Sugarloaf Pine Home, Clean, Surrounded by Fir Trees, Wildlife,

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (4 max occupancy)

Our clean and rustic year round home is at the base of Cranberry Peak of the Bigelow Range. We are 6.8 miles from Sugarloaf where the skiing (and the golf) is the best in the East! We are on a quaint, dead end road directly off Rt. 27, the main road to Sugarloaf. Our home is sunny, has a small brook in the back, is surrounded by fir trees, is peaceful and quiet, and is often visited by deer.

Spring, summer and fall are great times to stay!! 4 day minimum required/ $85 per night. If you are a hunter or like to fish, Stratton, Maine is the place to come for deer, moose, turkeys, or birds. You can leave right from our backyard, and wander through the woods or on the many trail systems. Local folks can clue you in to all the great fishing holes!!! Bikers and hikers can access trails right in Stratton, or enjoy Sugarloaf Mountain trails, trails on the Bigelow Range, the Narrow Gauge pathway in Carrabassett Valley, or the Maine Huts and Trails. Flagstaff Lake is right down the road, surrounded by large red you can kayak, swim, or fish!! On the other side of the lake is the great Maine Huts and Trails, where you can hike from hut to hut and enjoy a hot meal, right in the woods, or spend the night in a cabin! Rangeley is only 30 minutes away where you'll find more swimming options, activities, and restaurants. And, if you just like a quiet and peaceful get-away, our cabin would be ideal for you!

More Information: Coplin Dinner House is within walking distance of our home - 3/8 of a mile away . Great gourmet food, or sandwiches at the bar. Hours vary in the summer.

Sharing Our Home:

We use our home on a regular basis and hope you will enjoy it as much as we do!! It is not a 4 star hotel, but it is as clean as you will find, simple, peaceful, and pleasantly decorated. Our rustic furnishings, pine interior, sunny porch, abundant windows, and beautiful surroundings will all help you to relax in this great Maine vacation area! We've added an 'electric' fireplace this hassle of logs, but the ambience and warmth of a fire! We look for renters who will respect and truly enjoy the property.

We provide all furnishings and everything you need for meal preparation. For bedding we provide blankets and pillows. You will need to bring sheets (2 full beds, 1 queen) and towels. We will keep condiments, sugar, trash bags, tinfoil, saran wrap, etc., dish detergent for your use, but will ask that you resupply if you deplete the stock.

Our home is beautiful and clean and peaceful, and less costly than many other stand alone homes - we keep our prices reasonable because we don't have amenities more expensive sites would have - we have no internet (but it is available on the mountain and at the library) and we don't have a washer and dryer available. We do ask for a security deposit which is returned promptly in full, provided the home is left as you found it.

Because we are close to preserved land, outdoor fires are not permitted.

About Sue Murphy

We live in Windham, Maine, near Sebago Lake, and go to our home near Sugarloaf often. My husband is a ski coach on the mountain, and when not skiing, I run a program for adults with intellectual disabilities and autism in the Portland, Maine area.

Sue Murphy purchased this house in 2010

Why Sue Murphy chose Sugarloaf

We chose this property as a second home so that we could enjoy skiing all winter, and the many outdoor activities the area has to offer in the Spring, Summer and Fall. My husband has been a 'Sugarloafer' for almost 50 years, so we wanted to be close to the mountain.

What makes this house unique

The location of our home is just beautiful, especially after a new snowfall, which there has been plenty of this winter!! It is located on a very small dead-end road, with a couple of year round and several seasonal neighbors. We are surrounded by hills, fir trees, and wildlife. It's peaceful, relaxing, and a great get-a-way!You can feel yourself unwind as you travel down the road. We chose this home because it is small and perfect for two, but with 3 bedrooms, plenty big for visitors. It is cozy, rustically decorated, fairly new, and very clean. Our new 'electric' fireplace adds a nice touch! t's also a great place for our grandchildren to visit, and other family members.

Quiet, Quaint, Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Sue and Rett's home is beautiful. It is clean and the unique décor they add to their home makes you feel even cozier. It is easy to tell a lot of work has been put into this home to make it a desirable place to stay. The location is great-set back on a road in a quiet neighborhood and close enough to restaurants and nearby activities. Sue and Rett were so easy to communicate with and we received our security deposit back right away. I would absolutely recommend staying here.

Happy cabin with easy access and all amenities.

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is a great little place in an excellent location. My only regret is not getting a chance to try the Coplin Dinner House down the road!

I would go out of my way to stay here again. Sue is a great person to rent from- clear communication, reasonable terms, and provides helpful information for area attractions and necessities.

Beautiful cabin in the woods. Thank you Sue and Rett.

My husband and I stayed at this cabin for 5 nights. The cabin is just adorable. It's clean, spacious, inviting and welcoming. We chose to eat in most nights. The kitchen was supplied with everything we needed to prepare our meals. We didn't miss wi-fi at all. This place is perfect for a wonderful getaway. We loved staying here and truly hated to leave. We highly recommend it!

Thank you Sue & Rett!

My husband and I have been up to this area for the last three years and have always stayed in a hotel. Since there are only a few hotels, we thought we would try something different by renting this cabin. We absolutely loved it and would definitely come back next year. We love to kayak and mountain bike as our friends stay at Cathedral Pines as they like to camp. Since we hate camping this was the perfect option. We loved how new it seemed! It is very clean, well maintained, spacious, and well equipped for just about anything. We did venture out to Coplin Plantation dinner house one night for lobster night and I'd give it 3 stars out of 5. Not the best but not the worst! I would recommend getting a portable air conditioner for the cabin for hot days...nights were fine with the windows open. Bed was comfortable and liked the idea of bringing our own sheets and towels! We loved the location and how private it is.

A beautiful, spacious and quiet house.

  • 5 of 5

We liked very much our four day stay in the Sugarloaf Pine Home in Stratton. It was better than all our expectations.

The wooden floors and walls create a warm and friendly atmosphere. The kitchen is very well equipped, and the dining room is spacious. We appreciated this a lot since we prefer to have our dinners 'at home' specially after hiking days (though there is a restaurant at less than 1 mile). In the evening, we relaxed in the confortable living room sometimes watching TV, and for sleeping, the rooms and beds are very confortable.

The environment is also very quiet, the house being isolated by beautiful trees,

among them a lot of pines which we found very nice and impressive. Thus, even though the house is close to road 27, we have the feeling of being in a remote place.

Not least for people who like hiking like us, the house is close to the trailheads to the highest peaks in the area ( Bigelow, Saddleback,...). We were very happy about this, not to mention the trailhead of Cranberry peak which is less than 1 mile away.

If we ever come back in the area, it is without doubt that we would appreciate to rent it again.
