Tears of Joy!!!
When we walked in, we almost started crying because it was so beautiful!!! Happy tears!! The porch was magic! My family loved our stay so much, we can’t wait to book for next year!! There were some issues with the fridge stopping. We just unplugged it and plugged it back in and it was fine. The morning we checked out the dishwasher stopped working. Also, It wasn’t wheelchair accessible. My mom is 86, and the stairs got to her after awhile. But, it was a wonderful vacation!!! Thanks you!!
We're so glad you liked the porch and the marsh view as much as we do! We're sorry you had a bad experience with the fridge and were in the process of getting a repair person when you told us it was working; the dishwasher worked fine when the cleaner came in, and has worked every day since then--wish you had called and maybe we could have helped you figure out why it didn't work that morning. We provide various pictures of the house and the stairs involved on this site as well as our own site, but are still sorry that your mother had a hard time. We want everyone who comes to Mace House to have a wonderful time!
Exactly what we sought; precisely as described. Owners are exceptionally helpful and available. Loved the wildlife and the quiet. A place made for naps, reading, laughing and great meals.
So glad you liked Mace House! And very glad you found the wildlife, especially the painted bunting, and the peace and quiet. Hope you'll come back soon!
What a wonderful week of dock sitting and porch rocking. Perfect house set-up and can't emphasize how perfect the porch is! Beautiful views and beautiful landscape. Can't wait to return!
So glad you loved it! Mace House is waiting whenever you're reading to spend some days in the hammock, watching the tides change in the marsh.
They went the extra mile for the pandemic
We could watch the herrings and birds in the march from the porch. Listen to the surf on the other side. The beach was empty until it got closed then we couldn't tell.
They use alcohol or ammonia-based cleaners everywhere they usually clean, and to be especially sure to clean these:
all light switches
all counters and table tops
all drawer pulls
all remote controls
They also use hydrogen peroxide spray on the mattress covers--a medical grade, 20%, to be sure it's effective
Thanks, Karl. So very sorry you had to leave early, and hope the time is coming soon when we can be on the beaches! But really appreciate your cooperation and understanding, and especially hope you'll come back when things are better! Stay well and safe.
Great week in Pawleys
This is a very nice place to stay. The house, neighborhood, and facilities were excellent. The location on the marsh is good for kayaking and bird watching. Lots of stuff to do in the area. Brookgreen Gardens and Hobcaw Barony were terrific. The house is very well equipped and is comfortable and laid out nicely for family gatherings. We'll be back in the spring.

About Nancy Kreml
Mace House is owned by Nancy Mace Kreml, Jane Mace Davis, and John Davis. Nancy and Jane are retired teachers: Jane taught math at Irmo High School and Nancy taught English at Midlands Technical College, both in Columbia. John Davis edited South Carolina Wildlife magazine, and now paints wonderful wildlife scenes. Jane and John also have a house near Brevard, NC, and Nancy (and her husband Bill) have an apartment in Chicago--but we all live in Columbia much of the year with cats, dogs, and other tame and not so tame animals!
Nancy Kreml purchased this House in 1972
Why Nancy Kreml chose Pawleys Island
Our parents, Mary and Parke Mace, built the house in 1972, and our family has enjoyed it ever since. The marsh is the true heart of all our memories, and we're so happy every spring when the first warm evening lets us take cold drinks out to watch the sunset. Our parents and grandparents spent summers at Pawley's, and now our children and (future)grandchildren do, too. Pawley's offers beautiful beaches and marshes, fascinating history, great golf courses, excellent fishing and crabbing, and easy access to Georgetown, Murrell's Inlet, and Charleston, as well as the Francis Marion National Forest.
What makes this House unique
We've always thought that paradise is in the marsh at Pawley's. When we're there, you'll always find us on the dock at sunset, eating supper on the porch, or curled up to read by the fire if the evening is cool. We always like to take a trip to Brookgreen or a nature tour at Hobcaw, eat out or buy fresh-caught seafood and cook it ourselves, play games or watch a movie, and best of all, kayak in the marsh to see egrets, herons, ibis, eagles and other wonderful creatures. And every summer, we swim in the perfect surf on Pawley's beach!
