Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Situated on the edge of Big Bonne Bay Pond and Gros Morne National Park our 1800 sq foot beachfront vacation house offers beautiful views of the lake, rolling hills and wildlife. While houses are on either side of the property, large trees keep the house secluded.

The property is situated on the very edge of Gros Morne National Park with a large ecological preserve just outside your master bedroom. Opportunities exist to watch moose, ducks and other wildlife while sitting on your deck or in the vast gardens soaking up the fresh air while having your morning coffee. When you have finished your coffee take a stroll along the beach and have a look for tracks to see if you had any moose visit you overnight.

Exploring Gros Morne national park is a geographically challenged task. Our home is situated in the middle of the park, 40 minutes from the Tablelands Mountains and 1 hour from Western Brook pond. Being centrally located is perfect to head out for your daily adventures.

The House is equipped with all the amenities you will need for your stay. Use the fully equipped oak kitchen to prepare your food however you like it. With a fish plant and full grocery facilities nearby you’ll have lots of opportunity to enjoy fresh lobster, cod and all kinds of ocean treats. We have a lobster pot and outdoor propane cooker at the house so you can enjoy a traditional outdoor lobster feast. If you need more supplies for the house a corner store is only 5 km away and the City of Deer Lake is only a short 15 minute drive.

There are 3 bedrooms. The master bedroom has a Queen bed with large windows overlooking the lake and the ecological preserve. The second bedroom has a Queen bed. The third bedroom has two twin beds. There is additional sleeping possibilities in the finished basement. We have a king size air matress that can be split into 2 twins. Otherwise the large leather sectional couch can even add another sleeping location. Sheets and pillows are provided for the air matress.

At the end of the day there are several choices to relax. A campfire in the stone fire pit will allow you to reflect on your days adventures while you roast some marshmallows and look at the stars. There is also a 7 person, 80 jet, 3 waterfall deluxe salt water hot tub to help soothe your muscles after a day of hiking, snowmobiling, boating, four wheeling or whatever adventures your day entailed.

If the weather decides not to cooperate our house is equipped with lots of activities. The basement is fully furnished with a Plasma TV, Satellite HD receiver, air hockey table, DVD player, movies, books, satellite internet and board games.

Every season offers a reason to return to the Chateau. Whether its snowmobiling on the number one rated trail in the world, ice fishing, four wheeling, sea doing, boating, hiking or just relaxing with a book in the fresh air , a stay at Chateau Shady Loop offers it all.

Why Jen and Joel chose Canada

After 20 years of being a tourist in Newfoundland we decided to call it home! We were married in Newfoundland and have seen just about every corner of the island.

What makes this house unique

When we stay in Shady Loop there are so many things we enjoy doing. Certainly taking in the fresh air, the sky FULL of stars and walking the beach are fovorites of ours. We LOVE seafood, so having the fish plant and proper grocery access nearby makes for OUTSTANDING meals.

Having Gros Morne national park only a few kilometres away makes for outstanding day trips. Whether it is out looking for moose, off hiking a mountain, or taking a walk at the tablelands - there is just so much to do!!!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a beautiful stay at Chateau Shady Loop! The view was breath taking and after our hike up Gros Morne Mountain, the hot tub was a great help!

Snowmobiling couples

  • 5 of 5

Our 2nd snowmobiling trip to Shady Loop Chalet did not disappoint 😁? It really is a little piece of heaven on earth 🌨? Even with the winter weather we totally enjoy yourself, 25 cm of fresh powder on top of at least 6 feet of snow is a dream. Excellent conditions and all the trails are on your doorstep. Once the vehicle was parked on Thursday, it didn't move until Monday morning. Three great days on the trails, to return to a cozy home with everything you need, total relaxation each evening and the hot tub💗?. Like I said, heaven on earth!!! Can't wait for next year, may just have to plan two visits 😍?

Excellent Location for Snowmobilers

  • 5 of 5

This is at least the 3rd time we have stayed at Shady loop for our annual snowmobiling trips. Our group usually consists of any where from 4 to 6 men.

The home never disappoints and there is always ample space for this many guests. There is lots of space for gear to be laid out in the basement near the propane stove and is well dry by the morning.

The full kitchen is great for preparing your own meals and you never need to eat out if you don't want too. As well the newly installed high end BBQ on is a great addition.

There is ample parking at the home and you can drive your truck and trailer right to the door. No need to have to carry gear in toboggans upon arrival or when leaving.

The Bonne Bay Pond area is one of the best on the island for snowmobiling with good reliable snow most winters from January to April. The Jack ladder is only a short hop away and has some groceries, small bar/restaurant with excellent food and a gas bar. No need to worry about having to bring gas in Jerry cans as you can gas up every evening at the jack ladder.

Overall Shady loop is one of the best places I have stayed on the West coast of Newfoundland for snowmobiling and would recommend this property to anybody interested snowmobiling in this area.

Motards retraités en visite dans les maritimes

  • 5 of 5

Merci! xxxxx

Couple snowmobiling trip

  • 5 of 5

Excellent!! Parked friends truck and trailer on Friday afternoon, unloaded the snowmobiles and off we went... Right out onto Big Bonne Bay Pond to the Jackladder and back... Returned to a beautiful, clean, warm home. Fully equipped kitchen, cooked an excellent meal, sat in a comfortable living room, and then a great relaxing hot tub soak. The stars are amazing 💕Retired to a bed with a memory foam mattress. Slept likes babies. Up to cook an awesome breakfast, before meeting our guide, who was able to drive up to the door. Parks his vehicle and upload his machine. Off for the adventure of a lifetime, The Gorge, some excellent back country snowmobiling, WOW, the scenery was beautiful 🏔 The weather had turned bad by the time we arrived at The Genge. You couldn't see 10 feet in front of you but it was still worth every second. Returned to a beautiful home, repeated the excellent meal and hot tub again!!!! And yes, definitely sleep like babies that night. The next day, Mother Nature forced us to relax in the morning with the snow coming down pretty heavy, but by 1:00p.m. We were out in the fresh powder 😃. Today adventure, The Sink Hole, the snow was unbelievable, cut through the fresh powder was amazing, and you guess it. Back to a relaxing home, and did I mention Hot Tub 😍. Next morning we hated to pack up and go home. We could definitely have stayed for another 3-4 days. This was the 1st time we were moving the truck since Friday! We are definitely making this a yearly couples trip. Truly Heaven on Earth. High Recommended. The owners and caretakers are excellent to deal with as well 😊

Chateau Shady Loop is in the ideal location to explore Western Newfoundland. Its tough to tell from a map, but there is a lot of land to cover. Gros Morne National Park is 2.5 hours to travel from side to side, so if you are not in the right location you can spend a lot of time driving versus exploring. Amenities are very important if you plan on doing your own cooking. Chateau Shady Loop is only 15 minutes from full grocery stores vs. have a kitchen, but minimal access to supplies once you get further from Deer Lake.

There is so much to see and do from Chateau Shady Loop. Every season offers different activities. In the summer there is great hiking trails to explore. Gros Morne national park has amazing hiking trails. There are trails for all abilities. The two toughest are Green Gardesn and a full day hike up gros morne mountain. After these hikes you will be very glad the hot tub is awaiting you at our Chateau. There are many other hikes all within a 45 minute drive that will leave you debating which trails to do.

In the Winter Chateau Shady Loop transforms into a Winter Wonderland. With an average snowfall of 14ft there are no limits to the adventures you can have. Snowshoeing, cross country skiing, down hill skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing are sure to keep you busy.

If you are a fisherman there is trout fishing all around in the summer and ice fishing in the winter. You can get a guide and fly fish for Salmon outside the park and you get your own tag inside the park (contact park for details). If you want to deep sea fish for cod there are charters within 30-60 minutes of the Chateau.

The beach at Chateau Shady Loop is a great place for a swim. The sandy beach is a rare find on the island and can make for a relaxing day, or a place to explore.

There is lots of wildlife in the area. The park has thousands of moose and a herd of caribou, both of which have made the occasional visit to shady loop. Be careful driving at night, especially inside the park.
