SJ Landmark The Hensley House Master Suite with Bathtub Unit 1

The Hensley Historic District was adopted as a local Historical Landmark District in 1990 by the San Jose City Council. The district contains over 225 buildings that contribute to its historic character, representing the largest concentration of Victorian era residences in greater San Jose.
The namesakes of the district, Major Samuel J. and Mary Helen Hensley, were early San Jose residents of the American period, whose lives are interwoven with the origins of modern California.The period of significance for the establishment of the historic district is 1865-1918.
456 north 3rd st, named The Hensley house, is one of the top well-perserved Victorian building since 1894.
It was a B&B in 70th, and turned into Airbnb by its new owner. Now, the Hensley House has 7 unities, all has its own bathroom, some has full kitchen.
The Unit 1, located at the first floor, is the most well kept from the original interior amount other units. Colorful stained glass, hand carved wood cabinet, gold chandelier, hand painted ceiling with gold foil…
While experiencing the historical beauty, newly remodeled shower, bath top, and kitchen will give guests higher comfort level.
Sleeping on the Tempur-pedic bed, with the fireplace by the side, watching 55in smart TV, will call for the night.

Loved the neighborhood and it was a short walk to Japantown. Parking on the street was easy, day and night, luckily we stayed on days that there were no street parking regulations. Checking in/out was easy. It was quiet and bed was very comfortable. Very nice that there was drinking water available in the common area to make coffee, refill water bottles. A unique stay in a Victorian house in a convenient area of San Jose, thank you!

A great place to stay in the Historic district of San Jose. It's close to numerous amenities, corner store, restaurants, bars, mini golf, ... There is also public transit nearby, buses and trains to get around. It is simply 8 minutes from your stay to the convention center. There are 6 spots at this house and Room 1 was where we stayed. Very roomy and quite surprised there was a kitchenette! The style is eclectic and true to period (1800's) The separate restroom from the shower was great. There is also a soaking tub if you want to take a dip. The bed was amazing! Very comfortable. There was no a/c in the room only a fan. It did the trick though. There was no soap for the shower, so thankfully we knew the people in Room 6 and they gave us some and in return we gave them paper towels.The communication with the VRBO house owner was amazing! When I had a question, she responded quickly. They gave easy instructions to get into the front door and to our quarters. They even let us know where we should park as the next day would be street cleaning. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone looking for an "apartment" type feel instead of just a hotel. This place will definitely be where I will stay again when I come to San Jose.

I’ve stayed here a few times and it’s always fantastic! My son just started at SJSU and this is a fantastic property to stay at because it’s close and it’s cool and comfortable. I’ll be back for sure. I’m sorry my pictures aren’t great but it’s all I have. The place is beautiful.

There weren't any hand towels in bathroom, which I found odd. I was only staying one night, so didn't open fridge or use kitchen, but the dishwasher was all dirty and stained from the outside. Windows don't seem to open, so the morning when the shower was running, it got really warm in there. No way to control temps. I also had to reach out to host to get my access information morning of instead of the details being provided to me. Property looks elegant in photos, but doesn't translate in person. The bed was comfy and clean! The shower had great pressure and a good shower head! We stayed here as it was affordable compared to locations closer to Levi stadium. The grounds were underwhelming, but overall totally fine for one night.

Great location

Things we really liked: The location was convenient and very walkable to Japantown and downtown SJ. We appreciated the keurig coffee in the room, and bottled water tank near the shared kitchen where we could refill our water bottles. The bed was comfortable. Very short wait for hot water in the shower and sinks to start up. The owners were very quick and responsive to messages sent through the app. Beautiful succulents in the back yard. We also appreciated the free street parking. However, it’s an older house so the walls are very thin and we could hear the neighbors, not just in the house, but also outside. It wasn’t the cleanest but ok. In room 1, just fyi, the area above the toilet door, where I assume once had a window, is windowless, so the toilet is not enclosed to contain your personal sounds and smells. The entry was sprayed with a really strong scent, as well as the linens had a strong detergent scent. So if you are sensitive to fragrance, be warned.

Perfect stay for wedding weekend

This little gem was just right for me. All of the wedding events were within 10-15 minutes, because of the central location. The unit was charming, well supplied, and had a wonderful bathtub and shower. I also loved the electric fireplace that could be put on a timer and had the option for heat. It was just a perfect setup for me - I would stay again. The shared kitchen and living space was very nice. Hot water, keurigs, snacks, place to cook food if you want. The historical aspect was especially appealing to me, and there is a booklet with descriptions of the house architecture on the street and the history of the Hensley community from the 1800s. Great stay!

Unexpected Conditions

The room (Room 1) was noisy:The floor squeaks when somebody moves upstairs. Pipes bang when somebody uses the toilet upstairs. Vehicle noise on the street outside is significant. Unusual odor:There's an odor in the bed laundry that is unique and not pleasant. Poorly maintained:The facility is generally run down and condition of walls, doors, etc. are noticeably worn.It appears that the floors were quickly cleaned, as there was debris in the corners, behind chairs, and under the bed.Some of the kitchen utensils were sticky.Guidance lacking:There are no instructions in the room for how things work.  Poor parking:Parking is very difficult because it's only on the street and this is a crowded residential area. We had to park two blocks from the facility.Missing feature:Although the facility had a beautiful dining area and a full kitchen, no coffee or pastries were provided for a light breakfast.If these issues are addressed, this facility would be worthwhile.

Quick getaway

My husband and I absolutely adored the master suite, the decor the house everything was magical. Quick walk or bike ride to everything you would need a hostess was quick with communication.We will definitely be back!

Excellent option instead of hotel

This was a surprising, but enjoyable stay. We were looking for an option other than a hotel. The location is easy to find, instructions to enter your room are easy to follow, security is a plus, and the room was a nice, respite from our daily activities. The suite includes the best rainshower and tub combo, a small kitchenette, and a separate toilet with sink area. The armoire allows you to put your traveling items away. The room was vintage pretty and the bed was comfortable.

Nice stay

Pleasant neighborhood and local restaurant in walking distance. Clean linen and nice appeal. Stairs above us and neighbor was loud. No hand towel and poor parking availability. Tub was not cleaned out. Shower was great. Lighting was wonderful.

Lovely and comfortable

Lovely house and neighborhood. Comfortable accommodations. A bit of trouble getting in but it was resolved quickly. While it was very clean in the most important areas, more attention to dusting wouldn’t hurt 😊
