Overview

About the property

House, 1 Bedroom + Sleeping Porch, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 2-4)

Property Name - Bayside Cottage

A romantic get away is waiting for you on the waters edge. Come and enjoy this unique 1 bedroom that is perfect for couples or a small family. The cottage is located down on the edge of the lake and you will need to walk down the stairs to get there. It is not too bad, but if you have trouble managing stairs, you may want to rethink this location. Once your there you can tuck your self into your cozy double bed while the kids are sleeping on the pull out sofa in the living room. The beautifully appointed deck over hangs the water and is the perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee or relax in the evening while the sun goes down. Fish from the deck or just watch the bobbers bounce from the sofa and then just reel them in! You will enjoy the BBQ grill that sits near by and can cook that meal right there. If you get too hot, just wade into the water on the stone steps that lead you right into the lake.

The new screened in porch outfitted with a wood burning fireplace and 50' monitor will provide a private place for you or the kids to watch that football game. The porch has its own separate entrance and is not connected to the doorway of the main little cottage, but is only two steps away. Enjoy the outdoor speakers as they play from your iPod over the lake while you dance under the stars. Wash the lake away in the Japanese shower room before settling down for dinner. It is all there and a perfect romantic spot right on the water.

If you ever decide to leave, there is always historic Hot Springs with the bathhouses, spas and live music at the Arlington Hotel downtown. The casino is open year round and the horse racing season starts in January. There are rivers all around and canoe rental trips are always a family favorite. Party barges can be rented on the lake and there are many float up restaurants that are wonderful.

For larger groups we have a larger property available at VRBO #312624.

The best deck ever!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the cottage on the water. It was cozy and private. Close enough to town but seems like your in the woods. We will be back.

70th birthday celebration for my husband

  • 3 of 5

Since we had also rented the main property up above which was filled with more of our family, the little cabin seemed to be the ideal place for 3 members which could not fit into the main home for sleeping. While I realize this is a cabin, not a home, the shuttered porch area is not conducive to sleeping primarily because of the multi-piece sectional separating from it's neighbor piece. The cylinder of the glass storm door of the screened porch area would not lock in place, thus the door would not remain in the closed position. This was reported to the property manager and she assured me that maintenance would be notified. The main part of the cabin did have a very nice updated shower and a cozy bed. The sitting area of the main part of the cabin would also not be conducive to a good night's rest. I understand future upgrades are planned which will add more appeal to the cabin. The quaint cabin's best feature is that you are right on the water's edge, so the gentle lapping of the water is relaxing and peaceful.

Great location, right on the water!

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful setting and couldn't get closer to the water! Only reason for not rating with 5 stars is the screened in porch was very hot and the tv did not give any local stations or espn and a lot of college football games were missed. We were able to watch a game in the actual cottage but the score couldn't be seen because the tv is so small. I also was unable to connect with the wifi there. Kept telling me incorrect password so I just used my own cell usage throughout the weekend. Other than this, it was great. It was quiet and relaxing. The bed and pillows were super comfortable! I also loved the fact that I was able to bring my dog. I don't travel anywhere without her and she loved it too! It was perfect for our romantic get away and we would definitely come back but maybe not during football season when we aren't wanting to watch big games at night. :)

Owner's Response: Ashley, We are so sorry that you could not pull up the local TV stations in the porch area. I wish you had called our property manager as we have a stereo guy on call to help with any connectivity issues with the TV's. I have called Dish network and the stereo technician. We do have ESPN at the cottage on channels 144,143,142,141 and 140. We did not have local channels during your stay, but have added them to our package and they will be there from now on. The password is listed not only in the book, but also is on the bottom of the unit for the wifi. Again, if you have issues connecting, please call our property manager so that we can try and get that resolved. We pay a lot of money to provide this service and want it to work for all our guests. We hope you will come back and stay with us again in the future. We are in the process of completely remodeling the cottage bathroom. All the best, Cheryl

Mother/Daughter Trip

  • 2 of 5

This was a mother/daughter trip. Was disappointed in our overall trip to Hot Spings. 3 best things about trip was 1. Spending time w/daughter- 2. Quapaw BathHouse (had a complete spa day- that was GREAT) 3. Several good shops on the strip. Ok maybe 4 (lol) The PanCake House on the strip OMG -hand squeezed OJ & pancakes melt in mouth !!! I booked this little cottage hoping to have a full day on the water- floating & relaxing. First ... Had a hard time finding this place (directions could be more clear) then there were 50 steps you have to climb up & down to get to the cottage. Getting the door to unlock was not an easy task either - once again directions not clear. Upon entering in the cottage- it was Hot! The cottage is ran down BAD! It was clean I guess- for most part. It definitely needs some attention- cracks in the shower- caulking is completely out, bathroom sink needs caulked, and someone has put a pretty good size dent in wall in the bedroom (under AC) cob webs in window seals & the deck was full of cob webs & spiders, and outdoor furniture appeared to have animal hair all over it. The water was just not clean looking to us & we chose not to get in it.

Now after reading my review you might say I'm picky - YES I am - I own cabins in Oklahoma & we also have a home we advertise through VRBO- I guess I have higher expectations. I expect to receive what I provide for my guest. I've been in the cabin business for over 10 years - we take pride in what we do - if it's broke repair it or replace it. Make it presentable. We want our guest to feel right at home the minute they open the door. The AC or Heat will be on (depending on season) This is the first time I've personally used VRBO to book a vacation - kinda disappointed in what we got. This little cottage has GREAT potential just really needs to be takin care of - the scenery is very nice, very peaceful for sure! Cheryl was kind by letting us take the little paddle boat for a ride- that was nice- to see all the homes from a different angle. (This was the only time we approached the water) idk if it was just the time of year maybe water levels low , but did not swim at all. I understand this is out of the hands of the owner, can't control Mother Nature. One last thing - beware owners do have a large German Shepard- scared my daughter to death . She went to car & it met her- barking & hair raised - Cheryl's husband called for the dog - all was good but she was glad he was out there.

Owner's Response: Kelly, I think it is only fair to mention that your original request for the cottage was for a free stay to trade with your cottages on the red river near the casino in Oklahoma. I looked at your rentals and they just did not offer anything that we would want to stay in, so we declined to give you a free stay. The cottage is down some steps with 4 landings. We have not had other renters that complained about the directions either to the cottage or being able to enter the house with the instructions. I do take responsibility for not turning on your air conditioners. That is a brain cramp on my part. We try to sweep off the spider webs at every cleaning, but as you can imagine they are very industrious and reweb nightly. My property manager and I have discussed the cob webs on the window seal and the cleaning service is now focused on that and the cleaning of the outdoor furniture. We also let you check in 4 hours early so you could enjoy the lake longer which is not our policy and we let you use the canoe. We put pea gravel on the bottom of the areas when the lake is drawn down in the winter so that your not walking on mud when you enter. Lake Hamilton is a very very clean lake and I know that I could see the bottom since I was there at the same time as your stay. Yes, this is a cottage. We have not redone the interior of the main area. We have replaced furniture, bedding and linens and new stainless refrigerator. We have a blow up mattress with very nice linens to go with it. Our plan is to update this cottage once we get our three kids out of college. Also the pictures of the interior of the cottage exactly reflect what is inside. Don't even know if you went in the new screened in porch? Completely New! We do try our best to make sure the place is clean and functional. We have been too busy with renting it to repair the dent in the wall or remove the tub and install a shower only. This will happen in December and January. Updating is a process. We have learned that we cannot please everyone all the time, but we really do try. One person will love love it and the next will notice anything that may not be exactly perfect. Such is life. The sad thing is when we do remodel the cottage, the price will increase which will take a lot of renters out of the market for this place. Oh, and our dog. Yes, he barked and sorry he scared your daughter. He really is a big baby. We normally are not there when the place is rented, so that was rare.

Location is lovely, cottage not so much

  • 2 of 5

We found the waterfront setting to be a delight, but surprised at the condition of the cottage. I understand a place that is old and in need of some freshening up, but unfortunately this place was that and more. There were cobwebs along the air conditioning unit in the bedroom and both units had an old, musty smell when turned on. On closer inspection it looked as though the filters had never been cleaned, or replaced. The shower insert had a large split along the inside corner, appeared as though a patch had been attempted with some kind of caulk, as well as a crack in the tub bottom. The shower curtain looked as though it hadn't been washed in a really long time. The overall lack of cleanliness made us uncomfortable. We knew that the cottage had stairs down to the waterfront, but didn't appreciate how many stairs there were to navigate carrying our supplies down and then back up. Also, the lights on the stairs were burned out, except 1 or 2, which made it challenging to go and and down after dark. We assumed that someone would do a "make-ready" before we arrived, sweeping off the dock of cobwebs, freshening the cottage, etc., but we didn't find it to be so.

Also, be aware that the water front space is shared space with the main house on the upper level, we spent Friday evening with a group of guys who arrived for a weekend bachelor party. Awkward.

This place has lots of potential, and perhaps the owner has not been there in a while. Don't expect we would rent this property again.
