Walk or Snorkel To 6 Beaches & The Baths

Bedrooms 3
Space 2,000 sq. ft.
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 1 - 10 nights

About the property

2 bedroom, 2 bath, 1,000 sq ft deck, tropical living, water and sunset views

GREETINGS FROM POST HURRICANES IRMA AND MARIA. The beaches are still beautiful though may be as deserted as decades ago due to lack of accommodations. Virgin Gorda's residents are as vibrant as ever and happy to be alive following the worst storm in living memory. Indeed, everyone feels blessed. Three restaurants were reopened by the first of November with the rest shooting for between the first of December and New Year's Eve.

Crosswinds Villa is now a two bedroom villa. The garden level is occupied by the owners as was the case for decades until a few years ago. Most of our prime winter spots are also available for the first time in years as we returned all deposits immediately after the enormity of Hurricane Irma became apparent. Somehow Crosswinds withstood the storm to an inexplicable degree. Of course all our guests rebooked in locales far from the path or the storms though expect to return. Take advantage of our now even more quiet island. You will be most warmly welcomed.

On land littered with elephantine boulders, rustling palm trees and glorious gardens, Crosswinds Villa is a fully furnished, three bedroom escape just a four minute walk from the beach at Spring Bay.  With daily maid service, all you need do is relax and enjoy the views of Sir Francis Drake Channel from the 1,000 Sq. foot deck, or bathe in crystal blue green water at the white sand beaches of Spring Bay, Spring Bay National Park, Little Trunk Bay, Valley Trunk Bay, The Baths and Devil's Bay.....all within walking or snorkeling distance.

The 1,000 Sq. ft. deck is Caribbean living at its best.  Partially covered, affording lots of sun and shade places, the west facing deck is furnished with living room furniture, dining table for 6-10, a large gas grill, chaise lounges, rocking chairs and a spacious hammock.  It is all surrounded by potted plants, lush gardens, coconut palm trees, panoramic views, spectacular sunsets, and privacy

Built across the prevailing tradewinds, Crosswinds Villa enjoys natural air conditioning regulated by ample louvered windows on all sides of the house.  The cathedral ceilings add to an especially airy feeling. The center of the 1,600 square foot villa is an open living/kitchen/dining area, while two of the en suite bedrooms are located at opposite ends of the house.  A 14' opening to the 1,000 square foot deck pleasantly blurs the lines between inside and outside.

The two upstairs bedrooms have screened, louvered windows on 3 sides, allowing these rooms to take full advantage of the Caribbean Tradewinds, rustling palms and balmy nights.  Each has its own bathroom with oversize shower, as well as plenty of closet and shelf space.  One room has a large table and both modem and WiFi connections for those not able to leave the laptop at home. The other has a chair and ottoman for those who can!   The tiled bathrooms are difficult to photograph without knocking a wall down but both are of an appropriate size, have modern fixtures and are as clean as a whistle.

The newly renovated garden level apartment has a queen size bed in a large ensuite bedroom, an open galley kitchen, living and dining area opening to a private patio filled with potted tropical plants, market umbrellas and privacy. Like the upstairs main living area, this private apartment features louvered windows through out, cross breezes, cathedral ceilings, ceiling fans and lush tropical manicured gardens outside every window. This area offers privacy and comfort for the multi generational family, or simply three couples traveling together.

About Chip McLaughlin

Life long New Englanders and world travelers, we split our time between the coast of Rhode Island and Virgin Gorda, as well as hoping to discover one new destination each year. We chose to spend five months a year in Virgin Gorda after experiencing the perfectly warm water, clean uncrowded beaches, great snorkeling, personal safety and a welcoming local population. Virgin Gorda is constantly improving both through government guidance and visitors appreciation of it's unique benefits. Virgin Gorda has ended our search for the best place to spend every winter.

Chip McLaughlin purchased this villa in 2000

Why Chip McLaughlin chose Virgin Gorda

We purchased our home in Virgin Gorda after vacationing here for nine consecutive years. Crosswinds was originally a 1600 foot house with a rental of 1,000 sq ft on the second floor with a small wooden deck. We added a 1,000 square foot deck to the second floor with equal amounts of covered and sun filled spaces. The experience of renting led us to create the vacation rental we always wanted, from an over equipped kitchen to upscale furnishings, an outdoor living and dining room, lots of potted tropical plants, a great gas grill and a large Brookstone hammock for reading! We wanted a place we would live in full time, a place that is truly a home and not a place that felt like a business. Add to this, Crosswinds is in a private enclave of 11 homes, the third house back from Spring Bay, adjacent to two national parks, within walking distance of six beaches including The Baths and Devil's Bay. The other beaches are very quiet and nearly private. The beaches are clean, the sand is white and granular, the water is crystal clear and always refreshing and warm. Given the tiny population and stable, well run government your personal safety is unmatched in the Caribbean. So stroll about, to beaches, beach bars, local and tourist restaurants. Live unguarded and have fun!

What makes this villa unique

Everything in Virgin Gorda revolves around the water and beaches. Leave the golf clubs home and forget about gambling. Plan on snorkeling and relaxing by the water all day. There are ample opportunities to explore other islands for the day or half the day on a variety of sail and motor boats. Rent a car and explore a large number of beaches, snorkeling spots, hiking and natural beauty. Take advantage of the high end spas and resorts though you will then be glad you have Spring Bay and her sunsets to return to.

We live next door to Crosswinds and are ready to help in any way we can. We can also leave you completely to yourself if that is exactly what you need. That being said, we are happy to purchase your first mornings breakfast foods, make recommendations and reservations for your arrival night's dinner and provide provision companies for larger food orders. We are also able to refer reliable rental auto websites who will meet you at the dock or airport.

Awesome house, awesome views, awesome hosts.

Our first stay at Crosswinds. Hurricane Irma brought us here, another of her odd twists of fate. It is a beautiful house, aptly named for the lovely breezes. It really is an awesome house, with very nice decorations throughout, and a well-equipped kitchen suitable for gourmet meals, along with a multi-acre estate with diverse plantings, and beautiful views of the Sir Francis Drake passage and sunsets. It is but a short walk to the wondrous beaches. The owners Chip and Keith are very attentive and helpful. We hope to come again.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much. Meeting you and your family was a pleasure. I think VRBO is starting a guest rating so we return the five stars if possible! C&K

Chip & Keith came to our rescue at very short notice after our previous villa had fallen through. They put our minds at ease with friendly chatter and an ice cold drink. The villa exceeded all our expectations.....AND we have high expectations from working on superyachts! The property is beautiful and so close to the beach AND what a breathtakingly beautiful beach it was. The location of the property also couldn't be more convenient for the restaurants and supermarkets! The villa is also mostly on one level with a superb deck looking out over the gorgeous gardens, the sea and sunsets...this was invaluable as my dad was on crutches. Its the personal touches and the friendly staff that made this villa what it was. Chip's favourite pancakes were gobbled up in glee and recipe copied many a time to be repeated at breakfast times in southern Africa! We can't thank Chip & Keith enough for their warm hospitality, understanding of our situation and wonderfully appointed villa. It was a dream come true for our family who have never ventured to this part of the world - they constantly had grins on their faces....knowing that this is the stuff that dreams are made of! They were right! Thank you once again Chip & Keith - we hope we can visit you again soon - perhaps our 10th wedding anniversary! :)

Owner's Response: Lee! Thanks so much. You folks were so great in the midst of calamity. We were glad to shelter you from it. Our staff very much enjoyed your families and are sorry they live too far to return regularly. And we were all relieved the rain held off during your wedding! Best wishes to you both for a life well lived.

My family and I rented the whole property for two weeks in July 2015. It was perfect! The location cant be beat, really the perfect spot in VG. A 3 minute walk to the most beautiful beach, with access to the national park right next door. Snorkeling is great there as well...Chips property is something out of a dream. Large boulders and palm trees surrounding the property, a beautiful view of the ocean and neighboring islands complete the dream vacation.

Thank you for luring us into this trap! The sun was too warm, the beach was too perfect, the deck was too much fun, the staff was too pleasant AND too accommodating (Daniel brought us lots of coconuts) the house was too nice, the reefs were too plentiful, the painkillers too strong, and delicious, the islanders were too welcoming and friendly, the naps were too restful due to the too gentle breezes and the island too fun to explore. Then we had to head back to a sticky summer in New York City...

We cant wait to come back to this paradise.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the great review. Our staff remember you fondly. Wish we were on island at the time! I am especially glad you found the house comfortable for your two year old but I guess with five loving minders that made it a bit easier! thanks again!

This was my third time staying at the beautiful Crosswinds in Spring Bay, but my first time in the downstairs apartment. You couldn't ask for anything more! I stayed with my husband and 11 month old son and had plenty of room. The apartment is beautifully decorated and really makes you feel at home for your vacation. The grounds are gorgeous and the staff do a wonderful job keeping everything clean and tidy. Just a short walk from Crosswinds is the beautiful Spring Bay. My husband proposed to me among the rocks of "The Crawl" six years ago. Then we returned for our honeymoon and again this year to share this wonderful gem with our son. He loved playing in the warm, calm waters of the crawl. And we loved watching the next generation fall in love with Virgin Gorda just as we had. We have such precious memories of Spring Bay and they would not be the same without Crosswinds. We will certainly keep coming back!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much Emma. We are so pleased the garden level apartment worked well for your family. I am sure it will be even better next January when Jonathan can run around and in and out without anything to worry about. I know you don't call them play pens anymore but we have whatever it's called stored away, clean and dry, awaiting your return!

Great stay at the garden apartment!!

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I stayed in the first floor garden apartment for several days, visiting my parents and their friends who were staying in the main level for a couple of weeks. The apartment was the perfect size for 2 people with full kitchen and private outdoor patio. Since we were sharing the Villa with friends/family, we were able to take full advantage of the spectacular 2nd floor deck, hanging out and socializing up there when we wanted, but for times when we sought more privacy, the garden apartment was perfect. The owners live nearby and are extremely friendly, with lots of great tips about the island.

We would highly recommend the garden apartment for a younger couple staying with guests of the Crosswinds or when visitors need a third bedroom.

I call it Paradise

My family & I spent a week here the end of Jan. This year was special in that my grandson came, making him the 4th generation of our family to vacation here. The house is perfect and the owners provide everything you could possible need for a great beach vacation. The view is spectacular, the beds super comfortable, the breeze delightful. Whenever I think of vacationing elsewhere my husband will ask," Is it as nice?" and I have to answer no. We feel at home here in Crosswinds.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much. It was fun to see how an 11 month old can rock everyone's world! Wasn't his father the 11 month old on the beach just a short while ago? : )
