About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 4 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Just blocks from Washington & Lee University and Virginia Military Institute, historic Middleton House offers privacy and seclusion in the heart of picturesque downtown Lexington. This handsome residence, with extensive fenced gardens, combines period taste--including antiques, art, and original c.1840 colors--with modern comfort. A sunny sitting room, generous dining room, and eat-in kitchen overlooking the garden provide an ideal setting for relaxing and entertaining. Bedrooms have excellent mattresses, high-quality linens, and their own bathrooms.

Without getting in a car, guests enjoy cooking locally grown foods from the Lexington Farmer's Market down the street, shopping in Lexington's vibrant downtown, walking the beautiful Woods Creek Trail nearby, and lounging on the wide screened porch. Middleton House is the perfect place for a get-away vacation, a party, a wedding reception, or a reunion. For comments from the Middleton House guestbook, please see our posted reviews.

Perfect house for a visit to Lexington

  • 5 of 5

The house was spacious, updated, clean, and overall perfect. We had an amazing stay and would definitely stay here again when we make it back to Lexington!

Warm and welcoming

  • 5 of 5

Each year a group of us return to W&L to catch a game and catch up on life. Usually we rent several hotel rooms- this was so much better! Plenty of space for all of us, beautifully decorated, and a very workable kitchen (stocked with all you need, except regular glasses- but everything tastes better in a wine glass :)

We will definitely return next year!

Perfect house for a group getaway

  • 5 of 5

The pictures somehow don't do this house justice - the interior is beautiful, clean, and welcoming with plenty of room for our group (4 couples). The house is located right in town with most places within walking distance. Peter was a very welcoming host - check in and check out were seamless. Overall the house is a perfect mix of historic charm and modern amenities where it counts (kitchen, bathrooms). Highly recommend!

Beautiful historic home in charming Lexington

  • 5 of 5

This was a fantastic home for our family to celebrate Thanksgiving away from home. We had plenty of space to gather to play games or watch movies, but there was also space to spread out. The kitchen was fantastic, I loved the stove--cooked a perfect turkey! We would love to stay again in the future.

Fantastic home! Great location!

  • 5 of 5

We were in town for a horse show at the Virginia Horse Center -- this house was perfect. Town is so close to the show grounds. House is beautiful. It was so great to come home to and enjoy the quiet backyard. And so many wonderful restaurants within walking distance. I can't wait to come back to the horse show grounds just to stay here.
