Welcome to 'RiverWest', a little piece of 'Paradise' on the Russian River. Discover the true meaning of “on the river” with what may be the best combination of panoramic views and easy access to the Russian River. This truly is an idyllic setting! Perfect for a romantic getaway, or vacation for the whole family. First, a brief note on communication; to make sure we have the right guest accommodation fit, l aways have a phone conversation with every guest before we book. My cell# 209-712-9657,

Our Location:

In the redwoods, above the wide, lazy curve of water, with the tree-lined ridges fading to the west, our vacation home offers a tranquil and private setting for relaxation and that 'getaway feeling.' The north and west walls are almost entirely glass, which creates a light and open atmosphere, giving you a sense of freedom and flight as you gaze at the the osprey, gull, and heron. Through every moment of your day, you’re surrounded by this expansive view of the river and mountains that few other places have. And, when looking is not enough, step down the stairs to your private dock to use the four single kayaks, or row boat to enjoy the wild, scenic lower river, from Duncans Mills to the ocean.

The home is located about a 3/4 mile from Duncans Mills, a quaint little town with coffee shops, restaurants, and shopping for art and collectables. The ocean, and all the great Sonoma Coast Beaches are about seven miles west. On hot summer days, when the rest of California is 100 degrees or more, the soothing ocean breeze cools our place into the 70-80's.

Our Home:

The two-story home is nested on the side of a hill overlooking the river. The 2nd. floor is 950 sq. ft. with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, living room and kitchen. One bedroom has a queen bed and a beautiful view of the river and mountain, and has its own 8’X16’ deck with bistro table and chairs. The view is like being on the bow of a ship at sea. The second bedroom has a bunk bed for the kids and also has double doors leading to its sunny morning deck. The bathroom has a Kohler corner shower with curved glass enclosure and a sink from France. The living/dining room is open an airy with large picture windows and doors to the deck. The remodeled kitchen has stainless steel and black granite countertops with new appliances. The 1st floor studio offers 650 sq. ft. with a bedroom, bathroom, and combined living, dining, and kitchen area. There is a comfy queen bed in the spacious bedroom that also has a 8'X16' deck outside the French doors. The beautifully tiled bathroom has a separate tub and shower. The kitchen has new cabinets and appliances, and is equipped with the basic utensils and dishes for preparing your meals.

Together, both floors offer 1600 sq. ft. of living space with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and two kitchens! The house will sleep 6. The floors are accessible by two sets of stairs on the outside of the house. There is no stairs inside the building from floor to floor. There are numerous decks and two terraces with patio seating. This makes a perfect setup for vacationing with Mom and Dad, extended families, or friends.

Encircling the home on two levels is 700 sq. ft. of barefoot-friendly Trex decking with bistro table and chairs. Another terrace has a Weber 2 burner gas grill and more patio seating, and a fire pit. All decking, stairs, and patio areas have railing or fencing to safeguard young children. There is no smoking allowed in the home. Sorry, pets are not allowed.

Beyond the decks, we have upper and lower terrace areas surrounded by the natural riparian forest - massive redwoods, maple, river willow and buckeye trees, with ferns, and sorrel beneath. We leave the vegetation in its natural state to support the redwood's ecosystem and the great variety of animal life that abounds in the area. We have no neighbors downstream; we look into the river forest as it continues to the west. Upstream, are two undeveloped lots filled with forest; so, we have great privacy and seclusion. Next to the dock there is a river-rock beach, making it easy to get in and out of the kayaks for young and old.

My friends and I had a wonderful week-end in this lovely house. We were there to do the lazy float trip on the Russian River. The house is conveniently situated 20 minutes from one of the departure point.

We enjoyed the outdoor fire pit and barbecue as well.

There was a couple with a young child with us for the weekend. We particularly appreciated the organization on 2 levels like it was 2 independent apartments (1kitchen and bathroom per floor). Like that everyone could have the privacy they wanted.

We also enjoyed having 4 kayaks included in the price of the house because rental can be expensive and kayaking on the river was a lot of fun.

All in all we had a really great time, thanks also to Cameron who has been really kind and accommodating. We wished we had more time there.

Owner's Response: Thank you Caroline. I'm so glad you had a great time. And thank you for putting in writing what I hear from all my guests when I talk with them afterwards. I try to offer a comfortable place at an affordable cost for those with family time in mind, and give them the professional, warm treatment from an owner who works to help guests enjoy their stay. Thank you for taking good care of my place as well, that's always appreciated. Yes, and do come back and spend some more time there, you are always welcome to stay.

Peaceful getaway, plenty of room for a large family. The layout of the property is unique, enjoyed staying downstairs with it's own kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom and beautiful deck.

Thank you,

Owner's Response: Evgeni, Thank you for the great review. I'm glad you enjoyed my place. I always try to help my guests get the most out of their time at my home and in the area. That means good communication, offering information, and treating people well - the way I like to be treated when I'm traveling. But, you made that easy. You were the guests that any owner is looking for - communicative, respectful, responsible, and appreciative. Thanks for taking good care of my place while you were there. You are always welcome to come back and spend some more time at Riverwest. See you next time! Cameron

Relaxing on the river

  • 5 of 5

Riverwest was a terrific choice for our three generation party. The location was great between winery land and the sea, quiet and with quirky Guerneville near by. The house was spotless, well appointed and access easy. Cameron was great with communication. No cell coverage in the house ( or surrounding pack a map) provided a partial digital detox.....wifi was very good. House is in two units which was perfect for grandparents to slope off......

We enjoyed the house with its many levels and decks. The kayaks and rowboat proved popular with easy excursions up or down the river. Lots of wildlife to see and quiet evenings around a fire pit watching the river and stars, smores for the little ones and some beautiful wines for the grown ups. (Try Sbragia near Lake Sonoma for picnic and wine tasting on a beautiful site) We used a Safeway in Guerneville for shopping which was well stocked and alsofound lots of local fruit, bakery and coffee places. Nice meal at the Blue Heron in Duncans Mills.

All in all a perfect house in a wonderful setting and a great time was had by all.

Great retreat

  • 4 of 5

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed this home and location for 4 days recently. It was comfortable and spacious for our group of three adults and 2 children. We loved being on the river and used the kayaks that were included everyday. It was a short drive to the ocean and Armstrong Redwoods Park and within an hour of jet skiing on Lake Sonoma--a wonderful retreat from the Bay Area, with excellent WIFI connections.

Owner's Response: Toni, I'm glad you had such a great time at my place. Thanks for mentioning Lake Sonoma, I haven't mentioned that to my guests or listed it in my website, but now I will. And, I'm glad you enjoyed the river as well. With the reports of poor water quality,, I'm always happy to tell people that because of our location, being so close to the ocean, and the depth of the water, the water quality is always good at our place. Thanks for the kind words. Do come back.
