Beautiful view from house for relaxation. Take your time visiting many of the islands 300 beaches. There are plenty of inlets and sandy beaches to launch a day of snorkeling, swimming, para-sailing and scuba diving exploring an old wreckage or take a quiet walk along the beaches with no destination.
There are a great variety restaurants nearby with a wide variety of Caribbean foods. Great tasting beers and wines to go with your meal or quench your thirst after a long drive to your favorite beach.
Sailing is a passion for many sailors or people who just visiting the island. Sail week is in April and is great fun to mingle, have a drink and chat with the crews off the many sailboats in the race. This is a time of competition, strategy and great fun enjoying everything under the sun.
Relaxation on Antigua it is a unique experience you don't want to miss.
Keywords: Our house is on a hill overlooking Dickenson Bay, within walking distance to beach.
My parents have owned this house for many years. Artists have drawn and painted bueatiful scenes on the walls throughout the house. My mother loves her garden overlooking Dickenson Bay, it's a great way to start and end the day with a breath taking view of the bay. Throughout the years we've had friends visit and enjoy the friendly people and historical places on the island. My mother loves to sail and visit her favorite beaches and snorkel the sandbars located around the island. Both of my parents loved their sailboat and have entered many sailboat races in most of the races over the years. They also enjoy visiting the many Islands in the Caribbean. There are many stories that go with each adventure.
Adam Hartmann purchased this house in 1980
If you are looking for adventure or want to come and celebrate and dance with the steel drums this is the place to visit. There are also many quiet places to relax with a friend or book and a bottle of something to help cool you off.
* The master bedroom, bathroom and walk-in closet are air conditioned, this also includes the guest room.. The rest of the house has fans and usually there is a breeze to cool the house down.
We are a non-smoking house. However if you must smoke please do it outside and clean up butts after you are finished. Antigua is a great place to slow down, enjoy the great sunsets and take in the fresh ocean air. Go for a swim or scuba dive. There is para-sailing although you would have to find out about rental of gear and the best spots for para-sailing.
enjoyed the stay, described very well. Hot water is not abundant, but the breeze in April was wonderful.
As mentioned by other reviewers, you will be astonished at the size of this house. It would be difficult to locate on your own but luckily Lillian will guide you to the house. The patio is huge and divided into 3 separate areas. We thoroughly enjoyed have coffee on the patio each morning as we watched the cruise ships sail into port. The rooms are all very large. Bedrooms have fans as well as AC although we never used the AC and rarely turned on the fans. There was always a breeze. The kitchen is well equipped with dishes, coffeemaker, etc. There are even beach chairs, snorkel gear, towels, cooler and boogie boards. There is a phone available for local calls which was very nice since we arranged a few tours. You can walk to a few restaurants and some beach areas but I would suggest renting a car. The only thing that was missing for us was internet access BUT we were trying to relax!!! The property was clean and the photos are very accurate. I would recommend this house to anyone. We took day tours to Barbuda & Montserrat. Don't miss the Stingray Cay tour. It is pricey but where else can you swim with stingrays!! We tried various restaurants and found them pricey with so so food. The grocery is nearby and we managed to make our own food on several occasions. Cococut Grove was very nice with a beach setting and reasonably price with good lunch menu. Blu Pineapple nearby was ok. Bay house was ok. Our deposit was promptly returned. Can't go wrong with this house.
We are a young couple who stayed in this villa for 10 days in April 2013 and we were very happy with our choice. The property is very breezy, spacious and well-presented throughout and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. It actually exceeded our expectations and the photos on the website do not do it justice. The property is situated on a hill and only a few minutes (driving) from many beautiful beaches. As we rented a car to explore the island the fact that the house is up the hill did not affect us in any way (you could walk to the beach as well but coming back is a bit steep). From the terrace, you will have a fantastic view of the sea through palm trees and bougainvilleas and this is where we actually spent most of the time enjoying our morning coffees, or the evening rums watching the sun go down. A supermarket is located close by which was very convenient. Adam (the owner) and Lilian (the manager) were both very friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend this property and will go back again (hopefully soon).
We just returned from a two week stay at this cottage and in every way it exceeded our expectations. If you want to enjoy the best beach on any island just look where the Sandals Resort is. Dickenson Beach is about 1 mile long with the all inclusive Sandals and Rex Halcyon Resorts sharing this beautiful beach. All beaches in Antigua are public so we spent two weeks sharing it with these two resorts.
As mentioned in other reviews the cottage will surprise you by its size. The first week my daughters aged 25 and 23 joined us. They had twin beds and two bathrooms in their wing of the cottage. The dining room and kitchen are huge and we barely used them. We spent all, and I mean all of our time on the deck overlooking the bay.
Unlike most people we had no intention of renting a car. And we didn’t need to. We are in our mid 50’s and fit so we packed up the cooler, beach chairs and beach towels from the cottage and walked the ¼ mile down to the beach every day. We walked back down for dinner to Peppers N’ Lime or Coconut Grove right on the beach. We walked twice uphill to the Bay House Restaurant at the Tradewinds Hotel. What beautiful sunsets. We had takeout one night from Opus, a restaurant across the street from the entrance to our road. Like others we did go to Putters one night but preferred the other restaurants for repeat visits. We did find a taxi driver who we could call for any of our driving needs including visits to either First Choice or Epicurean for groceries. He even waited for us while we shopped. If you do not want to rent a car my advice here is to make friends with one of the local drivers at the Rex Resort and he will be there at your beck and call. We booked 2 excursions (Shirley Heights and a Jeep Tour of the island) through the Rex Halcyon. We booked the circumnavigation Wadadli tour through Tony’s Sports right on Dickenson Beach.
The biggest pluses to this cottage were the view, its proximity to Dickenson Beach, a phone to make local calls to our cab driver and Lillian (property manager), a generator (came on one night and lit up the whole house), its safe location set amongst the Dickenson Bay Cottages compound, its safe feeling with all the windows covered with ornate metal bars so all we had to worry about was locking the front door and lastly two lime trees growing out by the clothesline. Fresh limes made our rum punches so much better.
I can’t leave this review without pointing out what a bargain this cottage is.
My husband and I spent nine days in this house with an incredible view. We needed no heat or air conditioning for the time we were there. The breeze blows through the house 24/7 making it very comfortable. The location isn't far from the beach and all of the beaches are public in Antigua. Resturants are nearby and the grocery store isn't far either. We rented a car while we were there and drove all of the island. Lillian takes care of the property and was very helpful. We enjoyed our visit very much and will definitely go again.
My friend and I enjoyed 12 wonderful nights in this beautiful home. The house is well equipped from the kitchen to linens, beach towels, coolers and beach chairs. Home is much larger than shown in the photos. We felt very safe with gates, bars and an alarm system. We enjoyed many relaxing times on the patio with a fabulous view - drinking coffee in the mornings and wine in the evenings. Location was perfect - close to beaches, restaurants and grocery stores. While you can walk to the beach, the walk back is quite steep. Would definitely recommend a car to get around the island. We rented a car from Sunny Car Rentals and the car was almost brand new with A/C. Lillian, the property manager, was always available if you needed help or had any questions. The house did not have Wi-Fi, but if you sat on the patio, you could connect. Our vacation was fantastic and we can't wait to return again. We will definitely stay in this house. Adam, thank you for sharing your home with us! Debbie & Kelly
