About Sam Cave

We are a retired couple from Minnesota.

Sam Cave purchased this house in 2007

Why Sam Cave chose Antigua

We chose to buy our winter home (winter in Minnesota)in Antigua because of the perfect weather. Antigua provides a great place to live. It is safe and has lots of amenities, yet provides easy access to the villages and other cities of Guatemala. Antigua provides a respite from the harsher conditions under which many Guatemalans live. We participate with and often act as dinner hosts to educational and mercy groups that come to Antigua before, after, or during their projects.

What makes this house unique

We love to take breakfast on the corridor beside the garden. We often have an evening meal or snack and glass of wine while watching Volcano Fuego spout off or watching the clouds passing Volcano Agua from our second floor patio.

We use taxis to get around. They are reasonable and available not only for transportation but also for tours and intercity travel. Tuk-Tuks are cheap and fast for local short trips. "Chicken Buses" are very economical and the terminal is very close

very nice

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful home and well stocked kitchen. Quiet and safe area, but need to walk on a very stinky, bus-filled street the last block to get to the home. Otherwise very nice.

Owner's Response: Yes, septima calle ( Calle el Espiritu Santo) is a bus route. That makes it very handy for catching a bus but somewhat smoky and smelly during rush hours. We generally walk on sexta calle one block north to avoid the bus traffic. It is shady and pleasant.

Great home and great experience.

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at lots of home rentals and this was the best experience yet. The house was perfect. Everything we needed was there and Berta kept it clean and even offered us some advice about Antigua.

Antigua is the rest of the perfect experience. There are so many adventure opportunities and sites to see we plan to return for anther two weeks next year just to take it all in.

Look No Further in Antigua!

  • 5 of 5

Our family visited Guatemala for Christmas and spent four nights in this beautiful home for our stay in Antigua.

First of all, communication with the owner, Sam Cave, was great, and also with Lorena Yuc, who manages the home locally. This is a very safe location, a gated community, and it's just a 10-15 minute walk from the parque central. Antigua is a small city, so everything is walkable - or you can take tuk tuk.

The home has all you need for your stay, a well-equipped kitchen, TV, great wireless, comfortable beds, beautifully furnished with local textiles, and of course that incredible view of Acatenango from the upstairs patio. That view from the master bedroom each morning will stay with me forever. What a great place to sit and enjoy coffee and breakfast!

We would stay here again and highly recommend it.

Fantastic Home in Antigua Guatemala!

  • 5 of 5

My family stayed at this amazing home the week of Thanksgiving, November 20-26 2016. It was myself, my wife and our 18 month old son. The house could not have been better, amazing views of the volcanos, large fully stocked kitchen which we used a ton of, and excellent comfortable living room to play and relax in. I had zero complaints and will recommend this place to anyone who's looking for a nice week in Antigua. The walk to the park, or anywhere in town is really short, atleast for us who don't mind a nice walk. The neighborhood is very safe and cozy, with 24 hour guards and security. There was some minor noise from nearby weddings, but who doesn't love to hear live Guatemalan bands from the deck with a Gallo in hand :)

A great place! Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

We were pleasantly impressed with this home and highly recommend without reservation. It was large, clean, and aesthetically pleasing at every turn. Loved the indoor courtyard and the second story view of the volcano. Locked entrance and security guards made us feel very safe while , at the same time, we were very near the central square and could easily walk everywhere. Finally, the owner and property manager helped us secure overnight transportation services and also taxi service to and from the airport (mucho gracias!). We loved every day of our visit and our stay at this property is now has a treasured place in our memories.
