed by the highly professional Granada Property Services (GPS); traditional take-out dishes (nacatamales, vigoron, fritanga) available only a block or two away; morning coffee on the balcony overlooking Granada and Volcan Mombacho; Calle la Calzada, a pedestrian mall a few blocks away with great food, bars, and music; taking a horse-drawn coach to the outstanding traditional market about 6 blocks away, offering every imaginable regional specialty and numerous small eating-places for sampling a variety of home-made dishes; two fully-stocked modern American-owned supermarkets only 3-4 blocks away.

Attention Bird-Lovers! Both gardens of Casa Gallo--and especially the giant tamarind tree in the secret Garden--are home to many different kinds of birds. Many others can bee seen in the sky above. The following is a partial list of the ones I have positively identified: Blue-grey tanager, Tropical kingbird, Rufous-necked wren, Mexican jay (blue), Scissortail flycatcher, Great-tailed grackle (aka Zanate), Rough-winged Swallow, Turkey vulture (soaring only!), Mourning dove,and last but not least, the beautiful little Ruddy ground dove.

Beautiful space in a beautiful town

Our family of 6 stayed at Casa Gallo for a short get-away. It was everything the pictures and reviews seem. Beautiful space and wonderful host (Jose and Maria Elena). Clean and quiet. We loved the city of Granada, but had trouble even leaving the paradise of the house because it was so relaxing and tranquil just to spend time in the open air kitchen/dining room, the open court yard, the balcony with the view and the wonderful pool. This is a great space for our family of teenage and adult children, but I think it would also make a great space for a friends get-away, or families with small children. Other details: WIFI was strong and reliable, air conditioning is perfect for the Granada heat and sun, and you are in walking distance of many delicious cafes, restaurants and shopping in Granada (although it's great to have the option to cook in the large kitchen at the house--stock up on supplies a La Colonial or Union right down the road. We didn't have Maria Elena cook for us, but after 6+ months of living here in Nicaragua I can tell you that Nica food is delicious and I am sure Maria Elena makes some great Gallo Pinto--so I would recommend that, as well, even though we didn't take advantage of that option).

Highly recommend this home. Richard is great at getting back to guests about questions before the trip (thanks!) and Jose is a great source of information at the house and in town. Thanks for a wonderful stay. We will definitely be back.

A great week with friends

We spent 7 nights at Casa Gallo. We were visiting Granada for a friend’s wedding. The location was perfect, near the Park Central, restaurants, markets, groceries etc. The house was spacious and very clean. From the second floor, we had an amazing view on the volcano. Perfect spot to play cards around a cold beer :) The pool was very appreciated as Granada is very very hot during the day.

José and Marie-Elena, came every morning to take care of the house. They were very sweet and made sure we didn’t miss of anything. We kindly asked Marie-Elena to cook us some dinner at two occasions for a very reasonable price. The food was absolutely delicious!!!

Elegance and silence in the middle of the city

We recently spent six days at Casa Gallo and would happily have stayed longer. The house itself is just lovely - exactly what we were looking for. Our favorite time there was after dark, when we would turn on the nicely designed accent lighting all around the courtyard, have the fountain burbling and just enjoy the space. Mornings were perfect up on the balcony, looking out of the volcano and watching the bird life.

Jose and Maria-Elena were a delight. Without realizing it we visited during the Feast of the Immaculate Conception which, we quickly learned, is a BIG deal, accompanied by daily parades and fireworks, and Jose made sense of it all for us. We highly recommend taking advantage of Maria-Elena's excellent cooking - we had her prepare a few meals for us and will do so more often when we visit in future. After discussing what we would have, she and Jose worked out the cost of the groceries, we gave her the money and she shopped, cooked and brought the food over at the appointed time. Sometimes stayed and then cleaned up, sometimes came back to clean up later (a service we were not expecting!) At the end of our stay, she summarized what all the groceries had come to, added the cost for her to do the shopping and cooking, and totaled it all up for us. The food was excellent, the portions large and the cost very low.

The location of the house was perfect. Almost complete silence though in the middle of the city, it was a few minutes' walk to a variety of shops and ATMs and maybe 5-8 minutes to the central park, which became our favorite spot to eat and people-watch. Everyone we encountered was helpful and friendly, and very patient with our essentially non-existent Spanish.

In short, we loved Granada and Casa Gallo, and will absolutely be back.

Definitely a wonderful week!

We had the pleasure of staying recently at Casa Gallo which has all the amenities that any traveler needs to fully enjoy leisure in the city of Granada and its surroundings.

Its strategic location in the center of the city, but no noise.

The house is completely cozy, spacious, fresh , safe and beautifully decorated with the style of colonial houses in the city. Its wide corridors surrounding the pool and garden that are the heart of the house. You do not need anything else to enjoy the warm weather . Especially when you add the attention of Jose and Maria Elena that make your stay more comfortable and enjoyable !!!

Super Hub with Helpful Host

Traditional spanish style home with garden and small pool in

courtyard. Three bedrooms on one side. Kitchen and dining

area on the other. There's also a sitting room at front and room to

park one car inside. There are multiple sitting areas around

the courtyard and a small table beside pool. The hammock and rocking

chairs were very popular with the kids.

The house is a good choice when traveling with children but they need

to be watched closely around the pool, etc.

The kitchen was well furnished. A second elevated garden was behind

the house. The home was decorated with a

considerable amount of local folk art depicting festivals in Granada

and the surrounding area. There's a library with

information about Granada, Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

The house was clean and well maintained. We cooked breakfast and out

for lunch and dinner. Temperatures get high in Granada, and we loved coming back to the house in the afternoon and cooling off with a dip in the pool.

There's a good supermarket about four blocks from the house. It's

about a fifteen minute walk to the center of Granada.

The owner and house manager, Jose, can arrange transportation. We

were picked up at the Costa Rican border by

a van. One way cost was $125. From the border with Costa Rica, it's about one hour

and forty five minutes. We stopped for food and

drinks on the way.

The house manager, Jose, was very helpful. When we arrived, Jose

showed us around the house and took us to the

grocery store. He also arranged tours around town, to the volcanic

islands, the local markets in Masaya, and to Catarina (terrific view). He came with us on the tours and arranged

personal security when necessary. Although

Nicaragua appears to be developing rapidly, there is still a good

deal of poverty and one has to take care where one walks,

particularly after dark. Jose is a keen baseball fan!

We had great time at the house during our stay in Granada.

A Colonial Adventure

Hi,

I stayed at Casa Gallo recently with two friends and a four-year old. The house is gorgeous with wonderful amenities.(books, music, hammocks, gardens, rocking chairs, AC's, phones, laundry room, chaise lounges, filtered water, etc.) Jose and Maria-Elena were so friendly and accommodating. The day we arrived they were at the house waiting to greet us. Every afternoon ,we used the pool which was wonderful especially with a youngster. One morning Maria-Elena made us a delicious breakfast that lasted several days. Jose took me to Mombacho Volcano and we even saw a sloth in the forest. The location is perfect and a short walk to the center of Granada. I would highly recommend this home for everyone. Don't miss a visit to the tortilla lady in Parque Central or a class at the Chocolate Museum down the street. The lady gets there around 5:00 and makes the most delicious tortillas with Nica cheese. It was our appetizer almost every night. The photos on the website is exactly what you get. Thank you Richard and Trudy for sharing your beautiful home!
