About this property
Bear Valley Outdoor Inn is a Driftless Area Haven
Book a getaway to relax, hike, and enjoy the peace and quiet of our beautiful area, or to enjoy trout fishing in the local trout stream.
Private, air-conditioned, fully furnished, clean and unique accommodations. Enjoy the comfortable, away-from-it-all atmosphere.
We are located in the heart of beautiful Bear Valley and the confluence of five scenic drainage's. 750 acres of public land lay to the south. The remaining boundaries are surrounded by a privately owned wildlife refuge.
We are centrally located within a half hour of some of the most popular attractions of Southwest WI as well as some unique and tranquil settings within minutes.
Some of the activities that can be enjoyed from our front door are hunting, fishing, biking, motorcycling, snowmobiling, bird and wildlife watching, or just relaxing around one of our camp fires.
Also popular is the quality trout fishing available within walking distance. Trout fishing continues to get better as Bear Creek was recently improved under a stream bank improvement and trout habitat project.
Bear Creek Trout Habitat Improvement Project is nearly all under DNR easements with two walk-in public access points on Hwy 130, as well as access off the bridge on Hwy N, just feet from Outdoor Inn.
We are centrally located to the many popular tourist attractions of Southwest Wisconsin.
We are a short drive from The House on the Rock, American Players Theatre, Governor Dodge State Park, Oakwood Fruit Farm, Frank Lloyd Wright Visitor’s Center, The Springs Golf Resort, Natural Bridge State Park, Our Lady of the Fields Chapel, Taliesin, Plain Westbrook Hills Golf Course, White Mound Park, Rockbridge, Hillside School, Tower Hill State Park, Hyde Mill, Unity Chapel, House on the Rock, Cedar Grove Cheese Co, Wisconsin Dells, and many other interesting tourist attractions.
In order to provide peace and serenity for our wildlife, we are a DRONE FREE zone, and have quiet time after 11:00 pm.
We have Light Speed Fiber Internet, and HD Television Live Streaming & Cloud DVR.
Check in time is 4:00 pm and check out time is 11:00 am, unless different times are prearranged.

We had a wonderful weekend! The property is beautifully maintained. We really enjoyed table outside! The grounds were spectacular and easy access to APT!
We were in the area to fish for a few days and stayed here. It was such a cool spot…clean, comfortable, easy check in. Would definitely stay here again.
Nice place. Personable and unique. Owners super friendly - allowed book from shelves to be taken so that it could be finished reading.Relaxing outdoor sitting area in scenic setting.
We had a lovely 3-night stay here, viewing the fall colors in the surrounding areas. The unit was very clean, all the needed items were found in the kitchen. The king bed is very soft and came with fuzzy sheets which were very warm. We were thankful for the fan in the room. The communication was great when we couldn't locate remote controls. Highly recommend this rustic retreat!
This place was BEAUTIFUL. Had a girls weekend and it was perfect. I was blown away by all the gorgeous, healthy plants on the patio, wow! I will absolutely come back. Bill was very nice and we had a wonderful time.
Had a wonderful stay, wish we could have stayed longer! We loved the style and atmosphere. My favorite part was sitting out on the front patio and enjoying the wildlife. We would see the sandhill cranes a few times a day, there were so many rabbits(my favorite animal!), and even heard an eagle! It was delightfully quiet, with only the very occasional car passing by. The stars were spectacular as well. Our main reason to stay was to visit House on the Rock, and it did not disappoint!
We loved everything about this place. From the very well stocked kitchen to the little fish pond outside to the woodpeckers and the view. The beds weee great and so weee the pillows!! They did not hold back on anything for comfort and ease. I can’t wait to go again. The owner was easy to work with and made sure we had what we needed.
What a beautiful piece of paradise. Lots of wildlife, little to no cell service (which we love, but no worries if you don't, Bill has phenomenal WIFI), and views for days! It's not a 5star resort, but thats the charm. LOVE!

I’m glad that you enjoyed your stay, and thank you for leaving everything so neat and clean!
Cell service can be spotty unless you have AT&T, or Consumers Cellular. They get good cell service, but for those that don’t, you can get it through WiFi with the password that I have in the Information Book, but I agree, sometimes it is nice not to have it at all. 😊
We hope to see you later this summer!
My partner and I had a wonderful weekend in the Antique Unit. It was sparkling clean, spacious, and provided all we needed (and more) for our weekend of hiking and birding. We're already looking forward to a return trip!
We really enjoyed our stay in the Antique Unit at Bear Valley. We went in the winter to just get away. We would love to check it out in the summer sometime and see what there is to do in the area.
We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful property. The owner indicated they will add a WiFi booster to provide a stronger signal throughout the house.

Thanks for your patience, Mike.
I have contacted two different services for our rural area, and have gotten two different answers. I have not given up, however, and will keep trying. I have ordered a couple of boosters to try until I can find a provider that works better in our area.
An awesome place to stay and have as a base if you are hiking or exploring the Driftless region! You will likely lose cell service before arriving so definitely print out directions. Beautiful patio, great for drinking coffee early in the morning!
Very nice property in a quiet area. Quite a lot of unique interior decorations. We stayed to go to Devil's Lake. It did seem a little too far for that.

I’m glad that you enjoyed your stay.
Devils Lake is 37 - 40 miles from the Bear Valley Outdoor Inn, depending on which route is taken. That might seem like a long drive, but that is a tourist area, and finding a place closer will likely be more expensive.
I’m sorry that we didn’t get to meet during your stay.
This place is very well situated in the middle of several small towns just mintutes away and cities within an hour. There was lots to explore with great food and beautiful hikes to enjoy. The host was very helpful. We very much enjoyed our stay and hope to come back. Note though that we did not have cell service.

I’m so sorry that you didn’t have cell service. We recently were hooked up with Fiber Optic service, and I forgot to leave the WiFi password in the instructions booklet. It is there now, and I thank you for calling it to my attention.
This is our second year at Bear Valley. We go to APT each year and love Bear Valley. It is surrounded by beauty and quiet! The property is comfortable to us and we especially love sitting on the patio. The variety and sounds of the birds is incredible.
It is a beautiful rustic place with lots of beautiful views and fun taxidermy inside. It’s quite and a nice get away. Bill, the owner, is delightful and a colorful character. There are some chickens and little puppies running around looking for pets. I love the quirkiness of this property!
