Guestbook comments from the owner

We were delighted to have you and your family stay in The Old Summer House. We are glad to see kids enjoy the out of doors, by the pond, riding the pedal carts or running barefoot in the yard. You are right, the firepit is only a request away. It was slow in coming out of storage due to the cool, rainy weather this spring.

Hope to see you all again.

Very picturesque, relaxing and fun for families.

This is our second stay here and we love the setting for its authenticity and tucked away feeling. The clip clip of horse and buggies passing by is lovely and the hosts are so friendly yet not intrusive. Our kids love the pedal carts, swing and playhouse!

This location allowed us to explore several areas (Strasburg, Intercourse, Hershey, etc) from a good base.

Be sure to visit Lapp's Dairy down the road in New Holland, super fun for the kids and if you go about 4-530 range you can watch the milking.

Thanks for everything, Mr. & Mrs. Stoner!

Owner's Response: One of favorite aspects of hosting a VRBO rental is seeing the delight of children as they enjoy the country. Thanks for coming!!

We truly enjoyed our stay! The owners are very friendly and accommodating. The cottage is located on over 150 acres of picturesque farmland. We look forward to our next stay at The Old Summer House.

Our Stay at The Old Summer House

  • 5 of 5

We had a very very enjoyable and relaxing time at Karen and Dennie's Old Summer House. It was everything that we thought it would be and then some. There is so much history within this location - 4 generations is hard to comprehend - Karen and Dennie has done a fantastic job with what they have.

Beautiful!!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I vacationed at th beach for the last 25 years. We used VRBO for that rental and ended up using the same property every year. now that our kids are grown, we decided to try something different, peaceful, and closer to home. Little did we know that we found our own "Little Paradise" practically in our own backyard. Your summer home is exactly what the doctor ordered! It is so quaint and beautiful and you really don't have to go anywhere for anything if you didn't want to. We only live three hours away and what we didn't know was the History that Lancaster County has to offer. When we left our house, we went without a plan. We decided we would just drive and do whatever came first. We could have spent another week and still could have found more to do! We had the best of both worlds. We had our privacy of living on a farm and we also had an opportunity of sitting out on our beach and swimming in our own home made "ocean" without driving to the ocean. The pond with the fountain is bluer than any water I have ever seen. It was as warm as bath water. The sandy water edge made you feel like you were vacationing at the beach. Your Gazebo with the screened in porch with table and chairs makes for a nice picnic lunch before swimming. We started our days very early, out of the house by 800 am and we visited all kinds of sights. We toured the pretzel factory, we went to all the different small homemade craft shops. We went to the village in Blue Bird and visited the popular 200' SHady Maple Smorgasbord, if you left there hungry, well you did something wrong lol. We then went to the gift shop downstairs which was probably the size of the entire town of Blue Bird. IT would probably take about three hours to look at everything really good. The highlight of our trip however was a 2 hour Amish horse and buggy tour. We had an Amish man take us around the back roads of Intercourse, Blue Bird, Ephrata, and Lancaster He took us to dairy farms chicken farms and a cattle farm. John gave us the entire History of the Amish and Mennonites and how and when they settled. I could keep going on and on, and to think all of this was at our back door and we never knew it. I am so sorry that we didn't get a chance to meet you in person. We left very early and when we got home and showered it was already bed time! Our children and their spouses would like to see this home that we bragged about also. You will be seeing us again!
