Sapodilla is a charming stone clad cottage situated in a two acre garden on a hillside overlooking Falmouth & English Harbours. The owner built the original house 48 years ago and Sapodilla is her guest cottage set below the pool in a very private part of the garden. The garden is filled with indigenous trees and flowers with many palms and several fish ponds. The palm fringed pool, set away from the main house offers calm and privacy and lovely views. The garden is filled with birds, especially the three varieties of hummingbirds busy working away at the many flowers. There is a feeder hanging on the veranda for closer observation.
Springhill has 3/4 electricity provided by solar panels, and collects most of its water from rainfall. The pool has a salt water system. Water is also heated by solar power. The cottage has its own Eco garbage and compost buckets, both emptied for you by the maid or the owners.
Maid service is between 2 or 3 times a week by the guest's choice at no extra charge.. We try to live an Eco life and leave few footprints on our beautiful island.
There are wonderful hikes right out of the garden gate. Hiking to Rendezvous Bay is one of Antigua’s five star adventures – from Springhill, you are already en route, and coming home to plunge in the pool and rinse off the salt and grabbing a cold rum punch in your cottage – makes it even more special. The hike takes between 30 – 40 minutes to one of the best beaches in the Caribbean, where you are often the only people on the beach! You can hike further to Carlisle bay or Wallings Dam in the rainforest. The owner can organize guides for these longer hikes.
A top class equestrian centre started by the owner is 3 minutes walk down the hill. The centre offers BHS (British Horse society) instruction and trails around the pretty valley and wild beaches. If you like riding and your partner is a sailor (or would like to learn) this is the ideal spot to stay. The owners are very keen sailors, and would be pleased to help organize this.
It is possible to spend a holiday at Sapodilla without a car, but we would recommend renting one. English Harbour is 7 minutes drive away with all its historical sites, great bars and restaurants, and a stunning beach. There are two good supermarkets nearby. Having a car gives you the freedom to explore the many beautiful beaches, and other hidden treasures. The owners would be pleased to help you with any information.
Previous guests have all loved the peace and tranquility, and yet the nearness of all the life in English and Falmouth Harbours.

The owners are very keen sailors, riders, gardeners and dog lovers. They have lived at Springhill since 1969 and know the island very well, and are delighted to help any guests find their feet with anything they wish to do, whether sailing, riding, hiking, bird watching, etc. etc. or just leave them to sunbathe and enjoy the pool!
Why Owner chose Falmouth Harbour
I sailed into English Harbour, Antigua in 1967 and after sailing up and down the islands there was no choice for me, but making a home here in my favorite island! I built the house in 1069 on a barren hillside with great views and wonderful breezes and my husband and I have enjoyed planting a garden filled with trees.
What makes this Studio unique
Peace, tranquillity, lovely views, great hiking, horseriding just outside garden gate.

Romantic cottage in secret garden
We have just stayed for 10 nights in this cute cottage set hidden away in the owners huge and stunning gardens. Janie has created an amazing space with pathways winding up through trees and flowers from the cottage to a stunning pool area. The cottage is small but perfectly formed for two people with everything you need. It is hard to drag yourself away each morning from the birds and lizards who visit you every day on the lovely veranda. The pool is beautifully laid out with stunning views across the harbour, once again very private. Janie and Geoff are a lovely couple who will happily help with anything you ask. Should we be lucky enough to visit Antigua again we would look forward to coming back to this slice of Paradise. Thank you Janie and Geoff for sharing with us xx
So tranquil, the cottage is perfect for two people. Could not have asked for more.
A dream come true!
The little hideaway cottage was everything and more of what we wanted from our holiday property. Sitting on the balcony listening to and feeding the beautiful birds was amazing. The cottage was just perfect and well thought out, Janie and Geoffrey were fantastic hosts and we would not hesitate in booking again
Thank you for your kind review. I do hope we will see you again on your next sailing holiday!
Lovely Antiguan hideaway
My daughter and I loved our stay at this studio cottage with it's open outside living with nature feel. We enjoyed the daily activities of the hummingbirds, finches and lizards around the verandah and cottage and the endearing flocks of bananaquits hanging haphazardly onto the feeder.
There were an abundance of natural trees and flowers in the gardens and we enjoyed swimming in the wonderful swimming pool, which had fantastic harbour views, a beautiful gazebo and sun loungers. The pool was of a good size and surrounded by a very attractive patio area.
The cottage has a good size comfy bed, plenty of storage, a fantastic outside shower and comes with towels and beach towels. We found everything we needed in the kitchen, and a cool box which we used for picnics on days out to the many beaches. Essentials were left for our arrival and the cottage has a lovely breeze with fans if needed.
No television here as you would expect but the wi-fi worked well.
Lovely discreet owners but there if needed. Janie the owner told us how to make up more sugar syrup for the hummingbird feeder and we had many visits from the friendly well behaved dogs.
We had a rental car and visited many of the beaches. Galleon beach was our favourite as we found and snorkelled the wreck, saw a few good fish and loved snorkelling with the turtles who, as we did not touch them did not worry about us swimming with them. ( For the wreck and turtles walk round to the left, past all the chalets and short path through the trees to the last little sandy beach).
We went horse riding at Springhill and swam with the horses in the sea which we both thought was an excellent experience.
We ate out a few times and also shopped at a few of the supermarkets so we could eat out on the verandah at the cottage.
Not much of a problem with mosquitoes as we used the citronella candles in the evenings and also used eco friendly mossie spray a few times a day which we brought from home. We always use incognito spray when abroad as it works really well and has no toxic chemicals (ordered from Amazon). There is an excellent mosquito net on the bed as well.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would like to visit again with other members of our family.
I am so happy you enjoyed your holiday at Sapodilla Cottage. It was lovely meeting you and your daughter and hope to see you both again one day! We have been having some lovely spring rain showers in the nights and the garden is looking green and pretty again.
Wonderfully comfortable hideaway
We spent 4 wonderful nights at this hideaway property. Very comfortable and well located for English and Falmouth harbour. Rental car recommended. Janie provides helpful information and car rental details.
A very short, but I am glad, sweet few days in Sapodilla Cottage. You had a busy time, with your diving, and I hardly saw you, but am so happy you enjoyed it.
Perhaps we will see you again for a longer stay next time.
Kind regards, Janie
Quiet and private
Sapodilla is a small cottage located in lovely gardens, with views across to Falmouth harbour. We spent 17 nights there and had a wonderful time. On our arrival there were essentials for breakfast, making tea and coffee as well as chilled water in the fridge. Janie gave us a hummingbird feeder and we entertained daily by two types of hummingbird, a nice way to start your day. The covered terrace allows you to sit out even if it rains and provides shade if you find things too warm. The pool was in an elevated location with wonderful views, and a gentle breeze. The large comfy bed, and unique outdoor shower along with very welcoming hosts just added to the whole experience. We loved it.
I am so happy you enjoyed Sapodilla Cottage and our lovely wildlife!
It is always lovely when guests get the same feeling about Springhill as we do!
