Welcome to 'RiverWest', a little piece of 'Paradise' on the Russian River. At our place you will discover the true meaning of “on the river” with what may be the best combination of panoramic views and easy access to the Russian River. This truly is an idyllic setting! And our reviews reflect that fact. Perfect for a romantic getaway, or vacation for the whole family.
Our Location:
In the redwoods, above the wide, lazy curve of water, with the tree-lined ridges fading to the west, our vacation home offers a tranquil and private setting for relaxation and that 'getaway feeling.' The north and west walls are almost entirely glass, which creates a light and open atmosphere, giving you a sense of freedom and flight as you gaze at the the osprey, gull, and heron. Through every moment of your day you’re surrounded by this expansive view of the river and mountains that few other places have. And, when looking is not enough, step down the stairs to the riverbank to use the 5 single KAYAKS, or row boat (in season) to enjoy the wild, scenic lower river from Duncans Mills to the ocean.
The home is located about a 3/4 mile from Duncans Mills, a quaint little town with coffee shops, restaurants, and shopping for art and collectables. "Gold Coast" the coffeeshop with daily fresh baked pastries, as well as Cape Fear and The Blue Heron restaurants offer full dining. The ocean, and all the great Sonoma Coast Beaches are about seven miles west. On hot summer days, when the rest of California is 100 degrees or more, the soothing ocean breeze cools our place into the 70-80's.
Our Home:
The two-story home is nested on the side of a hill overlooking the river. The top floor is 950 sq. ft. with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, living room and kitchen. One bedroom has a queen bed and a beautiful view of the river and mountain, and has its own 8X16 foot deck. The view is like being on the bow of a ship at sea. The second bedroom has a bunk bed for the kids and also has double doors leading to its sunny morning deck. The bathroom has a Kohler corner shower with curved glass enclosure and a sink from France. The living/dining room is open an airy with large picture windows and doors to the deck. The remodeled kitchen has stainless steel and black granite countertops with new appliances. The 1st floor studio offers 650 sq. ft. with a bedroom, bathroom, and combined living, dining, and kitchen area. There is a comfy queen bed in the spacious bedroom that also has a 8X16 foot deck with bistro table and chairs outside the French doors. The beautifully tiled bathroom has a separate tub and shower. The kitchen has is equipped with the basic utensils and dishes for preparing your meals.
Together, both floors offer 1600 sq. ft. of living space with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and two kitchens! The house will sleep 6. The lower flat is private. The floors are accessible by two sets of stairs on the outside of the house. There is no stairs inside the building from floor to floor. There are numerous decks and two terraces with patio seating. This makes a perfect setup for vacationing with Mom and Dad, extended families, or friends. Encircling the home on two levels is 700 sq. ft. of barefoot-friendly Trex decking with bistro table and chairs. Another terrace has a Weber 3 burner gas grill and more patio seating, and a fire kettle. All decking, stairs, and patio areas have railing or fencing to safeguard young children.
THE IMPORTANT HOUSE RULES BEFORE BOOKING :
BRING YOUR OWN BATH TOWELS. Bath mats and kitchen towels are provided.
THERE IS NO SMOKING IN THE HOME.
PETS ARE NOT ALLOWED.
6 PERSON LIMIT (ANYONE OVER 2 YRS. OF AGE) ON THE PROPERTY AT ALL TIMES. No other guests are allowed to visit during the day or night, no exceptions.
Grounds:
Beyond the decks, we have upper and lower terrace areas surrounded by the natural riparian forest - massive redwoods, maple, river willow and buckeye trees, with ferns, and sorrel beneath. We leave the vegetation in its natural state to support the redwood's ecosystem and the great variety of animal life that abounds in the area. We have no neighbors downstream; we look into the river forest as it continues to the west. Upstream, are two undeveloped lots filled with forest; so, we have great privacy and seclusion. There are masonry steps and gravel at the bank making it easier to get in and out of the water with the kayaks for young and old. Kayaks are available in summer and most likely in spring and fall, but not during winter due to high water and fast currents. With any question about conditions I determine the availability of the water craft.
Rental Options:
There is a 2 NIGHT MINIMUM on regular nights, and 3 NIGHT MINIMUM ON HOLIDAYS on all rentals.

Thanks, Jenni! Always like to hear that my guests are enjoying my place. Thanks for the compliment. Yes, being the owner and manager gives my guests the comfort of talking with the owner, one who really cares about them, and not some agency. I know that my guests time is important and you need to know things in a timely fashion and I try to do that. Do come back, love to have you stay. Cameron.
Our experience at the Riverfront was incredible! The highlights were the location, stunning and peaceful views of the river and the redwoods, and peaceful small boat ride down the river observing plentiful fish. Very much looking forward to going back!
Loved our stay here - the views from the house and the various porches were wonderful, the kayaks and private river access were a huge treat, and the house itself was comfortable.
We had a wonderful stay at Riverwest! The house is located right on the river with its own small dock and kayaks. We enjoyed paddling the river, hiking on the coast and going in to town. The house was clean and well stocked and we loved the view of the river watching egrets, herons and river otters. Can't wait to come back!
Well equipped for kayaking, cooking, lounging
Gorgeous views from most rooms, decks- birds and other wildlife abound
Easy access to River, beaches, grocery store
Very informative and welcoming host
Would come again
Had a ton of fun at this house, it has an excellent view of the water, and plenty of space for 2 groups to stay. We enjoyed the road closure toward Duncans Mills, walking our way to town. Had a blast by the river, would definitely stay here again!
Great location with direct access to the water. Incredibly quiet spot. Couldn't have been better

We strive to make it a place of and peace and quiet for so many beleaguered city dwellers that come for the beauty of the surroundings and the great river access. Wonderfully situated and appointed riverside house
The most idyllic setting with fantastic split-level accommodation which exceeded out expectations. You're immersed in the riverside experience and wildlife-watching (seal, otters, herons, osprey, deer, etc).

Thank you for your great review. I'm very glad you enjoyed our place and thanks for taking good care of it. Cameron
The views from all the windows are astounding. We had such a relaxing time kayaking, swimming, and playing card games. The house is very clean and close to town. It feels very private and there is no one close by. We had a really great time here and will definitely return.
This property is truly wonderful -- exactly as described in every way. We loved our stay! Cameron is an incredibly communicative and thoughtful host. We very much look forward to returning as soon as possible: the highest praise.
This house has amazing panoramic view of the river. Great kayaking and swimming right from the house. We saw deer, trout, otters, marine seal, many different kinds of birds right from the balcony. We stayed in the upstairs unit which had a good layout and was very clean and comfortable. We would love to stay again!

Michael,
I couldn't have said it better. I'm glad you got a chance to see all the wildlife that abounds around our place. We'd love to have you stay again, my housecleaner said you took very good care of our place. We appreciate that very much.
I have been to the Russian River area dozens of times and the location of this property allowed me to enjoy everything I loved about the area. The river is at your feet, easy access to the Armstrong State Park, family wineries and a short drive to the Sonoma coast. The property was clean, well kept and the communication from the owner was excellent. We were grateful to have the opportunity to stay at this property!
We are a family of 6 adults and there was plenty of space. The 4 kayaks and the small dock on the river allowed us to paddle up and down the river or go swimming whenever we wanted. The wifi was good and we were able to work from the house and stream Netflix movies in the evening without issue.

Great retreat
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed this home and location for 4 days recently. It was comfortable and spacious for our group of three adults and 2 children. We loved being on the river and used the kayaks that were included everyday. It was a short drive to the ocean and Armstrong Redwoods Park and within an hour of jet skiing on Lake Sonoma--a wonderful retreat from the Bay Area, with excellent WIFI connections.

Toni, I'm glad you had such a great time at my place. Thanks for mentioning Lake Sonoma, I haven't mentioned that to my guests or listed it in my website, but now I will. And, I'm glad you enjoyed the river as well. With the reports of poor water quality,, I'm always happy to tell people that because of our location, being so close to the ocean, and the depth of the water, the water quality is always good at our place. Thanks for the kind words. Do come back.
This location is perfect for a family that needs two living areas. It is right on the river and appealing to those who like to kayak or canoe. The drive to the coast is only 15-20 minutes.
The photos online don't do justice to how incredibly beautiful this home and location are. The views of the river are incredible and there is constantly wildlife to watch. Check-in was very easy and owner Cameron is really helpful. The kitchen is big and open, great for making meals with family. The home is very well-maintained and quiet. Appliances are modern and clean. It was a huge help to have laundry available for muddy swimsuits. We had so much fun kayaking and enjoying the wildlife. We also had a great time exploring the surrounding towns. We will definitely be back to the Russian River, it was worth the 9 hour drive from OC!
