About this property

Lodge with Breathtaking View of Georgian Bay and Lacloche Mnts

de la Morandiere Rock, as the property is known, has been in the same family since it was built in the early 1960s. Perched atop a giant granite boulder, the lodge has beautiful and uninterrupted views of the La Cloche Mountains and Georgian Bay. Located just outside the famous boating town of Killarney, the property offers a uniquely beautiful escape. Its proximity to Killarney allows for access to restaurants and other services. Visitors will stay in the main house on the 60 acre property, which also has three other small cabins owned by the same family. Killarney Provincial Park, which is only 5 km away, allows guests to be completely immersed in nature with trails, lakes, camping grounds, and guided trips.
de la Morandiere's natural beauty is enhanced by its quiet location on an inlet of Georgian Bay. The long dock that extends from the property is the perfect place to view a sunset or to sit and observe the wildlife surrounding the house. The lodge offers a relaxing base camp for day trips in the surrounding area. Outside of the main entrance is a gazebo with a gas grill for outdoor dinners, as well as an original totem pole, commissioned when the house was built. A small screened-in porch also allows for bug-free star gazing at night.
The property sits along 2,000 ft. of shoreline, and canoes are available at the small beach just below the lodge. The La Cloche Mountains also provide endless opportunities for hiking and exploring. Whether you're interested in day hiking or overnight backpacking, there are trails for everyone.
The summer of 2011 will be the first summer that the lodge is open to renters. In the past it has remained private, only used by the family. We hope that you come to love and appreciate this spectacular place as much as we have over the past 50 years.
We are closed from Canadian Thanksgiving till Spring
Dogs are most welcome but we ask that you vacuum all furniture and sweep. It takes a lot of extra time and effort (as you know if you own dogs) and we appreciate your kindness.

Great cabin
Unique space! lots of room. great location, right on the water super scenic. loved having the hot tub and fireplace and large space to cook. Very cozy cabin initially pretty cold as we are visiting mid October but heated up pretty well. Some instructions a little unclear, but we managed and Karen and Bob were great help.

Love this cottage
Our third time staying at this spectacular location. We really love this cottage - comfortable, endearingly vintage and a setting that is second to none. Morning coffee at sunrise sitting on the pink granite with the most incredible water view - it's always difficult to leave. Highly recommend. We did have to bring our own toilet paper, paper towels and bed linens - otherwise everything else we needed. A stone's throw from excellent dining at the resorts in Killarney. We'll hope to be back next summer. Thank you, Jonathan.

One of our favorite Ontario Locations
It is a remote location so bring all you will need. Great property and very comfortable for 3 couples. We hiked, we paddled and our friends who were first timers to Killarney loved it. We are returning guests to this location and I almost hate to say to to many good things as it will just make it harder for us to find an opening for our next trip. We did have a chilly week in early Sept. Welcome to the top of Georgian Bay! Thanks Jonathon.

Best of Killarney at your porch
What an awesome place (as long as you are ok with the company of stuffed animals). Situated on the lake facing the La Cloche mountain range, this spacious family lodge is well equipped and the perfect combination of a cottage to ‘stay’ (and explore the lake with the canoe or kayak) and lots of opportunity to ‘do’ things in and around Killarney PP if you feel like it. Thank you for making your old family retreat available to us!

Fantastic location, amazing views, incredible cottage
This is a truly amazing property with everything you need for a wonderful stay and more. Minutes from the provincial park and the town of Killarney. The views from the cottage are truly amazing. The swallows danced on the over the dock in the mornings and the sun set behind the La Cloche Mountains lighting the sky red in the evenings. We kayaked and canoed for kilometres in the sheltered Killarney Bay next to white quartz rock and clear blue water. This is a truly spectacular gem of a spot. We watched the Perseids meteor shower against more stars than you can imagine from the dock and the huge screened in porch; enjoyed the large hot tub after some spectacular hikes, and dining in the screen room cut into the rock. The cottage maintains a rustic eclectic charm that is truly unique and un forgettable. We had a memorable stay and were sorry to have to leave. A beautiful piece of paradise.

SPLENDID FAMILY REUNION
We spent a lovely week at the lodge with our extended family. We all enjoyed the unique decor and looking at the photos of the owners expeditions. All basic necessities were included and met our needs. The kids enjoyed the sauna and the hot tub and we ate many meals in the outside dining shelter. The setting is beautiful with the lodge perched up upon the granite with a beautiful view of the Lacloche mountains in the background. The sunsets were spectacular and the water and dock were great for swimming. The property was easily accessible by car and boat (we docked our cruiser during our stay) which allowed the families the use of the lodge. We enjoyed canoeing and kayaking and hiking in the nearby village. We had a spectacular week together and would recommend the lodge in the future.

A great week!
Our family just spent a week at this wonderful location in the beautiful Killarney hills. The cottage was eclectic and interesting and comfortable with lots of great seating for different activities, which worked well on our one rainy day (great library), big fireplace, a nice big kitchen to cook in, a great sauna, and the loveliest rocks on the way to the dock, where we swam, fished, canoed and paddle boarded. Quite close to Killarney Provincial park for some scenic hiking, and also to the little town of Killarney for fish and chips! This is a superb place to spend a Georgian Bay holiday. We highly recommend it!

Great Place!
Our family of 3 went there and loved it. it is a really interesting cottage at a great location. first of all the location is fantastic....very close to nature....quiet.....beautiful....close to great hikes in Killarney park.....close to town of Killarney with some good food selections..... the cottage is vintage....but very well built and maintained.....with lots of quirky interesting things.....lots of art.....great selection of books....we used sauna and whirlpool on several occasions....back porch was great (fully screened to keep out bugs while you sit out in the night) Bedrooms are good.....but if you are couple that like to sleep together the beds are a bit tight....we were able to fit but it was snug. Also, if you like to sit out on the dock there are not a lot of chairs from which to choose, so you might want to bring your own. That said, we loved our time there and plan to return!

Great Vintage Cottage in Killarney!
My husband and I have been looking for a suitable cottage in Northern Ontario which could be used as a gathering place for our adult children and ourselves in future years. And this cottage definitely fits the bill! The setting is beautiful; it's relatively private, and the cottage is spacious and very clean. It definitely captures a moment in time with its comfortable furnishings, famlly trophies and photographs. As previous reviews have outlined, there are countless opportunities for outdoor adventures in this area...or alternatively, to curl up with a good read from the extensive cottage library. Thank you, Jonathan, for opening up your cottage to strangers...what a perfect way to keep family memories alive...by sharing them in the place they loved!!

A slice of Georgian Bay heaven!
This cottage is simply extraordinary, with the feeling of a cozy, vintage Georgian Bay lodge combined with a rustic grandeur. The setting is beautiful - private, beautiful views over the water, and perched upon huge, weather-smoothed rock. We celebrated an "all girls" vacation with 4 women for a week in June, and it was fabulous. The gorgeous lodge interior with beautiful handcrafted log furnishings is a pleasure to experience, and we enjoyed a crackling fire in the huge stone fireplace each evening. Loved cooking together in the big kitchen (stove, fridge and dishwasher were like new), exploring the beautiful grounds, grassy (but very swim-able) beach and dock, and enjoyed early morning canoe paddles followed by coffee sitting outside on the warm rocks. The animal mounts are simply a part of the history of the unique and vibrant family who built the lodge, along with original pieces of art, vintage photos of their travels, and a collection of great books in the living room library. The hot tub is housed in its own amazing room, and relaxing in the impeccably clean tub was such a treat in the evenings. Killarney itself is a treasure - for outdoor enthusiasts (kayaking, canoeing, hiking, fishing) and those who appreciate the association with the Group of Seven and Canadian art. (Check out Pierre Sabourin's beautiful paintings at his Sunset Rock studio in town...) The village is only a few minutes drive, with several nice eating establishments (serving delicious whitefish!) that overlook the water or picturesque harbour filled with boats that have come to sail the North Channel. Our final tally for wildlife viewing during our stay included: a moose, otter, raccoon, many geese with goslings, a variety of ducks, a pair of sandhill cranes (such a treat!), herons, 3 great horned owls, and a black bear (on the road, but not near the cottage!) Our 5 day stay was completely too short, and we will certainly be back. Thank you, Jonathan, for allowing others to spend time in this magical place.

Fall visit to Killarney
Absolutely the most beautiful location. Truly a million dollar view. We had an amazing display of northern lights and the stars were seemingly within reach. The lodge was clean and comfortable but somewhat musty and the kitchen is very dated with no working oven, although the stove top works. The problem was the stuffed trophy animals everywhere. The owners parents were big game hunters and fisherman. The stuffed heads and torsos cover the walls, tables etc. I quickly got used to them and managed to ignore them, but others in my party were quite disturbed by them. They are shown in the pictures of the lodge but the effect in person is more overwhelming. I would return for the view and location but I was the only one out of a group of four who would do so. If the owner sent all the trophies/animal leg lamps etc off to a museum and painted I don't think there is anyone who wouldn't love to stay there. The hiking in the area is fantastic, restaurants are basic but okay.

Excellent family getaway!
We were looking for a place to spend some time together with our adult children...we couldn't have found a better place! The place is magical....the great room where we spent lots of time eating and talking and looking at the magnificent view; the breakfast room where we did puzzles when the weather was bad; and of course the extraordinary surroundings, the rocks and the water. The lodge was equipped with everything, and then some. Loved the library, the art, the screened in porch....and got used to the game trophies. It is close to both Killarney town and park, so we enjoyed the fabulous fish and chips on a Saturday night and the "kids" enjoyed the hikes and canoe trips in the park. Would we recommend it? Absolutely!

A gem in KIllarney
Had a memorable two weeks at the cottage. Loved the excellent location and breathtaking views. The cottage is large and is fully equipped with all the amenities. Feels like a home away from home. We loved to have our meals with the view facing the beautiful bay and LaCloche mountains. At night, we often sat outside and enjoyed the dark sky and bright stars. We had timed our visit to coincide with the Perseids meteor shower which was spectacular to watch.. during the peak we saw a meteor every 2-3 minutes. The cottage is ideally located ..within a 5 minute drive to the town and 5 minutes to the park. We went on some amazing hikes.."The Crack", 'Chikanishing" and "George Island Trail" and also some beautiful canoe rides. It was great to come back in the evening and treat ourselves to the sauna and soak in the hot tub. We had an awesome time and look forward to be back again.

Most memorable experience, just got back and already booking a return stay!
Spectacular view! Loved the cottage, and it's memorabilia, it really amerces you in a bygone era, I wouldent change a thing, its ideal. Great! fully stalked with all you need, comfortable firm beds, lots of room, and privacy. I feal it best suits mature 27 + year old renters, who appreciate frontier culture, art and natural history. Best cottage I ever stayed at, can't wait to return! Tips: Get all your groceries before coming to Killarney, as there are no grocery stores there. Top your fuel up if your car takes premium, before getting near Killarney, as the whole area seems to only have regular gas available. Wifi service available at nearby outfitters. Charter boats with locals, at the docks, best to give them a days notice. Plan scedule to include days for just staying at the cottage with no excursions as it has so much to offer.

What a view!
The mountain and lake views from the great room were fantastic,as the whole wall is windows. The sights on the inside are just as exciting. We spent a lot of time on the dock and in the screened in porch just relaxing. Everything about our trip was terrific for myself and family, we cannot wait to get back again soon. We highly recommend staying here to relax or do some of the spectacular hikes in the area, such as the Crack or Silver Peak.

Unique doesn't begin to describe this amazing place
The moment we pulled in the driveway we knew we were in for a special week. Six of us went for one week in early August and very very pleased with the location and the lodge. You can tell the care, thought and love that went into the place by the owners, so much history. Pictures don't do it justice. Literally only a few minutes to the town of Killarney, and a few kilometers from the Provincial Park. It was an amazing "base camp" for all the activities we did during the week. The hot tub and sauna were most appreciated after a long hike. We can't wait to go back next year

Beautiful Killarney
The lodge met all our needs for this great trip. The location is perfect, overlooking the bay, marshes and the "mountains" (which are more like hills). We really enjoyed the fact that the kitchen adjoined the living area, unusual for an older cabin. The place is full of character with mounted big game trophies on all the walls and lots of original art. My only complaint would be that it is really a one full bath, three half bath arrangement as there is only one shower.

Great house with a view
Our group, senior women, loved the property and the house. We are all nature lovers so the awesome views on the lake were so inspiring. Also some have mobility issues so they were able to enjoy walking around the property while some of us hiked in Killarney park. Highly recommend this place. Would love to come back!
