Incredible design and immaculate sightlines make Ballena Royale one of southern Costa Rica's most sought-after luxury vacation rentals.

Construction on this stylish 3-bedroom, 3 ½-bath home wrapped up in August 2019 and the results are stunning. Located in the lush mountains of Escaleras, between the southern Pacific coastal towns of Dominical and Uvita, Ballena Royale sparkles and shines with every footstep through this lovely property.

The living area, swimming pool, bedrooms, gazebo/palapa, and pool bar all feature storybook jungle-to-ocean views. Gaze out at the world-famous Whale's Tail reef and you may be lucky enough to spot a blue whale navigating the Pacific shoreline below. The house is so private that only toucans, monkeys, parrots, geckos, butterflies, and sloths are within eyesight.

Ballena Royale was made for outdoor living. Belly up to a gorgeous wood bar or let the sounds of the water fountain lull you to sleep in a nice lounge chair. When you're feeling spry, do a few laps in the infinity pool or partake in some yoga exercise over at the palapa. With something for everyone, this is a great vacation option for families and friends.

The home is fully equipped with wireless internet, a flat-screen television, a dishwasher, BBQ, a multi-car garage, a gated entrance, and a washer/dryer unit. There are a half-dozen pool lounge chairs as well as plenty of outdoor furniture. The kitchen table has space for 8 guests, while the fusion granite kitchen countertop has enough room to prepare a meal for a mid-size army.

There is an on-site staff that keeps the property clean & well-maintained. The staff lives in separate private accommodations away from the main Villa.

Two of the bedrooms are upstairs, while the third bedroom is on the main floor of the villa. Each bedroom has an air-conditioner unit, an en-suite bathroom, and a safe for personal belongings.

An outdoor tub and shower are the main attractions of the master bedroom. If you like spending time in a tub while taking in the sounds of the jungle, this is definitely the room for you. It has a king bed. The two upstairs rooms are split with a balcony in between. One of the bedrooms has a king bed that can be altered into a pair of twins for younger kids. The other upstairs bedroom has a queen bed and an indoor bathtub.

It takes less than 10 minutes to get to Ballena Royale from the coastal highway. You will need a 4x4 vehicle to properly navigate the area. The nearest bar and restaurant, Bar Jolly Roger, is a 2-minute drive from the house. It'll take anywhere from 10-20 minutes in the car to reach most local beaches, towns, shopping places, and restaurants.

Phenomenal house and view! Ballena Royale is absolutely beautiful. We stayed 5 nights and loved the infinity pool, A/C in the 3 bedrooms, outdoor seating and cooking area, outdoor showers and bathtub, and comfortable beds. A sloth is in the tree just outside the main bedroom. Excellent communication and service from the management team, yougethere. 4x4 required for the steep road. The nearby restaurant was also lovely. The view of the whales tail was gorgeous. Highly recommend!

One of the best VRBO that we have stayed in the last 5 years of traveling in in CR. Pictures don't due it justice. Outdoor space is posibly the best ever. Resident sloth ,Soy, stayed with us for the first 3 days. He went to find drier ground after 17 inches of rain one afternoon. Babbling creek just outside was an added bonus.

Our family of 4 had a great stay on our first trip to Costa Rica. We really enjoyed the yard and pool but our favorite thing was keeping track of the sloth each day. We had a ton of rain during our stay but the outdoor area was still easy to enjoy with so much covered space.

As others have stated, pictures don’t do this place justice… and the pictures are amazing!! Super clean, and a great layout for the whole family. What a view from the pool and patio area and lots of separate areas to just relax. There’s even a resident sloth nearby, see if you can spot him. What a great place.

Absolutely Perfect!

The property was exactly as pictured and described in the listing. We enjoyed spending time by the pool and relaxing at the house - almost hated to leave for our adventures! The property management service was fantastic helping out with groceries, booking trips, and supporting us with check in, etc. There is a restaurant that is extremely convenient, “Bar Jolly Roger”, that has the best wings we’ve ever had. Amazing property…highly recommend!

Family trip

Wonderful home, conveniently located near waterfalls, ATV and horseback tours, and multiple beaches. There are good restaurants in several surrounding towns and on the mountain itself. Quepos marina is an hour away for fantastic offshore fishing. Loved the seclusion with the availability to whatever we needed a few minutes away. Make sure you have a 4x4 rental car to be safe on the mountain road. We’ll be back.

Luxury in Paradise

Everything about this property was extraordinary! The outside area is simply amazing - the pool, the hammocks, the bar area - there is so much room and different areas to congregate and the view of the ocean from each is exceptional. Inside, the kitchen became our main hang out - it is so spacious and conducive to conversation around the enormous island. The bedrooms are nicely appointed, beds are very comfortable, and the AC units in each keep the rooms at a very comfortable temperature for sleeping. The views from the balconies of the upstairs bedrooms are amazing, as well as the view from the balcony between them. We loved the outdoor shower in the main floor bedroom! Waking up each morning to be greeted by the resident three-toed sloth was an added bonus - we enjoyed watching him eat and explore the trees he occupied. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wish we could have spent more time at this luxurious property!

Our stay was beyond perfect. From the moment we opened the door the villa took our breath away. The pictures do not do it justice. Every amenity you would need is provided & the cleanliness is impeccable. The house concierge and management go above and beyond to assist you and are very responsive. They helped us with car rental booking, dining recommendations and even provided service to do our food shopping so we arrived to a stocked kitchen to our specifications. This was such a time saver so the moment we opened the door, our relaxing vacation began. The wildlife is amazing. We had a daily visit from the cutest sloth, beautiful bird and even monkeys! The Villa is also located in the perfect location, close to national parks and beautiful beaches. It is truly a paradise and an experience. We made memories with our children to last a lifetime and was so sad to leave, but if we do get the fortune to return, this is where we will stay. Pura Vida

Absolute Paradise!

We loved every second of our stay at Ballena Royale! This property is amazing, with nothing left to want! The pool/lanai area is where we spent the majority of our time and was so comfortable. We highly recommend opening the large door between the kitchen and deck… such a great addition! The outside shower & tub were awesome as were the two upstairs bedrooms. The groundskeeper was polite and did a great job keeping the property in great shape. We saw Zoë, the sloth, every day during our stay!! Pura Vida!

Gorgeous doesn’t begin to describe the setting and quality of this slice of heaven. The pictures cannot do justice to the view or amenities. Each room is essentially a master suite, and the kitchen well organized and a joy to cook in. The pool is spectacular...period. And the outdoor shower was more popular than the wonderful bathrooms' showers. Having a resident sloth hang out in a nearby tree was an additional delight. We've been to many, many rentals in our travels, but none have remotely rivaled Ballena Royale.

Ballena Royale was an amazing home base for our trip to Costa Rica. It was even better than the gorgeous photos advertising the property.The home was absolutely beautifully designed to maximize on comfort and the spectacular views of the Whale’s Tail and ocean. Everything was thoughtfully designed with high end materials. The landscaping was spectacular around every part of the property. Both the owner and property rental company went beyond and above to make sure our stay was outstanding. We enjoyed every minute of our stay in Costa Rica and it was such a pleasure to return to this beautiful home at the of each day. The house design complements the beautiful setting and view. We enjoyed all the various sitting areas from the lower level of the pool to the second-floor veranda. The resident sloth made several appearances as well as hummingbirds, frogs, and a cheeky basilisk lizard who can take an early morning sprint across the pool if startled. Jhonnathan helped us check in and was very accommodating. Thank you to everyone involved in keeping this home so very clean and well-kept indoors and out. I would highly recommend and would return to Ballena Royale.

Amazing views!

This house has incredible views! Absolutely some of the best views of the whale’s tale. Outdoor space is phenomenal and well equipped for large groups. It was great for a family, but we thought it would be even better for a group of adults vacationing together. We appreciated small details like binoculars to use, wildlife education cards, umbrellas, and the very well equipped kitchen. Property management was quick to respond which was a plus! Unfortunately we did not see much wildlife other than some common birds annd butterflies and we believe that was a result of neighboring construction noise. A few things to note that we missed or didn’t see in the description is that the first floor master shower is outdoor only so there is no option for indoor shower other than in the two other bedrooms upstairs. The house uses septic system so we were feeling slightly rustic not being able to put toilet tissue in the toilet. We managed just fine but would have preferred that to be advertised as that could be a downside, especially with children. The road was no joke and seems to be poorly maintained but we had no issues and realize that is out of control of the property owners.

Spectacular Week in Costa Rica

My wife and I love this area of Costa Rica and planned to return to enjoy a week of surfing, waterfalls, beaches and all the Costa Rica has to offer. We found Ballena Royale in our search and could not have been happier with the villa, the location or the service. We were contacted by the property manager a week before check in and arranged to meet the day of our arrival to show us the villa. He was in communication with us during the day and it made it easy to find and get checked in. The villa itself is amazing and the view is simply breathtaking. Everything in this property is well stocked and thought out, with views from the kitchen and master bedroom, and a well stocked outdoor cooking space we loved. We spent most of our time at the villa in the outdoor space, taking in views of the Pacific and the Whale Tail, plenty of places for sun, shade, relaxing and I particularly enjoyed the hammock. We even had a sloth that joined us a few mornings and put on a show while we had our coffee. We were so happy with our choice and cannot say enough about the quality, location and service we experienced last week. We look forward to returning!

True Luxury Surrounded by Paradise

This was one of the most magical places I’ve ever been to. Every detail of this property from the front gate and landscaping to the textured finishes of each element of this home truly captures the essence and beauty of Costa Rica. This oasis is nestled with a perfect south facing view of the pacific coast line. We spent most of our time outdoors at this property enjoying the beautiful tropical vibe and feel of the home. The pictures as great as they are do not do justice for how breathtaking the view and backyard is. The audio of the surrounding nature was very nice to wake up and fall asleep to. It wasn’t too high up from the main road/beach and the road is very well maintained. The house is very well kept and clean. The outdoor showers were great, the beds were comfy and the lighting options at night outside were also nice. It was difficult to leave when it was time to checkout, but we are already looking into planing a return trip to this paradise of a home soon. Travelled as a couple.

Simply Stunning!

The pictures do not do this home justice, walking in the whole family was amazed with how beautiful everything was. From the view of the pool and pacific ocean, the outdoor kitchen and living space, the indoor kitchen, and the rooms. We loved the outdoor shower and tub, showering and watching all the hummingbirds dance around the tree. You will not be disappointed in this house at all. There is so much wildlife on the property! You get to hear the howler monkeys all day, and there is a resident flock of Toucans that you get to hear and see every day, there is also a sloth that is on the property, but sadly we didn't get a glimpse of him. So many other beautiful birds and butterflies. There is a young green iguana that we saw multiple times as well. You Get Here was outstanding to work with. We had some travel issues and they were very accommodating and everyone was incredible to work with. They made sure we had everything we needed and asked us what time worked for us to have the house cleaned while we were there. If we had any questions they answered promptly. We only had one minor issue but it wasn't a huge deal. There are many wifi access points in the house but they overlap wifi ranges so wifi would drop in a out. I would recommend swapping out to a full mesh wifi system, that would solve all those issues. This was the first vacation where the entire family didn't want to go home at the end. I would stay here or any other You Get Here property without hesitation!

Our first visit to Costa Rica, and we have fallen in love with both the country and Villa Ballena Royale!If, like me, you have a slight concern that the amazing reviews and stunning photos are just too good to be true, then I can confirm that they are 100% accurate. The villa itself, and the breathtaking views over Marino Ballena Park, will live in our hearts for the rest of our lives. I can also confirm that the road leading up to the villa is really not a problem, at least in the dry season. I certainly wouldn’t want to walk up it, as it is very steep in places, but with a four-wheel drive SUV I found it relatively easy. Everything about the villa was first class, and I would struggle to find fault with anything. We especially enjoyed the outdoor shower, and the large pool with its perfect water temperature. YouGetHere were friendly and helpful, and the companies that they recommended for airport transfers, car hire and wildlife tours all proved to be excellent.The only slightly disappointing aspect was that we saw much less wildlife in the garden than other reviewers. Nature is unpredictable, but in two weeks all we got to enjoy was two brief visits from a Toucan, and a few fleeting glimpses of Hummingbirds. All of which leaves us with a dilemma – we never go back to places, as you miss the buzz associated with discovering somewhere new. However, we both had such a great time that we can’t think of anywhere else we want to go, and so are already planning to return.
