Sugarloaf Pine Home, Clean, Surrounded by Fir Trees, Wildlife,

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (4 max occupancy)

Our clean and rustic year round home is at the base of Cranberry Peak of the Bigelow Range. We are 6.8 miles from Sugarloaf where the skiing (and the golf) is the best in the East! We are on a quaint, dead end road directly off Rt. 27, the main road to Sugarloaf. Our home is sunny, has a small brook in the back, is surrounded by fir trees, is peaceful and quiet, and is often visited by deer.

Spring, summer and fall are great times to stay!! 4 day minimum required/ $85 per night. If you are a hunter or like to fish, Stratton, Maine is the place to come for deer, moose, turkeys, or birds. You can leave right from our backyard, and wander through the woods or on the many trail systems. Local folks can clue you in to all the great fishing holes!!! Bikers and hikers can access trails right in Stratton, or enjoy Sugarloaf Mountain trails, trails on the Bigelow Range, the Narrow Gauge pathway in Carrabassett Valley, or the Maine Huts and Trails. Flagstaff Lake is right down the road, surrounded by large red you can kayak, swim, or fish!! On the other side of the lake is the great Maine Huts and Trails, where you can hike from hut to hut and enjoy a hot meal, right in the woods, or spend the night in a cabin! Rangeley is only 30 minutes away where you'll find more swimming options, activities, and restaurants. And, if you just like a quiet and peaceful get-away, our cabin would be ideal for you!

More Information: Coplin Dinner House is within walking distance of our home - 3/8 of a mile away . Great gourmet food, or sandwiches at the bar. Hours vary in the summer.

Sharing Our Home:

We use our home on a regular basis and hope you will enjoy it as much as we do!! It is not a 4 star hotel, but it is as clean as you will find, simple, peaceful, and pleasantly decorated. Our rustic furnishings, pine interior, sunny porch, abundant windows, and beautiful surroundings will all help you to relax in this great Maine vacation area! We've added an 'electric' fireplace this hassle of logs, but the ambience and warmth of a fire! We look for renters who will respect and truly enjoy the property.

We provide all furnishings and everything you need for meal preparation. For bedding we provide blankets and pillows. You will need to bring sheets (2 full beds, 1 queen) and towels. We will keep condiments, sugar, trash bags, tinfoil, saran wrap, etc., dish detergent for your use, but will ask that you resupply if you deplete the stock.

Our home is beautiful and clean and peaceful, and less costly than many other stand alone homes - we keep our prices reasonable because we don't have amenities more expensive sites would have - we have no internet (but it is available on the mountain and at the library) and we don't have a washer and dryer available. We do ask for a security deposit which is returned promptly in full, provided the home is left as you found it.

Because we are close to preserved land, outdoor fires are not permitted.

About Sue Murphy

We live in Windham, Maine, near Sebago Lake, and go to our home near Sugarloaf often. My husband is a ski coach on the mountain, and when not skiing, I run a program for adults with intellectual disabilities and autism in the Portland, Maine area.

Sue Murphy purchased this house in 2010

Why Sue Murphy chose Stratton

We chose this property as a second home so that we could enjoy skiing all winter, and the many outdoor activities the area has to offer in the Spring, Summer and Fall. My husband has been a 'Sugarloafer' for almost 50 years, so we wanted to be close to the mountain.

What makes this house unique

The location of our home is just beautiful, especially after a new snowfall, which there has been plenty of this winter!! It is located on a very small dead-end road, with a couple of year round and several seasonal neighbors. We are surrounded by hills, fir trees, and wildlife. It's peaceful, relaxing, and a great get-a-way!You can feel yourself unwind as you travel down the road. We chose this home because it is small and perfect for two, but with 3 bedrooms, plenty big for visitors. It is cozy, rustically decorated, fairly new, and very clean. Our new 'electric' fireplace adds a nice touch! t's also a great place for our grandchildren to visit, and other family members.

What to bring...absolutely nothing, but personal items and a love for the great outdoors!

  • 5 of 5

We couldn’t be more pleased with the accommodations! Beautiful cabin, well maintained, and close to Sugarloaf and surrounding area. It was tough to leave this place....not only the end of our stay, but also during our two weeks there! Would highly recommend this for skiers and anyone looking to spend some time in the great outdoors. We would very much like to book this again!

Tranquil location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed over the Columbus Day weekend and had a fantastic time. The cottage is perfect and Sue was very accommodating to our schedule. We brought out ATV and found that the trails connect right across the road behind the Spillover Motel. Very close to Sugarloaf also and it was their homecoming weekend so free chairlift rides on the quad. Overall a fantastic experience and we would not hesitate to book again.

Convenient clean cabin near everything

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was a clean, comfortable and quiet place to stay near town. The kitchen was well equipped, the market just a couple of minutes away and a restaurant just down the road too. We enjoyed our stay and all communications with Sue were easy and clear. It was no inconvenience to not have Wi-Fi and we didn't mind cleaning up after ourselves to save the cleaning fees which can bring up the cost of a stay. We will be staying here again whenever we're in the area.
