I stayed for about 3 weeks and was happy with everything. The place was really comfortable, and quiet. For groceries I mainly used Instacart. Also, Erewhan, Ralphs, and Whole Foods weren't too far either. The kitchen was easy to use.I was taking the 33 bus to Gold's Gym and to Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica. The immediate neighbourhood and surrounding areas are awesome. The host was perfect. Was living my best life on the boardwalk and skate park.
I've stayed at Carol's backyard apartment four times in the past 10 years. You won't find a better value for a short stay in Venice Beach. The location is in the quiet end of Venice, and the beach is just a short walk away, through the cute canal area. Everything you need is in walking distance, restaurants, groceries, the beautiful bike/walk path, the Venice pier, bike rentals, etc. And LAX is just 15 minutes away. The small but convenient cabin has everything two people need: nice shower, well-equipped kitchen, a big comfy bed (you pull out the bed frame to turn it from a single into a king), good wifi, DirectTV, and so on.Best of all is your host, Carol, who lives in the main house and is always available to take care of anything you need. The rest of the time she stays out of the way, and gives you privacy. It's not fancy, but it offers amazing value in one of the nicest beach neighborhoods in LA.
Friendly host, great location. The living space is a bit dated but worked well for our purpose as we were mostly out and about. As others noted, no storage space for clothes. Relatively easy and free street parking.
Carol was a great host - always very responsive to all of my questions and needs. The apartment is in a great location, a stone's throw to the canals and walking distance to the beach. The studio is cute and has everything that you need - a very comfortable stay!
We had a wonderful stay at this property. It was exactly as described and the location was perfect. We stayed based upon all of the positive reviews and we agree with them whole heartedly. It was central to everything and we easily moved about the city. The hosts and their cute dog were wonderful also. Very friendly, easy to deal with and gave us lots of great recommendations. We'd highly recommend anyone to stay here and we know that we'll be back!!
Cozy. Very cozy. Like, no sink in the bathroom/shower with barely enough room to turn around cozy. But good location (walkable to the beach and Abbott-Kinney), comfortable, and lovely hosts Cathy and Kevin. As long as you’re a solo traveler not looking for anything glamorous, it should fit the bill.
This little bungalow is nothing fancy, but it's clean and well equipped for an amazing stay at the quiet end of Venice Beach, at a price that can't be beat for a beachy stay in LA. The host, Carol, couldn't be more awesome, and you'll walk through the Venice Canals to get to a quiet, lovely stretch of beach. You can watch the surfers, walk or bike the beach path, and then have world-class food at Venice's amazing restaurants. That's what we always do anyway! By the way, Carol also supplies two perfect beach chairs and an umbrella.
Small, cute backyard studio in lovely canals neighborhood
Lovely property with trundle bed that can work as two twins or one larger bed. Small table, fridge, hotplate and all utensils. Small shower. Personal, eclectic decor. The owner, Carol, is responsive and absolutely lovely and provides great listings of restaurants and things to do in Venice and LA. We walked along the canals each morning to get coffee!

Liked: Check-in, communication, location
Disliked: Cleanliness, listing accuracy
Very disappointed
There were a few positives, the owner is extremely nice, met us when we arrived and gave us good details, and dishes, silverware, bed sheets, shampoo, and a luggage rack are provided. The owner has a very friendly dog that loves to play, and the location is great. That's about all of the positives though, as far as negatives, there is no storage areas, the one and only closet is full of the owners clothes, so you are living out of a suitcase for your entire stay. The drawers are also full of the owners things or bed sheets, so those cannot be used either. There is no bathroom sink, you must use the kitchen sink for everything. The shower is made for short skinny people, if you don't meet this criteria, you might have problems. I am 5'7", about 175 and I struggled, the shower head is a little taller than I am and there is not much room to move around. There is a skylight in the ceiling, so the entire room is lit up with sunlight at 6am, whether you want it to be or not, and there is mold and cobwebs around the skylight, and the garage door is sealed with tape and the tape is peeling and moldy. The mattress on the bed is extremely thin and hard, so we had difficulties sleeping. The kitchen cabinet door does not stay closed, so you run into it when you turn around. This bungalow is actually a garage that has been cheaply converted into a very small bungalow, and it appears there isn't much maintenance given to fix things.
Carol is great and her cottage is cozy and private. I enjoyed stopping by local coffee shop Cow’s End on the way to the beach for morning walks. Be sure to check out the canals, just around the corner. Shops on Abbot Kinney very close, too.. This was the perfect home base for exploring all that LA has to offer.
This is a lovely backyard ADU, in the quiet residential section of Venice, just south of the canals. You'll have everything you need for a comfy stay, and the host, Carol, is always there to address any concerns. If you are looking for a big bathroom and all the frills, this isn't for you, but we absolutely love it. It has everything we need and the price and location are impossible to beat. Walk to the beach, restaurants, and shopping; walk or ride the beach paths; stroll through the canals. Perfect LA retreat. Carol even provides awesome beach chairs. She is the greatest, and so is her place.
This place was perfect in all regards. The space had everything we needed and was clean and comfortable. We loved having access to the back yard. The location was close to the beach, the canals and to the “boardwalk”. We highly recommend this place! And Nagie the pup is precious!!
Stayed here after a busy time up in Hollywood. Carol was a great host and the room had everything needed for a short stay. Location was ideal, close to beach, Marina, bus stops and shops.
Awesome location. Walking distance to the Venice Pier, Marina Del Ray, and anything else you're interested in. Owner very attentive and friendly. A couple unusual items is there's no sink in the bathroom and we only had one bath towel each for 3 nights. Great place to drop your bags and go explore the area.
Carol's place is in a perfect spot in Venice, just a wonderful little walk away from the beach, via the Venice canals. We would just grab the provided beach chairs, walk a couple of blocks, and pop out on the beach. Amazing restaurants are also within easy walking distance, so you really don't even need a car. Just a pair of flip flops! My adult daughter slept up in the loft bed, and I slept down below. We are already planning another stay, with my wife along next time.
Guest room was just like the pictures. Great location and room--so many things within walking distance. Carol was an awesome hostess!!! Thank you for a great visit!
It was as described except you cant stay in the lofted bed. Its a little dark inside but you stay for the location. Helpful host and all you need. If you dont have a car shop before you get there because the little store there is expensive. If you dont like dogs you might reconsider as the family dog is out whenever you are there.
This is a charming guest house in a backyard in Venice Beach. The area was very quiet and we were able to sleep early or late without disturbance. The guest house has everything you need to settle in: bed, armchairs, dining table, kitchen area (well-supplied with appliances and cooking utensils), and bathroom with a hot (though small) shower. The location is great if you are a tourist in the area. We didn’t have a car and could easily walk to restaurants and the beach, or to several nearby buses to explore across the big city. The canal area this is in is beautiful.
Great quiet spot, hospitality touches would change the experience for the better
The bungalow is sweet and quiet, and a 1/2 mile run to center Venice Beach. Carol was great and accessible and flexible and easy to work with. There are so many small things that she could do, however, to make the stay miles better and make the guest feel more welcomed. Towels were there and clean, but there was only one small towel, not folded but hung up. I went in December, and there was only one thin blanket and one throw - I spent some time significantly cold having a hard time getting warm. Even in the bathroom, a true cabinet versus plastic storage would make it feel much more at home. Overall, a nice stay, but even a few new items would make the place feel much fresher and lighter, rather than a bit dated. Overall, though, I'm happy with the spot. Thank you Carol!
Property owner and her dog were awesome and the location is pretty hard to beat. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again. Thank you, Carol!
