Enjoying the comfy, handmade log bed!

VRBO Bear stayed here

The "Angler" was all I hoped for and more. Even before setting my paws in the door, I had fallen in love with the cabin and the beautiful valley! I started my day listening to the fire crack and pop while I watched the sunrise slowly transform the snow-covered mountains from blue to pink to acres of sparkling diamonds. Take a moment and imagine yourself being surrounded by such a scenic vista. The mix of primitive, antique and woodsy elements blended together in a charming way, creating a "homey" atmosphere that had a way of instantly setting us "at ease". I claimed the bedroom with the beautiful handcrafted log bed (as a bear, it was the obvious choice and most comfortable tree I ever slept in!). Bears like the sweet stuff and we ate well. The kitchen’s Maytag appliances worked great and the gas stove and oven were a dream. Having a dishwasher was also very much appreciated. We came to ride snowmobiles and the trailhead to the many Forest Service trails were just outside the front door. It was so nice to just get on and ride without the need to load them back on the trailer at the end of the day. We explored the Hahns Peak, Colorado area and even, rode to Wyoming. We experienced awesome riding in fresh powder, day after day. We wish we could have stayed longer with so many more trails to ride and meadows to discover. This summer, we hope to return to explore by ATV or mountain bike. Our host was exceptional and very eager to make sure we had a perfect stay- and it was! The VRBO Bear

Perfect Thanksgiving

  • 5 of 5

Our family - 7 adults and grandbaby - came to the Angler for Thanksgiving 2012, and what a wonderful choice. Steve was attentive and pleasant to deal with in every detail. We arrived to a warm fire and the best appointed kitchen and warmly decorated, comfortable cabin that you can tell was built with care. The valley itself is beautiful and provides easy access to whatever outdoor activities you choose. The weather during our stay was nice enough that we hiked and rode the ATV on trails that remained open. There were children sledding on the pond while I sipped my coffee on the deck. We made Thanksgiving dinner and played cards, Scrabble and created wonderful family memories in a gorgeous place. We watched the sun rise in absolute peace and the eagle soar across the front deck and settle in the pine tree by the pond. It is a special place.

Family Review for Angler Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Our family really loved the Angler Cabin. My husband and I brought our two children and my parents to the cabin over the summer for a long weekend. We were so pleased with how beautiful the cabin was. It is incredibly spacious and incredibly clean. The kitchen is a lovely place to make meals and the banquet breakfast nook seats plenty of people. We hiked the trails every day, and fished in nearby lakes as well. There is a great lake beach not far from the cabin and it was a fun place to take the kids for a day to explore in the sand and water. We highly recommend Angler Cabin for any family looking to get away in a beautiful home and in a beautiful part of the country.

We are a family of snowmobilers. For the past 12 years we have spent our Christmas holiday snowmobiling. We have visited a number of places in Colorado and were looking for better snow conditions. We found the Midnight Ranch online and made a phone call to Steve Coolidge in the fall of 2011. We drove up and spent an afternoon with him and signed a contract to stay 10 days on the spot.

We arrived at the Angler Cabin on December 21st late in the evening. Steve had a fire going in the fireplace for us and the lights blazing. The family spent a few minutes exploring the cabin and picking out their room. This beautiful cabin was handcrafted and built by Steve himself. All of the logs and materials in the cabin were grown on his property.

This cabin is fully stocked with everything! We spent the first evening unpacking items for the kitchen only to discover that we didn't need to bring half of it because Steve already had it. There was every possible item to cook with, including a crock-pot and a popcorn popper! The dishwasher was great as it gave us more family time to play cards in the evening. There is a wood stove along with a forced air furnace. We preferred the wood stove and Steve ensured that we always had plenty of wood to burn. It was very relaxing to sit by the fire and listen to the crackling of wood while telling stories and making memories.

This cabin is located in Colorado's most picturesque snow covered mountains. When we visited in the fall, Steve assured us that he would always have plenty of fuel on site for our snowmobiles. This was critical for us as we ride hard and burn a lot of fuel. We were able to ride our snowmobiles right from the front door. This area has snowmobiling for riders of all levels of expertise. There are over 400 miles of groomed trails from the doorstep for those who prefer riding the trails. There is also plenty of snow for boon-dockers, hill climbers and speed demons.

This cabin comfortably sleeps 10 and easily accomodated our 86 year old mother. Our family was able to spread out with none of us feeling crowded yet it was so homey. We were so impressed that we immediately booked Christmas 2012. There is only one thing that would make this a place better - and that is us owning it so that we could stay there year round!!!

Thanks, Steve for a wonderful vacation. We now consider you our friend.
