If you like long walks on a quiet, white sandy beach, you will love Long Bay located below Mermaid Villa within walking or driving distance! Mermaid Villa is a two bedroom one bathroom home with a fully equipped kitchen, BBQ grill, two balcony's and a private patio off the pool. Dine indoors or out! Although the ocean breezes will keep you cool we do have air conditioning in both bedrooms.
There is a washer/dryer, TV and internet. The two bedrooms can be made up with king beds and one room can also be made into twins.
The 2 bedrooms share a bathroom which has two sinks and a shower.
All linens, dishes and beach towels are furnished. This is perfect for 2 couples or
a family of 4 to vacationing together. If you need to accommodate more people, please see Little Mermaid. A one bedroom apartment located right next door.

Stunning location and views, one-of-kind hospitality

Janet and Leslie are wonderful hosts - welcoming, helpful, interesting and kind. The home was great for our family of four. The kids loved the pool, the pets. The restaurants nearby were fabulous.

BVI’s Best Kept Secret- Mermaid Villa

Wonderful property, host, views, amenities, beach, mountain and salt pond beach birding and of course little Mermaid pool. With Jan on site, you instantly get questions answered and the real skinny on local restaurants and day excursions. Jan has a 40 year plus knowledge of bvi and Beef Island to share. Spot on!

Great Place with a wonderful view

Nice two bedroom guest house with a pool. Wonderful sea breezes, two nice necks and a lovely cover patio next to the pool. Pool was only for this units use. We really enjoyed the long beach view and watching the airplanes land in the distance at Beef Island Airport. You can walk down to the beach, or a very short drive. We would definitely stay again.

Good location to relax

For us it was a perfect location to unwind and relax. We enjoyed watching the planes fly in and out of Beef Island. We were also able to easily enjoy 5 beaches (via ferries). After trying to see everything we could, we spent our last day enjoying the property’s pool and peaceful location. Jan is a sweet host and we enjoyed hearing her stories. Thanks for sharing your piece of paradise!

Great location but dated

We enjoyed our time at this property which has a great location overlooking the airport. Property is dated however and could use some updates. We had an issue with water one day as the tank ran out. Screens could use repairs as the mosquitos ate us alive inside the property. Pool is nice and very deep which is rare anymore.

Beautiful place!

Mermaid Villa was a great place for a sunny island vacation. This was our first time in BVI and we found the weather perfect, the natural setting stunning and the villa private, quiet, clean and very comfortable. Every day we had to choose between a dip in the private pool or a 10-15 minute walk to a deserted white sand beach. Most days we chose both! Jan is a considerate and effective host, making our vacation relaxing and rejuvenating. The villa is even better than the VRBO listing would suggest.

Tortola Sunrises.

Janet was an excellent host. A fountain of knowledge of Tortola and its history. My wife Colleen and I enjoyed talking with her, and had a couple of dinners with her.My only concern was with the roads on the island. With the number of tourists coming and going, the local Government should do more to improve the safety for all residents on this Island, and fix the potholes!

Stunning View/Excellent Villa

We stayed at Mermaid from May10-May19 and we could not be happier with our choice. The 2 bedroom villa is well furnished and stocked with essentials. You do not always find that on VRBO rentals. The pool is great to have after a day exploring the various beaches on the island. The view is spectacular and probably the best beach Long Bay on Beef Island is a 2 minute drive down the road from the Villa. There are several good dining spots and a grocery nearby to stock your home with food and beverages. Would highly recommend this property.

Tortola Escape

Our visit to Tortola was one of relaxation and adventure! Being greeted by Jan the owner was warm and friendly and extremely informative. She has lots of knowledge of the island and surrounding areas. We enjoyed our stay at Mermaid Villa with views of Long Bay and surrounding islands. Convenient pool and patio for Al Fresco dining was a plus. Everything one needs in kitchen for in Villa meal preparation and access to laundry facilities. The Villa was spacious and comfortable. Jan was always accessible and helpful with local recommendations! She is a lovely part of this memorable vacation. We will be back to enjoy Mermaid Villa again! Thanks Jan… We ❤️ you!! Rick & Lori

Lovely Villa, Delightful Host

Our 6 days at Mermaid Villa were lovely and relaxing. The villa is extremely comfortable and well equiped, overlooking a beautiful beach. It is conveniently close to the airport and several good grocery stores. One thing that truly sets it apart is the owner, Jan Dart, who lives next door and is very responsive. Plus, as a 50 year resident of Tortola she gave us a unique pertsonal perspective on the BVI.

Calm and Quiet Get-Away

Had an excellent time and the owner was always available and even invited me to an excellent dinner. Use of a pool and a 5 minute walk to the beach was icing on the cake.

My husband and I had a wonderful 5 week stay at Mermaid Villla

Waking to the sunrising over distant Virgin Gorda and the sparkling sea reminded me I was in paradise everyday. The house has views of a half dozen islands to the south and three or four islands to the north and east, really making you feel connected to the BVI's. The big crescent of Long Bay Beach lies just below the house, a short walk down the seldom used Little Mountain Road. It's a wonderful powder sand, relatively calm swimming beach with some coral and snorkling at the ends. There are a few beach bars and chairs and umbrellas, but very few people on the beach. Local people and families mostly. The hike around Little Mountain on the paved road is about 1.2 miles with great views. Nearby Trelliss Bay is a little gem with several worthy little restaurants and the site of a fun Full Moon Festival once a month. You can also conveniently catch the ferry to Virgin Gorda and Anegada, as well as a free shuttle ferry to Scrub Island, from Trelliss. Yes, the airport is there too - but It doesn't dominate. The house is well equipped, very clean, and comfortable with large bedrooms and a big dining room table, 2 decks, big covered patio and your own sparkling pool that we used everyday. Jan, who lives in the big house on the estate, is a thoughtful landlady and knows everything about the island, it's history, and surrounding islands. She is a fabulous resource. We loved everything about our stay at the Mermaid!

Excellent time at Mermaid Villa

Loved the open air, pool and BBQ. The on site host, Jan was super helpful and went above and beyond. We were able to walk with teens to the beach to snorkel. Having a car is handy here since not alot foot accessible. We would stay here again.

Great place!

Loved our trip to this area. Jan was a great host and spent a lot of time making sure that we were taken care of. She went out of her way to give us some great restaurant advice and was always available if we needed anything. The location is perfect and has a great beach right next to it. The kids loved the pool and we would definitely stay here again!

Great location and house

Stayed with a 4 years old boy who loved the pool of course We don't have many complaints at all and Jan togeter with our neighbours Norman and Patty made the stay a terrific time. Only reason for not giving 5 stars is because we felt the house needs a bit of a makeover in some areas, which Jan most likely knows anyway. In all, a great stay and would gladly recommend the house

The real island experience

If you want to get away from the tourist thing and really experience the islands, mermaid villa is the place for you. Jan's place is on top of little mountain where you get the best views you could ask for. The villa was nice, well-equipped and even had a private pool. We did our grocery shopping just a mile down the road and the island hopping was easy due to the centralized location. Not to mention, you had a private beach a half mile away. I highly recommend mermaid villa to anyone who is looking for the true island experience.

The Five Star Reviews are TRUE

I can confirm that all the positive things that others have said in their reviews are true. I took my wife and 11 year old boy for their first visit to the Caribbean. Expectations -- especially mine -- for the prefect vacation were running high. Years ago I had stayed in West End, and that is where I first set out to find a rental for us. I hadn't even considered Beef Island. Even though on my previous visit I had never made it to that part of the island. Why would I want to stay near the airport when Long Bay (the other LB - West!) is so beautiful? Turns out, Beef Island/East End is the prettiest, quietest and cleanest part of the island. Jan's place is just lovely, with wonderful views and breezes and pretty plantings. I loved playing in the pool with my son after a day out. There are no pictures of the kitchen -- so let me assure you that it's a full functioning kitchen with absolutely everything you could ever need to cook any meal. Long Bay beach below was almost always deserted -- and it's gorgeous. Worried about the airport below? It truly does vanish into the background. We rented a car for the week and visited a bunch of other beaches; we never stayed long though -- too many people or not as nice; "let's get back to our beach!" We saw lots of nice fish in the bay and snorkeled with turtles on three consecutive days. Another huge plus is having Trellis Bay just a few minutes car drive away, with its few quaint arts shops and a couple good places to eat (huge rotis for $7). 10 Starts, not five! Thanks Jan! You're a great host.

Everything you want

My three kids (9, 10, 12) loved our Spring Break visit. The view is the best on the island, the beach was almost our private beach and when we wanted to cool off without going anywhere, we had the beautiful pool. At night there was tv and wifi. Jan is the perfect hostess.

Spring Break Treat!

It is a year later from our trip to BVI, but we have such wonderful memories , I had to write a short review. The Mermaid Villa was a lovely home, with a beautiful view. You looked down on a beach that was almost empty. The beach was easy to get to and a lovely spot. The pool was nice to take a quick dip in after a wonderful day at the beach. Jan was very helpful and took good care of the house. My husband, myself and our teenage son had a relaxing, wonderful vacation. We would go back there again!

Great house, very relaxing

Our family of 4 with two young adult children thoroughly enjoyed our 10 nights at Mermaid Villa. We wanted a quiet place to experience “life as locals”, not the typical tourist atmosphere and we found it here. It had everything we needed including snorkeling equipment, beach chair and towels which was great for enjoying both the beach and underwater life of beautiful Long Bay which is just down the road and never crowded. There were endless views of the surrounding islands from the windows and balconies of the house. It made for great sailboat, cruise ship and even small plane watching from high above, binoculars provided too. The pool was terrific and clean for cooling off anytime. We made good use of the large BBQ grill and well equipped kitchen for many of our meals. The close proximity to the airport and ferry dock worked out great. Unlike coming from the main island, there is no traffic so making our flight back was easy and quick. Ferry rides too were convenient and quick for visiting other islands, note: take the 6:30AM to Virgin Gorda to enjoy the Baths before the cruise ship masses arrive. We recommend renting a vehicle for making the short trip to Road Town for provisions as well as exploring the rest of Tortola. The hospitality of Jan, the owner, made us feel right at home and she was there if we needed anything or to ask for recommendations about local activities or shopping. We look forward to another visit in the future.

Wonderful vacation!

I'm happy to tell how great my vacation was. Jan the owner of the place, is a fantastic person, very helpful and taking care of the proprety. The house itself has everything, and is only minutes away from what I consider the most beautiful beach on Tortola. Quiet and no people, sometimes I had the entire beach for myself. The villa is located in a quiet spot, but Road Town the main settlement, is not too far away; you should rent a car and explore the whole island. Driving from the villa to Road Town is just a 20 minute drive, and you will experience amazing sceneries. I can't tell how much I am thankful for this wonderful experience, and I truly recommend this place. Thanks again for everything, if I ever return to the British Virgin Islands I will certainly stay again here.

but have lived on Little Mountain since 1972.
and after being widowed I started the rental
business. Snorkeling, diving, sailing have been my favorite things
to do, but now I concentrate on my rental business.

Why they chose this property

We chose the location on Little Mountain because it was near the airport. My husband was a pilot and we had a helicopter that we kept right on the property and used it for island hopping, we had heli-pads at some of the restaurants; visited all the beaches and flew to the USVI quite often. Of course now there are many FAA/BVI rules that would prohibit that type of flying these days but we couldn't have picked a nicer spot to live.
Not many polaces have a beach to walk to and an aiport to arrive and depart
tofrom so close. and so convernient

What makes this property unique

The view from Mermaid Villa is spectacular.
You look down on Long Bay Beach which is almost always empty. We do have cruise ship people that visit Long Bay and I find they are quiet, no noisey
music and stay a shor time. There is a reef for snorkeling off to one side and it is quite protected from the Northern swells that occur in the winter months. The road to Long Bay is paved, so you can walk down or drive to the beach. I walk my dogs to
the beach every late afternoon 7 days a week. We have several good restaurants and beaches no more than 10 minutes away, so no long drives at night. We also have one restaurant closeby that offers a shuttle. Trellis Bay nearby offers unique art and gift shops, a small grocery, and several restaurants and bars, . There are ferries to take you to many of the other islands. Nearby East End Village offers you grocery stores,
There are churches just minutes away from Little Mountain. Road Town, our Capital, is just 20 minutes away where you can shop for groceries on a larger scale. Ask about
taking a ferry to Virgin Gorda to seethe baths and other sightseeing areas.
You will want to rent a car f you want to explore Tortola and all its beaches and/or
see all the wonderful views and eat at the unique restaurants for lunch and dinner.
you can arrive by Ferry from St. Thomas (look on line for ferry schedules and make
a reservation) or arrive from Puerto Rico by plane at the Beef Island Airport.
When booking a car, other than at the airport, ask them if they will deliver to Little
Mtn. for your convenience. Askjif you can leave the car at departure parking and if
there are any fees involved.
