Safe and comfy
We had a wonderful visit
Lovely Cottage; Perfect Location
The cottage is every bit as lovely and quaint in person, as it was in the pictures. It’s located in a truly exquisite neighborhood of beautiful homes/rentals of all sizes with private beach access directly across the street. A perfect get-away for two!
October 2016 Stay
This little get away was perfect. The location of the Following Seas is literal steps from the beach and only a block from downtown. We didn't use our vehicle once we got to Seaside! The house itself is just enough space for two people and has all the necessary house hold utensils (kitchen utensils, hair dryer, iron, etc.). We will certainly be visiting the Following Seas again soon!
June 2016 Stay
We loved our stay at Following Seas! Considering how affordable it is, we would probably stay there again. Perfect for 2 people wanting an affordable getaway.
Pros: right across the street from the Savannah beach pavilion, cute little alley to get to it, the bed was extremely comfortable, the kitchen had all of the appliances we needed, towels were very soft and nice.
Cons: the water pressure in the shower is extremely weak (think drizzle), the upstairs balcony is unusable and needs major power washing, we had wifi connection problems and were offered very little support besides "checking the app" which we had already done.
I'm so sorry you had trouble receiving more assistance on the WiFi. I believe we had a temp working for us that weekend. Our team is usually very responsive and helpful, so our apologies that wasn't the case here. We will get a plumber out to see about the water pressure and will be pressure washing the upstairs balcony as soon as we can. We hope you will come back again!
Great place, with a few caveats
My husband and I just returned from five lovely, albeit rainy, days at Following Seas in Seaside. We were very happy with the cottage - it is a perfect proximity to the downtown area and the beach, and we found it clean, comfortable and well-appointed. We needed to call Seaside Vacations twice for minor questions (trouble logging into the wifi and a minor maintenance issue) and were impressed with the kind and prompt service we received from Matt, and I forgot a few books in the cottage and Gina from Seaside worked quickly to mail them back to me.
If you're waffling on Seaside itself, we'd definitely recommend it! Lots of cute shops and restaurants (some great, some just okay, all pretty pricey...check Yelp for tons of reviews!) and just a lovely place to relax. We didn't check out all the beach pavilions but I would caution families with young kids or a lot of stuff that the trek to the beach at Savannah Street involves maybe 40-50 steps so it's not conducive to using a stroller or a beach cart to lug all your gear. (On a more positive note, the beach pavilion has a well-kept, passcode-protected bathroom so you don't have to run all the way back home for that!)
The only downside for us were the outdoor areas at the cottage. The small deck shown in the listing is even smaller than it appears in the photo (really not sure you could fit a comfy chair on it, actually - nothing was there during our stay) and the combination of the size/proximity of the trees in front of it and deferred maintenance (power washing and paint would go a long way!) means it's not a place you'd really want to hang out. Same goes for a larger lower level patio/deck - it's off the bathroom (!?), not private at all, and the ragged rocking chair there is not conducive to relaxation.
Final quick notes: If you're a light sleeper easily bothered by car lights/noise, this may not be the best place for you because of it's proximity to 30A, but neither of us had any trouble. And the beach chairs we found were in serious disrepair - bring your own or call the Cabana Man!
Great Location But Uncomfortable
Following Seas is in a great location, but the cottage itself is not functional. We felt like the arrangement of the kitchen/living area would work better downstairs. The sitting arrangements were uncomfortable, and we felt like we were mislead on the balcony. The trees are overgrown and laying on the railing of the balcony, and it is so little I do not know where one would sit. In fact, there are no chairs on the balcony as shown in the photo. When renting the property, we asked about the view from the balcony, and we were told you could see water. In order, to do so, you would have to sit in a single file manner!! The positives: two bikes to ride, everything you need to cook, cleanliness, and a SHORT walk to beach and town square. We are already talking about coming back to Seaside, but we won't stay here.
