This is the perfect place to enjoy Oahu !
We love staying here and have also enjoyed it in the past!. It would be nice to have somewhere to sit and watch TV besides the bed. The only other suggestion would be to perhaps have a polite suggestion sign upstairs for them to be quiet and respectful of the people staying on the lower level. It was very noisy when we were trying to sleep (all night!) - It is understandable that folks come from a different time zone but children ran constantly right over our heads in all night and the wee hours of the morning! I would also like to share that these same residents were very nice and we became friends during our stay - but they had no idea of how noisy it was for us living below them. :-(
Thank you for your stay with us and for sharing your experience with other travelers. We were pleased to read you liked staying at our place but were sorry to hear there were some issues with the noise. Please rest assured we have addressed this with property manager to ensure we improve on this.
Regarding your comment on the place to watch TV. We will have an addition one be installed in the front room during this summer. Hopefully if you return to us, you will have more places to watch TV.
Wow! What an amazing vacation we had in Hawaii! Laie Palms was exactly what we needed for some relaxation and fun in the sun!
There were six of us that rented the entire house. My daughter, her boyfriend & I stayed in the upstairs unit, while my friends and their son stayed downstairs. The house is depicted just like the photos! It even looks better in person! The ocean is your backyard! :) It was such a treat to wake up in the morning and walk 20 steps to the beach! The waves are much bigger in the winter; especially on the North Shore - so be extra careful and alert when you are in or near the water.
The beds were very comfortable and it was wonderful to be able to hear the waves lapping the shore at night! The sunrises in the mornings were truly spectacular! The view from the porch is absolutely breath-taking! Laie Palms is located on the northeast side of the island, so you will experience rain showers more often than on the southwest side of the island. That was fine with us.
It is conveniently located close to Laie Shopping Center, which is a large local mall with a grocery store, movie theaters, salons, banks, post office, hardware & casual eats. The best part is that it is less than a 5 minute drive from the house! North Shore Tacos is about an 8 minute drive up the road. The Polynesian Cultural Center is a 5 minute walk from the house; which is nice because they have a fabulous luau there and also many shops and food trucks! Sunset Beach and Haleiwa are just a short drive away too! But then again, you are on Oahu, so nothing is really more than an hour away.
There is a Mc Donald's right across the street. (But, who wants that when you can experience so many types of local cuisine!)
The owner knew we would be arriving very late in the evening, so she arranged to have keys in the lock box by the garage that made it handy to gain access to the house. The washer & dryer are located in the garage along with the grill & beach chairs.
I would highly recommend Laie Palms to friends and relatives who want to have a truly fantastic time on Oahu. I lived on Oahu for 10 years and the North Shore has always been a favorite spot of mine. It's away from all of the crowds and the hustle and bustle of Waikiki and downtown Honolulu. Thank you, Janet, for sharing your home with us. We will definitely be back!
How do we book this. Received notice dates are available but doesn't give information about booking.
We rented the whole house for 13 days in 2016. Loved it! Access to beach can't be beat. My grandchildren (12, 10, 17, 2) played in the waves for hours. At high tide we had to be careful with the 2-year-old, but at low tide it was perfect. The house had plenty of room and was well stocked and well maintained. Here are a few improvements/suggestions I would have for the owner/management. The yard was somewhat messy when we arrived and since first impressions can't be redone, a little more care could have been paid to it. There were no screens in two of the windows upstairs and two of the fans didn't work on high (important when there's no air conditioning). This ad lists a small cooler. There isn't one. The trash and recycling bins were both full. Maggots in the trash can! We arrived on the afternoon of trash day, so we had to store trash in the garage for a full week. Found two blowup beds and neither was usable (no pump, holes). Master bedroom TV never would advance past the setup screen (two techies with us had no luck). Wish there was a vacuum for sand. Picking up and returning keys (a 45 min drive) was a hassle. Need a keypad or keybox. Charges a fee to put balance on credit card. In the positive column, futon mattress is thick and I think even an adult would be comfortable on it. When the downstairs needed a new bedside lamp, the management company got one quickly. My daughter bought a baby gate for the top of the stairs and we left it there for others to use. Don't think I would rent the downstairs if strangers were renting upstairs. You can hear every footstep downstairs. Location is great with shopping and attractions close. Had to go to Tamura's Market for liquor. None to be found in Laie (Mormon town). We love North Shore Tacos, Seven Brothers (both of them), Giovanni's, Lulu's (in Honolulu). Spent a day at Kuilima Cove at Turtle Bay. Expensive drinks and food, but good and nice to have access to. Good snorkeling (we snorkeled a lot at the house, too. Bring your own stuff. Equipment at the house is very limited). Went on helicopter rides with Paradise Helicopters at Turtle Bay. Everyone that went thought it was amazing! Rented SUPs from Uncle Bryan's in Haleiwa and paddleboarded with sea turtles. Visited Polynesian Cultural Center. Buffet food lacking but Ha' show wonderful. The ice cream shop in Laie Center has the real Dole Pineapple Whip! Would rent this house again in a heartbeat!
We had an absolutely fantastic stay in this Laie Palms house. We rented it for two weeks and stayed on the second floor - the 3BR/2BA area. It was very clean and everything that was needed for a comfortable stay was there. The one thing we did not expect and that was not mentioned in any of the reviews was the wind. It was rather strong and every time that we climbed the stairs to the second floor we immediately felt it. But actually it was very nice and very refreshing especially when we were returning from the other beaches where it felt very hot.
We started every morning with a walk along the people-free beach (well, sometimes you can see a person or two or even four on a weekend) and then swam in front of the house before the breakfast. The ocean was all ours, nobody else to share it with. Actually one can spend the whole day in front of the house just seating on the beach and swimming (it is possible to snorkel there two, but there were just a couple or two of different fish).
The location of the house is really fantastic. First, it is right on the beach. Second - it is very close to a lot of excellent snorkeling places (Turtle bay, Shark cove and Three tables - are all perfect places for snorkeling. They are free and there are tons of different exotic fish. I even swam with a couple of turtles there). Third, it is very close to supermarkets (Foodland and Tamura's). Fourth, there are a lot of good places to eat if one does not want to cook and if one wants to cook fresh fish is available every Thursday opposite the Foodland in Waimea.
Just a couple more things about the owner. Janet was very accommodating while we were arranging our stay with different people coming at different time. And when at the end of the stay there was an issue with a power interruption she helped to handle it in an extremely gracious way.
Janet, thank you very much for your house and for everything else! it was a great stay and we unquestionably recommend the place to everyone who wants to have a great vacation on Oahu.
We love Laie Palms!
This was our second stay at Laie Palms. In November, 2013, we rented the whole house for ten days. It was perfect for our family of ten. Lots of room for everyone, comfortable beds, clean bathrooms, well-equipped kitchen. The best part was the location, it can't be beat. Right on the most beautiful beach. Most days we had the whole beach to ourselves! Everyone swam--it was great for our little grand kids aged two and five. There were blue bottles for the last couple of days--but once we knew they were there, we didn't get inthe water. We spent time on lots of other beaches--Turtle Bay and Sunset were two of our favourites.
Our most recent stay was a girl's trip. We had the whole main floor for just three of us--we felt kind of guilty having all that room (not really!) it was great--the first time in over 30 years that my sister and I spent time together in Hawaii. We spent lots of time on the beach, it was nice having beach chairs, snorkels, towels--everything we needed there for our use. Groceries and yummy food is close by. We loved Ted's Bakery and the Kahuku Grill.
Can't wait to return--wouldn't change a thing. Thanks, Janet for sharing your wonderful house with us.
