About Thomas Marquardt
We are Thomas and Rebecca and live in Vancouver, BC, Canada. We always had a dream to one day escape the dreary wet winters of west coast Canada and find a little spot in paradise to vacation and retire. The long search for an oceanfront condo started 9 years ago, with many hours spent scouting locations all over the world via the Internet. We then visited some of the most idyllic spots, but never really found what we were looking for, until one weekend, in May 2009, Thomas discovered a small seaside town in southern Mexico called Puerto Escondido and instantly fell in love with the place. He went there to see an oceanfront condo, but it was not meeting all our expectations. When he was shown a property on a 100 ft high waterfront bluff with an amazing panoramic view of the ocean, there was no stopping us, our adventure in Puerto Escondido began....
Thomas Marquardt purchased this Condo in 2010
Why Thomas Marquardt chose Carrizalillo
It is an oceanfront property with a spectacular 180 degree view. Our condo is within short walking distance to the beach with golden sand and clear emerald warm water. Shopping is just a short walk away too.

Exceptional Property and View
Our family of four adults and two children enjoyed two weeks at Casa Rebecca. This is a classy condo in terms of its design, furnishings and setting. We loved the balcony, rooftop-sitting area and pool. The location makes it possible to walk to the best beaches as well as restaurants in the Rinconada area but remain removed from crowds and noise. The market and large grocery story are a short and inexpensive taxi ride away. For our grandchildren, the opportunities to take surfing lessons, swim with dolphins and release baby turtles into the sea were major treats!
This was our second visit to Casa Rebecca and once again we loved it. Nice modernish interior with a large a palapa with great oceanviews. The grounds are very well maintained, close to many restaurants and beaches.
Hope to return again soon!
Great in every way
Great in every way including owners hospitality. You are in for a special stay.
Be sure to have a phone to call for taxi service. A little off the normal traffic taxi routes.
Amazing Place with Amazing Views
My husband and I spent 4 glorious weeks in Puerto Escondido, staying at our own little oasis, Casa Rebecca. Nestled in a garden of palm trees, bourganvillia and other tropical plants, our condo and private palapa was incredibly clean, spacious and well equipped. The views were breathtaking from every room, and spectacular from the palapa. My husband likened it to sitting on the bow of a cruise ship! Every evening we watched amazing sunsets while enjoying a glass of chilled wine.
A ten minute stroll took us to the Rinconada where we found a good variety of cafés and restaurants, but most evenings we enjoyed cooking at home on our charcoal BBQ.
Carrizalillio Beach was about a 10 minute walk. We loved the white sand, warm and clear ocean and great snorkeling.
We loved Puerto Escondido for its general lack of big hotels and a feeling of being in a real Mexican town and we loved Casa Rebecca, because it gave us all our home comforts in a tropical paradise.
The property management was very diligent and attentative to every detail. We are definitely going back.
The pictures do a very accurate portrayal of the home
beautiful view - nice granite countertops - very clean
the pots and pans and knives were in good shape
If you have rented many vacation homes before you will know you usually get
beaten up pots and pans and dull knives
We saw whales swimming by almost every day
The owner is very easy to deal with
We did have a few problems wifi not working etc but the manager and housekeeper were very quick to fix things when pointed out
In one of the reviews it mentioned the bbq not working and was replaced it was replaced however with a small charcoal grill - a gas grill would be nice
The area feels safe and easy to walk to restaurants and shops
If you have not been to the area before taxis are cheap to go anywhere you want to go
there are a couple of beach areas within a reasonable walking distance - you will need to be is reasonable shape as walking down to either is easy but the back up you will definitely work off your lunch calories -
there is a beach club within about a 10-15 min walk where you can pay $200 pesos and for that you get use of the pool a lounge chair and they take the $200 pesos off any food or drinks you buy - beer was very reasonable and you were right on a beautiful beach
We were there over New Years so beaches were pretty busy with lots of Mexican families as most areas are in Mexico at that time of year - but by a week after New Years beaches were pretty empty again
We are glad you enjoyed your stay in our home. The WiFi is now working well, after a defective cable was replaced. Thank you for review and we hope to welcome you as our guest again.
We stayed at Casa Rebecca for two weeks. The first week was quite frustrating as so many things needed repair. The WIFI and cable did not work upon our arrival, but fortunately it was quickly repaired within a day. Then all three air conditioners were not working properly and needed repair along with the refrigerator. It took the repair crew all day, but they did a good job. The following day, the cleaner came back as she was unable to clean properly before we arrived. The upstairs Palapa was in disarray and unusable. The BBQ was rusted beyond use and the birds (swifts or swallows) had taken over the rafters in the Palapa. There were bird droppings all over. The maid cleaned up, but given the birds (over 50, I'm sure) flew in every evening, making it impossible to watch the sunset. They buzzed us every time we tried to sit upstairs. Fortunately the property manager was able to get a crew out to install netting in the rafters which covered the nests, but it took the whole rest of our stay before the birds realized they had lost their nesting grounds. Plus installing the netting took two days and there was noise and no use of the Palapa. After the first week, we were able to settle in and enjoyed the rest of our stay, but it left a bad impression and we hope that everything will be in proper order for the next guests. We feel our stay was very expensive to have so much inconvenience and disrepair. One set of neighbors in the complex was great and helpful with our plight, but the flip side is that workers were updating the unit below drilling and pounding which added to our lack of a relaxing stay. Overall, very disappointing.
Dear guests, unfortunately we can not always be aware of these issues in a timely manner, otherwise they would be addressed immediately. Our property manager is instructed to rectify any maintenance issues immediately and we will continue to keep Casa Rebecca in excellent condition. The BBQ has also been replaced in the meantime. We appreciate any comments that will help us to make Casa Rebecca a better place.
