The Dove's Nest holiday home is a romantic house offering ideal and comfortable self catering accommodation for 4 persons (2 couples in 2 double rooms).
Be sure to watch the video posted above to discover the apartment, its beautiful surroundings and the way it is arranged.

Our romantic medieval house is listed as a national heritage building (Monument Historique). It is embedded in the medieval rampart (built 1500) of Riquewihr, only some yards away of the famous fortified gates of the Obertor and the Dolder. On the mountainside, the medieval city wall is the western wall of the house. On the street side, it is an Alsatian traditional timber framed house. Decorated with great care and especially equipped for 2 couples which seek holidays or a long weekend on the Alsace wine route, at the foot of the Vosges and a few minutes away from Colmar only.
At street level, there is the entrance and the first bedroom (the one with shades of gray and blue colors) with its bathroom and toilets en suite.
Upstairs, the living space spreads over the whole first floor (in the US they would say 2nd floor) with living room, kitchen, Alsatian “stub” (the part where the meals are taken).

The fully equipped kitchen is open towards the “stub” (Alsatian traditional dining room) and makes it possible to be perfectly autonomous. But do not forget that the many ones and excellent restaurants of the village (some of them being listed in the Michelin Red Guide) - with excellent quality-prices ratio - are within walking distance.

And finally, one more and last level up, there is the master bedroom with its bathroom and toilets en suite.

The restoration largely made use of the traditional techniques with organic and healthy materials (untreated wood, natural paintings with lime wash…). Authentic polychrome pieces of furniture and fabrics in Alsatian kelsch contribute to make this small house a real jewel. The house combines charm and comfort and is able to accommodate - Summer as Winter - travelers who are looking before all for refined and authentic places to stay…

Quaint and quirky

Well equipped property in the village. While we did not cook, the kitchen would be fine for simple meals. The apartment has good linens and some nice welcoming touches. Note—this property is not suitable for people with mobility issues (ancient, uneven, but charming stairs).Highly recommend.

Wunderbare Ferienwohnung und perfekte Lage

Wir haben unseren 5-tägigen Aufenthalt in Le Columbier sehr genossen. Die Ferienwohnung ist sehr liebevoll eingerichtet. Die Aufteilung mit je zwei Schlafzimmer, Bad und WC war für uns 2 Paare optimal.Wir fanden die Unterkunft wunderbar: luxuriöse Bettwäsche, äußerst bequeme Betten und Kissen, eine schön eingerichtete Küche.Und die Lage der Ferienwohnung ist natürlich auch super: Man ist gleich in dem wunderschönen Ort. Wir konnten eine schöne Rundwanderung durch die Weinberge nach Hunawihr machen und andere schöne Orte des Elass sind mit dem Auto auch schnell zu erreichen.

6 tolle Tage in Riquewihr

Wir haben uns hier unheimlich wohl gefühlt. Die Wohnung erstreckt sich auf insgesamt 3 Etagen. Ideal für 2 Pärchen, bzw. eine vierköpfige Familie. Die Ausstattung lässt keine Wünsche offen. Ruhig, aber dennoch zentral gelegen. Riquewihr, für uns das schönste Dorf im Elsass, ist ein idealer Standort für Ausflüge nach Colmar oder Straßburg. Nach Kaysersberg und Ribeauvillé ist man mitten durch die Weinberge in knapp 2 Std gewandert. Im Ort gibt es mehrere erstklassige Restaurants und einige kleinere Delikatessengeschäfte.

Un magnifique cocon de Noël

Week end magique à Riquewihr, l'hébergement est magnifique, très cocooning, aussi bien adapté pour un week-end en amoureux que pour un séjour en famille. Idéalement situé, dans les remparts de Riquewihr. Un hôte de choix, très facilement joignable, qui nous a gentiment laissé des cadeaux de bienvenue et de la documentation. Nous reviendrons c'est sûr !

An amazing place that needs to be experienced

Dealing with the owners was a breeze, flawless communication and very helpful throughout. If you are considering staying here (which you should), then I strongly recommend it. Riquewihr is a very quaint is a beautiful town in a a beautiful part of Alsace. It is like stepping into a Brother Grimms fairy-tale. Book and enjoy!

Top Unterkunft für einen Elsassaufenthalt

Alles hat perfekt geklappt. Unkomplizierte Schlüsselübergabe (Kontaktperson kann gut Deutsch). Perfekter privater Parkplatz in Riquewihr in Unterkunftsnähe verfügbar. Wohnung wunderschön und liebevoll dekoriert. Alles vorhanden, was man benötigt.

mooie luxe ingerichte vakantiewoning

Wij zijn één week in deze luxe ingerichte woning overnacht en een leuk verblijf gehad. Bovendien is Riquewihr een leuk toeristiche plaats en een mooie omgeving om te wandelen tussen de wijngaarden. Wij misten bij de woning wel een buitenverblijf (tuin), maar dit is bij nader inzien op de locatie waar de woning is gelegen is niet mogelijk.

A Cozy Nest

Riquewihr is a charming must see, and the Dove's Nest, just beyond the old town's gate, is a perfect place to stay within the town. It has everything needed, and Valarie, the attendant, was responsive and communicative. I highly recommend the Dove's Nest.

The apartment is in a great location and very convenient to all the little villages, wineries, etc.

The apartment has been nicely updated. Our only consideration is the limited privacy of the upstairs bedroom. Opens to the living room with only curtains over the doorway. Depending on who is sharing the unit (family or two couples) this maybe an issue. It is well furnished. The kitchen is rather small if you intend to do a lot of cooking and eating in. But with all the wonderful restaurants in the area that may not be a concern.

Wir waren mit zwei Paaren in diesem Ferienhaus. Es hat uns sehr gut gefallen. Von der Einweisung der freundlichen Hostess(?) bis zum Ende des Aufenthaltes war alles super. Sehr gemütlich , bis auf das Knarren der Stufen (morgens) , wenn der Gang zum Bäcker erfolgte. Die Bäder sind top mit viel Ablagefläche und Heizung. Wir waren rundum zufrieden, auch weil gleich gegenüber Madam Klack wohnte, die uns mit ihrem guten Wein versorgte. Der Ort ist zentral gelegen und man kann viel von dort aus erkunden. Natürlich durch die Bekanntheit viele Tagestouristen. Essen ebenfalls gut. Beim nächsten Mal immer erste Wahl.

Our Riquewihr Idyll

We had a wonderful holiday in Riquewihr in June this year. The Sentinel was our home for four weeks. The apartment was everything we expected from our study of the excellent website and could have asked for nothing more. It is ideal for two people. A pleasant ambience was created with simple but comfortable furniture in keeping with the character and age of the building. Modern appliances kept us in the 21st century and the standard of cleanliness was excellent. Riquewihr is an artist's paradise. My husband had a wonderful time with his sketchbooks and pastel pencils. To enter the town was like walking onto the set of the opera 'The Meistersingers of Nuremberg.' The length of our stay gave us ample time to savour the delights of Riquewihr and build up a rapport with the local shopkeepers. It also enabled us to explore other villages long the wine route as well as the attractive 'easy to drive in' Vosges Mountains without having to travel excessive distances. The assistance given to us on our arrival by the owner and the housekeeper throughout our stay was greatly appreciated. Nothing was too much trouble. We enjoyed the restaurants, Le Sarment D'Or, Le Tire Bouchon and Le Brendel Stub and supported L'Epicerie and Boulangerie. We would certainly come again, health and age permitting.

Highly Recommended

This charming apartment is the ideal base from which to enjoy the medieval town of Riquewihr as well as explore the nearby towns and villages via the local "wine route." We travelled by local bus or on foot -- a car is not necessary. Riquewihr itself is very popular with tourists but mostly these are day-trippers, leaving the evenings for those of us lucky enough to be staying there. The description of the property and the photos were very accurate, though nothing could prepare a visitor for the charming views or the care and attention with which the apartment has been decorated. Customer service was excellent -- we were contacted by telephone within a few hours, even though our initial inquiry was made over the Christmas holiday period. We would absolutely recommend this apartment and have already done so. Nearby attractions include the town of Hunawihr, with its butterfly garden and nature preserve and, of course, there are lots of vineyards and caves for wine-tasting. Recommended restaurants in Riquewihr include the Dolder and Le Sarment d'or. All in all, a real gem and highly recommended.

Dear Lynn, thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are very happy to learn that you had a wonderful stay, even without a car. Actually you are the first who tried the experience during the whole stay. It is easy to arrive at Colmar train station, hire a taxi to get to the apartment with the luggage and use the bus facilities for the rest of the stay. As you saw it, there are plenty of nice and scenic walks through the vineyards, connecting the village of Riquewihr to Kienzheim, Hunawihr and Ribeauvillé. Walk there, come back with the bus or vice versa.

A Wonderful Place to Stay

My friends and I rented Le Columbier for a week-long stay in May 2009. We freely admit that we are very selective about where we stay, but, that said, Le Coumbier was absolutely perfect. Valerie, the housekeeper, met us at the previously agreed-upon time, and showed us around. We found the accommodations to be first-class, all the way: luxurious linens, extremely comfortable beds and pillows, a nicely furnished kitchen. Everything was spotless. It was obvious to all of us that a lot of time and money had been spent in the restoration of this property. I found this property on the internet while searching last year for a place to use as a "base" for visiting the Route du Vin area of Alsace. In this instance, it more than exceeded our high expectations. Additionally, it is so close to many charming towns and villages, as well as less than an hour from Strasbourg. We enjoyed Riquewihr in the early morning and evenings, and traveled throughout the days. I would highly recommend this as a perfect place for two couples (or, in our case, a couple and a single person). Each bedroom had its own in-suite bathroom, and with one on the first floor and one on the third, everyone had their own space. We think that - especially for a week stay or more it is not enough to "survive" during the night but it is necessary to enjoy a place which is somehow of the same level as the historical surroundings, the landscape, the mountain and the vineyards: beautiful. A place where our guests like to have a rest and enjoy some time, not only a place for sleeping. We cared for the health of our guests, using only organic products. We paid respect to the history of the place and the local traditions. All furniture are genuine antiques. And finally, we added the modern touch and comfort.
