Overview

About the property

Cabin, 2 Sleeping areas, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

The Sha Bear Retreat is nestled in the mountains along the Yaak River of the NW corner of Montana. From Libby, follow Hwy 2 West until you see the Yaak River Road [or Hwy 508]. Go 9.2 miles then turn Right on 'SHABEAR WAY'. Follow the long driveway down and around [1/4 mile] until you pull up in front of a large Log Home sitting up on a slight hill.

The retreat, sits at 2600’ elevation, aver. temp. during the spring through fall is a pleasant 70 degrees, with the hottest months of late July and August {averages about 85-89*} yielding to the coldest months in Jan - Feb. It is truly a delight to splash around in the Yaak River or to hike in the spring and fall, or to snow shoe, snowmobile, or ski during the winter in the annual 7‘+ average snowfall..The Yaak and the Kootenai Rivers are filled with breathtaking views and an abundance of history.

On the other hand, some simply enjoy the peace and serenity that only God and Mother Nature can bring.

Go for a drive to Kalispell where you are at the West entrance to Glacier International Park. Go see the Bear Park! Go see the wonderful ancient glaciers in the park. Driving up “Going to the Sun Road”, you can stop and take pictures of park slopes and wildlife that lives there.

Or you can drive down river to the Yaak Falls just 2 miles away! The Kootenai Falls with a suspended Bridge is where the movie “A River Wild “ was filmed; starring Kevin Bacon and Meryl Streep { I was sitting in the river fishing when they filmed the movie with helicopters flying above, it was fun to watch}. The movie “Always” was also filmed here with Holly Hunter and Richard Dreyfus at Bad Medicine Mt /Bull Lake. You never know whose path you will cross!!!

You will never experience anything more peaceful than sitting under the stars at night, with a campfire watching Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) in Aug-Sep.

Relax on the Yaak River in back of our log home and watch the Golden and Bald Eagles fly above your head! You will never want to leave !

About RB

We are retired Military and currently run a business out of our home. We counsel people on their relationships & we are Life Coaches. We love living in the National Forest & to walk out on our balcony and hear the river rushing by is amazing to us. We try to have our coffee on the deck as much as possible.

Why RB chose Glacier Country

Living high in the mountains of the extreme North West corner of Montana has always been our dream place. We have always lived in the mountains but always wanted to be remote. My husband RunningBear and I bought our log home in 2002 and then built the Amish Log Cabin rental 2 years later. We wanted to be able to have extra space for family and friends to come and visit and have their own privacy. Every once in awhile we go into Sandpoint, Idaho to have a 'people fix' and then are sooo glad to go back home. It's kinda funny actually. We have never wanted to live anywhere else. The beauty of the Yaak Valley is one of the most beautiful places we have ever been & we have lived all over the country.

What makes this cabin unique

We love the sound of the river streaming by everyday. We love the sound of all the Eagles screetching flying above looking for food. We love walking out amongst the tall pines, hiking the trails, fishing, riding horses or ATV's.

Amazing property and owners!

  • 5 of 5

The Sha Bear Cabin, was everything that we wanted and more! RB and Sha provide great hospitality and make the experience even better. It was amazing to see deer every evening walking through the property, and just to enjoy nature itself by getting away from the city life. We highly recommend this property and we will be coming back in the future for another getaway.

Wonderful getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I love the outdoors. We were looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway. What a place! Do not look any further.. You could not ask for a better place than this. The rating for this is above 5. They are off the charts in my opinion.

Sha & Bear really out did themselves. The cabin is truly one of a kind . Not only was it immaculate the kitchen had all the cooking appliances you need. Just bring you groceries from the town. I love their enchanted forest. I cannot wait to come again. I would definitely recommend their place to family and friends.

Amazing! A must visit!

  • 5 of 5

The Sha Bear cabin is absolutely amazing! My husband and I have been traveling to the Yaak Valley for the past three years and wouldn't stay anywhere else.

First of all, the cabin is incredibly clean. We have stayed in many VRBO listings and this is by far the cleanest. That's one of the most important things to me. The cabin is stocked with anything you might need for meal preparation - including a BBQ, which we love to do. The beds are so comfortable, complete with heating blankets and heavy comforters. My husband and I actually look forward to getting such a good sleep while away from home when we are here! The shower has excellent pressure and never runs out of hot water (kind of weird thing to compliment, but when you come from low water pressure areas, it's a big deal). I could go on and on...and that's just inside the cabin!

The cabin has a cozy front porch with rockers, where you can enjoy the peace and quiet, the fresh mountain air and watch the wildlife that come in to the property often. The river is beautiful and only a short walk away from the cabin.

Sha and RB are some of the nicest people we have ever met! My husband found this cabin by total chance while searching the internet and we now consider them friends! They are wonderful hosts, very knowledgeable about the area and a blast to visit with.
