From Missoula, drive a short 50 minutes North in to the Flathead Indian Reservation. Crest a hill just outside of Ravalli and be awed by the majestic Mission Mountains. Just a short distance up the valley, heading towards Glacier National Park, you will turn towards the mountains just at Nine Pipes Reservoir. Another 3 miles to go (some on dirt road) before arriving at a sweet, newly remodeled cabin in the woods.
Walk up to a covered porch where later that evening you could charcoal grill your meal. Enter in to the mud room with a custom built bench for slipping your shoes off before entering into the living space with a vaulted ceiling and huge picture windows that look directly at MacDonald Peak and Sheep's Head.
Run through the living area to the bathroom to relieve yourself from the long drive from 'wherever you came from'. Welcome.
The bathroom has a dual flush toilet. Help us conserve water; use the 1/2 flush for #1 and full flush for #2. Don't forget to wash your hands in the small sink undermounted on the custom concrete counter top - ground down to see the aggregate. Wink at yourself in the mirror and head back out to the kitchen.
All kitchen amenities are right at your finger tips. Cook breakfast, fix lunch for your outing and stay in for dinner. While doing the dishes, you can look North towards the Kicking Horse reservoir; looking west enjoy the incredible Big Sky sunsets. Custom cabinetry with concrete counter tops, track lighting and a unique ceiling gives this kitchen a modern feel. A large pantry gives you the opportunity to stay a while without having to take the 9 mile drive in to Ronan for a market run.
Up the spiral stairs to the loft (watch your head, the ceiling is low) where there is a queen size bed with all bedding provided and a small dresser and table space to organize your things. The window facing east gives you incredible views of Mt Calowahcan (formerly Mt. Harding) while looking west you can see the expanse of the Big Sky and watch summer thunder storms roll in.
Sleep well... the design of the home allows for very good temperature regulation and ventilation. Use the ceiling fan to keep the upstairs from getting too hot. Open the windows at night to feel the cool mountain air on your face; close the windows as the Montana sun begins to warm the cabin.
Plan your day over coffee and a little breakfast. Stay close for adventures in the Mission Mountains or head towards Flathead Lake for water sports galore. Further north you arrive at one of America's treasures - Glacier National Park.
We hope you enjoy your stay. Welcome to your cabin in the woods.

I am a Montana native. This house has been a true labor of love. My extended family owns and operates the Cheff Guest ranch, just 2 miles from here. Working and living at the ranch over the years has been a gift. I love the outdoors and have spent many hours in the Mission mountains, the Bob Marshall Wilderness and beyond. I own a sustainable building construction company in Spokane, WA. I have a wonderful wife and a great dog. We love to travel (especially in our newly renovated 1960 Shasta camper) and enjoy most outdoor activities including skiing, snowboarding, biking and hiking. We hope you enjoy our home.
I grew up here on this property but now work and live in Spokane, WA. We want to share this magical place with others. While it is close to Ronan, MT (9mi);, Flathead Lake (15mi), Missoula (50mi) and Glacier National Park (100mi) it is in the heart of Big Sky Country and the natural beauty of Montana.
Our house has been completely renovated over several years. We have re-purposed two buildings from a former structure and have used sustainable, locally sourced materials (when possible) and environmentally friendly finishes. The house is nestled in the beautiful Mission Valley on 10 acres. Though close to the amenities of town, it is an outdoor enthusiasts paradise. It is adjacent to Kicking Horse bird refuge and is within 2 miles of Nine Pipes Wildlife Bird Refuge. Within minutes you can be at one of the many trailheads heading into the magnificent Mission Mountain Wilderness. Just 11 miles away is the National Bison Range (one of the oldest wildlife refuges in the country)
We had an absolutely wonderful stay in this well kept, cozy cabin. Everything we needed was provided - including deer in the yard each morning! We were in the area to visit family for the holidays, and we spent one day playing in the snow in the yard. Can't wait to come back next summer!
What an awesome place to stay in the Mission Valley, Kicking Horse,Charlo, Ronan area. This cabin is well thought out for travelers wanting to get a real taste of Montana and mountain, range, and cabin living with all the amenities, including Wi-Fi, laundry, good heat, and many others. The owner contacted us before to make sure we had everything we needed and our stay would be the best it could be. The style is clean and had a unique and cool design including bike gears in the concrete counter top and cool wood flooring and walls. But to to it off, the property had views of neighboring horses, deer, and great mountain views. A quick trip to the nearby Cheff Ranch to ride horses and talk with the family there seals the deal. Hopefully I'll be able to come back another time soon!
I had the pleasure of staying in this home from July 13th-22, 2016. The location was secluded so not much traffic in and around. The home was as described - very nice and stocked with all the essentials. I especially liked that there were three types of coffee pots! French press anyone? The views were splendid - the living room had beautiful windows which opened out on to the mountain range. I spent most of my days just looking out on the beauty around me. The home was very comfortable temperature wise. An added bonus was the hummingbird feeders which the owner had placed out the kitchen and living room windows. He also had sugar water in the fridge. It was heavenly to watch them every day as they came for their meals. I was a solo traveler so there was plenty of room for me. I could see that the futon and couch would also provide sleeping arrangements for many more. It is in close proximity to a lot - an hour to Missoula, 20 minutes to Polson, 1-1/2 hours to Glacier. I even drove to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho one day which was a nice drive. Lots of restaurants and shopping in close range too. I hope to make it back next summer. Thanks again for a very pleasant vacation!
The cabin itself was great for our needs- family of 4, including 2 kids under the age of 8. We were in town for a graduation, and local family members literally were busting at the seams. We knew we didn't want the hotel route. It had all we requires, which was a place to get some rest between family festivities.
My boys enjoyed seeing the wildlife from the family room windows each morning. We saw a herd of deer each day, and it was wonderful to see them less than 20 feet from the house.
My only suggestion would be to cut the grass. In fairness, it's still only June, and this would probably be the first round of mowing for the summer.
Awesome place to stay.My family went when it was around 100 degrees. We had people over and had BBQ's each night. Saw a black bear and her cubs, wild turkeys, and so many deer. Quiet, peaceful, and all the comforts of home. Easy to find and close to grocery store and everything!
Overall, the cabin fit all of our needs. The setting was very picturesque, quiet and private. The physical cabin was thoughtfully laid out. It had ample space for my son and I, as well as a fully equipped kitchen. The location is about an hour north of Missoula, 20 minutes south of Polson and 2 hours south of Glacier N.P.. During our stay, at the end of July 2015, the weather was actually cooler than normal, so the cabin temperature was comfortable. Would definitely recommend, and would rent again if I should visit the area again!
