About the property

Villa, 3 Bedrooms, 3.5 Baths (Sleeps 6), with exclusive use of boat and car.

The VILLA OASIS - Great Camanoe Island, British Virgin Islands. A tropical villa with 3 Bedrooms (Sleeps 6) each with en suite bath (total 3.5 baths), and your exclusive use of BOAT and CAR.

The Villa Oasis - situated only 100 feet above the water - high enough to command the "Most beautiful views in the Caribbean,” yet close enough to stroll to the water's edge at the end of your driveway and enjoy the serene beach, private boat dock and clear, turquoise bay. All rooms have sea views. No traffic, and no need to drive to get to the water - but a 4-wheel drive Honda CRV (jeep-type) automatic comes with the house, just in case you desire it.*

Learn more about The Villa Oasis by visiting our own domain site: TheVillaOasis (dot) net.

From your private base at The Villa Oasis, explore our surrounding seas; discover pristine beaches, intimate views and the adventure of the tropics, or just spend the afternoon in the sun. And get reacquainted with life’s simple pleasures.

Play on soft, white sand under the shade of palm trees, collect unique sea shells, watch tropical fish from the dock as pelicans dive for their dinner, dine on the terrace with a view of seven islands, admire boats of all types sailing into the protected bay, and visit with cruising mariners from far away ports. Motorboat to small restaurants & beachfront bars – drift thru art & craft galleries - shop for tropical apparel & gifts. Join the nightlife, sing to live music played frequently at nearby Marina Cay (Pusser’s Hotel & Bar), Bellamy Cay (The Last Resort), Scrub Island Resort & Spa, or Trellis Bay (De Loose Mongoose). Boat across the bay to the Baths at Virgin Gorda - sail, swim, snorkel, dive & fish in your front yard, or just watch it all from the comfort of your own tropical villa.

An 18 foot motorboat with Bimini top, private dock space, and a private mooring ball for larger boats are all part of your luxury at The Villa Oasis.* Kite & windsurfing boards and fishing equipment are for rent at nearby Trellis Bay. Deep sea fishing expeditions, bareboat or crewed boat charters may be arranged with Villa Oasis bookings or independently. Beach-side bars, restaurants, gift shops and a small grocery store are a short boat-ride away.

All rooms, including bedrooms, have water views. Master bedroom has king size bed; the two other bedrooms each have queen beds. Each bedroom has its own bath & shower, air conditioning and ceiling fan, while the south-eastern exposure catches cooling trade winds that make A/C typically unnecessary. An idyllic location, only a 5 minute boat ride to the airport, yet The Villa Oasis does not overlook the airport and does not face the development on Scrub Island. Accessible to everything in the BVI, but a world apart from the noise and hassle of Tortola. Upon arrival at Tortola Airport (Beef Island- EIS), there is no need for a taxi. Just walk east about 100 meters to the boat dock in front of the quaint Trellis Bay Market for your scheduled transport to The Villa Oasis.

* Please Note: Experience with and knowledge of basic, small power boat handling is absolutely required of at lest one person in each party.

Great Camanoe, a relatively small, privately owned island about 2.5 miles long and a half mile to a mile wide, is widely considered one of the most beautiful islands in the Virgin Islands archipelago. It has various small bays, coves and beaches, and lies just 2 miles northeast of Tortola (and the airport), the capital and largest island of the British Virgin Islands. Great Camanoe is located between the sister islands of Tortola, Beef Island, Little Camanoe, Scrub Island , Marina Cay and Virgin Gorda. It has only about 40 seasonal residences. The inhabited portion of Great Camanoe is divided into two residential communities: Privateers Bay, nestled between the beaches and hills on the less developed national park side of the island, and the more densely developed Indigo Plantation, on the western side of the island facing Tortola Airport. Both communities sit on the southern half of Camanoe Island, with the larger northern half of the island being completely undeveloped. Access to the island is by private boat only. If you don't want to take the Villa's boat yourself to Virgin Gorda or other more distant locations, you can catch commercial ferry boats that leave daily from Trellis Bay.

While Great Camanoe provides romance & tranquility, the nearby environs offer a whirl of adventure, excitement and pleasure:

- Marina Cay, a flower covered island ringed by white sand beaches is just about swimming distance from The Villa Oasis. Here you'll find the famous Pusser's bar & restaurant, and a not-to-be missed Caribbean style lunch and dinner experience. Evening music & entertainment at the bar on the top of the island, fantastic beach for swimming & diving. And the unique Pusser's Store offers tropical apparel & nautical gifts.

- Mainsail resort, spa & marina on Scrub Island is 2-3 minutes from the Villa Oasis dock. Amenities include:

• Bar & Fine Restaurant • Swimming Pool / Spa & Fitness Center

• Boat Rentals • Excursions: deep-sea fishing; snorkeling, SCUBA

• Yacht Charters • Retail Shops

- The last resort on Bellamy Cay in Trellis Bay, 3 minutes from The Villa Oasis. Memorable dinner theater & cabaret; small fun bar. What a gem!

- The Lose Mongoose. Fun BVI beachfront bar & restaurant on shore of nearby Trellis Bay.

The British Virgin Islands

The British Virgin Islands (BVI), awarded by Caribbean Travel & Leisure Magazine as the 'Best of the Caribbean,' is comprised of about 60 tropical Caribbean islands. The BVI is located in the Virgin Islands archipelago, just a few miles east of the U.S. Virgin Islands and 60 miles east of Puerto Rico. Most of the BVIs are volcanic in origin, have rugged mountainous terrain, and afford magnificent sea views. Only about 15 of these islands are inhabited. Secluded coves and bays abound, and many islands have spectacular beaches.

Rates for Peak Season (DEC - APR) and Value Season (MAY -NOV) are based on the total number of people, including children (except children under 2 yrs old are free). Rates shown are based on two (2) people. For additional people, add $29 per night per person. A $300.00 (three hundred) REFUNDABLE damage deposit, due at time of booking, is separate from the total rent amount.

About James McGunn

We are an American couple from northern California and New York; and have lived in various countries, including Canada, Singapore, Germany, Ireland and the British Virgin Islands. Of all the places in the world, we found The Villa Oasis on Great Camanoe Island has a near perfect balance of everything one would seek in a tropical environment: convenient to the mainland US, the US Virgin Islands & Puerto Rico, superb climate, unbeatable sailing and boating, clean air, clear water, spectacular scenery, US currency & time zone, and a safe environment.

James McGunn purchased this villa in 2005

Why James McGunn chose British Virgin Islands BVI

As a consequence of moving a business from Europe to Tortola in 2005, we searched the entire BVI for the perfect island home: a private & safe location, beautiful views of the sea, walking distance to a sandy beach and private boat dock. Moreover, we wanted a home that faced the easterly trade winds. Nothing met our criteria (many sites had great views but were located way too far from the water, others lacked easy access to a boat dock, beaches and swimming areas, or had not so pleasant orientations). Finally, we found The Villa Oasis - it exceeded our expectations and had everything we were searching for, and right at the end of its driveway. After residing here for six years, the BVI will now become our part-time residence, so we are letting out the estate for others to enjoy when we are away.

What makes this villa unique

Situated on a unique private island in the center of a sea of islands.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We couldn’t have chosen a more beautiful place to stay in the tropics. The Villa Oasis is classic Caribbean: casual, unpretentious, comfortable. Large windows on opposing walls catch ocean breezes and provide stunning sea views from every room. We’ve traveled to many resort destinations and can honestly say we have never seen a more spectacular marine view, or found a more delightful place to play. Islands, beaches, boats bobbing in a bay, and living coral reefs – everything is here for those who love water sports. We walked from the Villa down to the private beach each day, and also took a few treks around the island and found differing sea views, each gorgeous in its own special way. We discovered private coves and beaches, snorkeled, took up Scuba diving again, and explored other nearby islands with the Villa’s very nice power boat. Of course, we’ll be back. We’ll definitely be back.

Great house with view

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay. The house Is well equipped and has very private like suites for 6 people. The Ac's did keep bedrooms cold at night, there is no ac in main section of house but we only spent time in the kitchen and ate all meals outside on the porch with a breeze and great view of scrub and marina cay. The boat allowed us to venture to many neighboring islands comfortably with four people. Six people would have been tight on the buckaroo due to how rough the seas are in this area. Out lowest day was 4' highest was 7-8 foot seas. We are boat people and this was pretty rough and we had to stay close to home on the higher days. We did a grocery order online ahead of time with riteway and they delivered to us at trellis bay. There is also a market for groceries at trellis bay and at scrub marina just across the way. We cooked most breakfast and dinners at the house and found the kitchen to be decently stocked with cookware etc. husband did say the grill could use some attention/ replacing as one the burners was melted out but we made do. I highly recommend snorkeling diamond reef just in front of camanoe. Also checking out the great bays on backside of camanoe, little cam, and guana. They are all close. We did use the house car to drive down the hill with stuff for the boat for the day and it worked well. Carlos was around if we needed him. Overall a great stay, nice house, and good views with great central location for island hopping.

Owner's Response: We much appreciate the great review and only regret the weather had not been better. The typical forecast for trips to the British Virgin Islands: sunny, 83 degrees F (28C) with ocean water that's delightfully warm and a little salty. You’ll glide across calm, teal-blue seas under bright sun, blue sky and puffy white clouds that drift by on a warm breeze. Well, that’s not ALWAYS the reality. Windy conditions in the tropics come and go. And strong winds enhance wave heights across the Atlantic and, to a lesser extent, the Caribbean coasts of the local islands. High winds and waves are loved by surfers, but rough seas are generally unpleasant for boating outside of protected waters. We wish we could accurately forecast the changeable sea conditions and suggest travel accordingly, but predicting natural conditions remains a challenge.

The Villa Oasis is located on Great Camanoe, a private island paradise centered in a sea of islands and within 5 minutes by boat from Trellis Bay, Tortola. The sea views from the terrace (and from every room in the house) are exceptional - probably the most breathtaking in the entire Caribbean. There, I said it! And it's true. The actual setting is even more spectacular than the pictures can show. Day or night, the sights of yachts swinging at anchor or sailing through the strait, the little resort island of Marina Cay in your front yard, and the backdrop of green islands in a turquoise sea under a blue sky are stunning. The entire island of Great Camanoe is lovely and offers energetic walkers the most memorable sights of pristine bays and secluded coves. Best of all, the Villa comes with a wonderful power boat that enables you to sail about the nearby islands, snorkel over Diamond Reef just off Camanoe, stop for lunch at Marina Cay, have drinks at Scrub Island Resort, or dine along Trellis Bay or at The Last Resort on Bellamy Cay. Truly an adventure of a lifetime. The house is very relaxing and provides all the things most visitors want: very well furnished, good kitchen appliances, air con in the bedrooms, and just high enough above the water to catch the gentle tropical breezes. The Villa's Honda CRV is there if you want it for driving up and down the steep driveway to the beach and boat dock. We lived the dream and will return.

Great House with a Boat!

  • 5 of 5

The house was very nice, great views & the AC in the bedrooms worked great. Having a boat included was an added bonus & we used it to go to Virgin Gorda, Jost, Norman Island & several other places. I would definitely stay here again.

Secluded but accessible Paradise

  • 5 of 5

The Villas Oasis has a million dollar view and all the amenities needed for someone that is looking for a private retreat. The house is well appointed and spacious with 3 bedrooms each with their own bathrooms. We had a few utility glitches with WIFI and plumbing, but the owner James was very attentive to rectify the issues promptly and Carlos the house manager was accessible when you needed him. Good customer service goes a long way. Thank you!

Use of the “Buckaroo” made this stay perfect for our family’s adventurous spirit. Each day was a new experience with day trips to The Baths, snorkeling the Spring Bay rock areas just north of the Baths, Cooper Island’s Cistern Pt, Salt Island’s RMS Wreck of the Rhone, and Gauna Islands Monkey Pt. Some of our favorite private beach spots were Guana Island’s White Bay Beach and Tortola’s Josiah Bay. Josiah Bay is known as a surf beach but during the summer it is a perfectly calm bay and has a beach bar. We had the entire beach and bartender to ourselves on one of the prettiest beaches we found.

Since our trip was in the summer with ESE winds, we found that going around the northern side of Tortola was calmer than the southern side. This was opposite of what all the locals were telling me as it must be different during the on season winter months. Be sure to follow the weather and pick days when the winds are down to make the Sir Francis Drake Channel crossings. Most days were 13- 18 during our stay which made the trips manageable and staying on the leeward side of islands maximized traveling in calmer waters. The boat was reliable and capable of handling some small choppy waters and the new Yamaha 115 four stoke was fuel efficient and gave us confidence to take on these trips.

Even though the house is remote, there are plenty of dining options to choose from. From dressy nights out at Scrub Island Resort, casual dining with the cruising boat folks at Marina Cay, to local flair at Trellis Bay. We ate twice at each of these spots and enjoyed all our meals. We enjoyed the live music from the Marina Cay bar as we would relax on our porch after our day excursions. Ian plays there Mon-Thurs nights. We had a blast on final night as we went over to listen to him live.

This was a trip of a lifetime for my family, but we certainly can’t wait to get back.

Off the grid, relaxing getaway with breathtaking scenery

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Villa Oasis in June 2017 with 2 adults and 3 boys aged 15, 13, 11. This is the perfect house, boat, and location for a quiet, connected family vacation. We would be up by 7 am; boating, diving, swimming and in bed by 10 pm. Kitchen is well stocked with all that is needed to cook great meals. We rented a car for 24 hours when we flew in and shopped at the main grocery store in Tortola - good steaks, frozen crab cakes - 2 good restaurants within a 5 minute boat ride. A top diving reef - Diamond Reef - right outside the dock where we saw sea turtles, 2 small sharks, a sand dollar, a barracuda, etc. Safe, pretty swimming.

Our boys took the SSi dive certification course prior to the vacation and then were certified on their dives through the Dive BVI on Scrub Island.

We loved it - well kept, clean, beautiful home - easy to work with owners - can't wait to go back!

Perfect house setup for a family and great boat!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Villa Oasis was impeccable in every way! The setup of the house was perfect for my wife and I and our three kids. Since each bedroom has its own bathroom and the two bedrooms for the kids are separate from the Master bedroom it gave us the perfect amount of solitude from the children at night. The island is so quiet and separate from civilization that you feel like you are really away from reality during your stay. The view from the house gorgeous and entertaining as you watch all the boats come and go each day. The Buckaroo II is a perfect boat to day trip through the island and snorkel spots. Also, you have Diamond reef 100 yards from the dock! We enjoyed being close to the Scrub Island Resort, which we used a couple time during our stay, and having Pusser’s Restaurant so close for excellent dinners! We cannot say enough positive things about the house, the boat, and the owner. Everything you need is in the house and being on such a remote island was a joy!
