Lakehouse at Lakecrest is in a beautiful location set in a private cove on Lake of Egypt, just a short distance from the family friendly towns of Creal Springs and Marion, Illinois. Several area attractions, marinas, restaurants, and activities are within a few minutes’ drive from the property.

• With 93 miles of secluded wooded bays and inlets Lake of Egypt is one of Southern Illinois’s hidden treasures. Boating, fishing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and swimming are prime activities, and water-skiing, tubing, and jet skiing are also available in certain areas. Three marinas on the lake – all accessible via boat or personal vehicle - offer everything from food trucks almost every Friday and Saturday, full bars, live music, and delicious restaurants serving Mexican food and amazing pizza.

• Take a day trip to the Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge where 44,000 acres of land and water are home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. The Refuge serves as a winter feeding and resting area for waterfowl, and opportunities to view geese, bald eagles, songbirds, raptors, white-tailed deer, and wild turkey can be found in many areas of the Refuge. Points of interest, trails, auto tours, and viewing blinds have been developed throughout the Refuge to enhance wildlife encounters.

Yearly Family Getaway
The pool was wonderful! The beds were comfortable. The upstairs living room was very nice. We spent most evenings up there. Lake Egypt was clean and fishing, boating and kayaking were great! We left the grill and charcoal for the next guests. Wish the downstairs area was better arranged for larger groups (there were 9 of us). Switching out the bed for the couches would be a good start. Then the table could be placed in an area that is easier to access.

Strange layout
This property is not for someone who cannot do stairs. The kitchen is down a spiral staircase in the basement while the living area is upstairs. The dock is located with no water (so no fishing there) and zero view of the lake with the stairs down to the dock unsafe. The pool and upstairs were nice but we felt like we were constantly going up and down stairs to get a drink or snack. The host was very nice and extremely helpful with our questions.

Quiet Country Retreat
This is the second year my family has stayed at this property. The property is clean and well maintained. The pool offered plenty of space for our group of 12. The option to use the dock is very convenient if you are bringing your boat or renting one like we did. The host is friendly and very responsive and lives nearby. We truly enjoyed our time here!

Nice property, it just didn’t work well for us
The property was very nice, and was exactly as it was depicted in the description. However, we experienced several snags during our trip. No instructions ever mentioned that it was the upstairs back door that would be the entry door to the property. We had to search to find how to get in. We were never able to find the accessible boat dock from the water. Directions from the marina to the property would have been nice. We knew about the spiral staircase, but it was much more of a hindrance than we could have imagined. Most of us ended up going outside to get to the upstairs. The kitchen was not set up for 8 people. There was not enough silverware and there was no mixer that we could find. When we left, all the doors locked from the inside, so we had to leave one door unlocked when we left. The saving grace was the pool. We all enjoyed it immensely. Again, this was a very nice property, it was just not good for our particular family and could have had clearer instructions on some of the details.

About the host

Hosted by Kristine & Scott Rhodes

Host profile image
I'm Kristine, my husband Scott and I purchased a lake home on Lake of Egypt after visiting with one of our friends and falling in love with the lake life. We are avid travelers and in the winter go to many warm places but spend the summer enjoying our awesome lake. We live in Jackson, Missouri about an hour and fifteen minutes from the lake. So its an easy commute over for us. I'm a realtor and my husband is in commercial construction. We also have a construction company where we design and build homes. In the fall and spring we enjoy the outdoors by riding our side by side in various place around the country. We have 7 grown children between us and 6 grandchildren.

Why they chose this property

We love the location of Lake of Egypt because it is so much more then just the Lake. There is live music almost every Friday and Saturday night in the summer and sometimes even on Sunday afternoon. There are many awesome wineries on the Shawnee wine trail and Marion, IL isn't 10 minutes away with many shopping and dining options. If you don't own a boat then boat rentals are available. The fishing on the lake is amazing and you will find if you want to try your hand at a competition there are fishing tournaments a couple of weekends a month. This lake is the best for another reason. It' spread out so doesn't feel so crowded but isn't as large as some lakes so it is easy to get from place to place. If you are there for more of a party atmosphere then party cove never disappoints. But if you are there for family fun then I know that your kids or grandkids will LOVE the pool. Ours sure do and prefer it over the Lake especially with the slide.

What makes this property unique

We love that we don't have any neighbors across the cove or to one side of us in the back by the water. It makes that back of the home so private and natural feeling. There are many times in the summer time that you will find turtles sunning on the logs and the bald eagle flying in the trees. You will find all kinds of waterfowl there in the water not just in the summer but in the fall, spring and winter even. It really is a peaceful place to enjoy coffee or breakfast or a glass of wine. Its a great place for a couple to just relax or a great place for a large family gathering. Our kids, grandkids and just our family in general loves it there but we also enjoy those weekends when it is just the two of us enjoying the peace and quite.
