About Joe Kelly

My wife and I live 100 yds away in a log cabin we built ourselves in 1979. We've owned this property since 1975. We're both retired, Karen from the hospital and Joe as a biologist with the BLM in Wenatchee. We have horses, irrigated alfalfa and cut our own hay. We are experienced in all the local hiking and backpacking trails in the Entiat Ranger District. We can direct you to the best mountain biking, xc ski and snowmobiling trails.

Joe Kelly purchased this cabin in 1975

Why Joe Kelly chose Entiat

We built this cabin new in 1996 after a huge 1994 Tyee Wildfire burned through our property. The recovery since the fire is amazing. You can easily see the 18 yr old fire scars, as well as the young forest growing back.

What makes this cabin unique

The peace and quiet in a rural setting is the best anywhere. Lots of wildlife viewings. Wolf sighting capital of Chelan county. Best place ever to watch beavers at work. Very close to xc ski trails and snowmobiling. You'll wish you lived here year round.

Beautiful scenery, wonderful hosts

  • 5 of 5

The property is located in a beautiful area. At night, the stars are bright and the crickets chirp. There are some great hikes just up the road and a nice secluded swimming spot just a few minutes away. The drive into the property, along the shores of Lake Entiat, is breathtaking. The owners were very pleasant and helpful. The property is well described in the owner's description. It is a bit remote - if you are looking to get away from the daily hustle, this is your spot!

Tranquil and inviting

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here for 3 nights/4 days just to get out of town and relax and brush up on my sketching and this was exactly what I needed. No cell service or wifi which was incredibly refreshing if you have a hard time relaxing like myself. I fell in love with the spot on the river up the road that Joe referred me to-- I had the whole river to myself for some swimming and sunbathing. The cabin is much larger than I had expected and the downstairs bedroom is air-conditioned which, during the 100 degree weather was very nice, although the cabin itself didn't get too hot. Mornings on the front porch with a cup of coffee and the occasional company of Finn the family dog were the best. Thank you Karen and Joe! I will be visiting again!

Urban "detox" for the whole family!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 4 including myself, my wife, and our two kids (8 and 9 years-old) stayed at this wonderful cabin for 3 nights and 4 days over Spring Break. Our (the parents) goal was to have a some real family time without cell phones, video games or other electronic distractions. No TV, satellite, or cell phone service here! As nervous as I was (we're fairly "plugged in" normally), this was a GREAT decision and this cabin was perfect! The cabin was very comfortable and just the perfect amount of rustic. Of course we had electricity, hot water, a bathroom with shower, and a fully stocked kitchen (bring your own food) so we had the essential modern conveniences. The beds were comfy and the kids especially loved the loft! We ate breakfasts and dinners on the front porch and watched the kids practice archery, fly kites, and play with the puppy in the field in front of the cabin. Bring some carrots and apples for the horses too!

The setting was beautiful and the kids fell in love with the horses and the resident puppy, Finn. There were deer to be seen every morning and evening and we especially liked the short walk up the driveway to the biggest beaver dam we've ever seen! We finally saw a couple of beavers inspecting the dam around sunset one evening. If you can find it (Joe will help), there's a "skid trail" that will take you up to the top of the large hill where the views are fantastic and even more deer can be found! On the trip, we spotted deer, beavers, mountain goats, and bald eagles. It's been a long time since I've seen starts like the ones in these dark skies… amazing!

Although this is the perfect place to re-connect with the family without the gizmos interfering, there are places within an easy drive to quickly make sure modern civilization still exists! :-) We drove into Leavenworth and to Chelan within an hour for sightseeing. There's a small convenience store 5 minutes down the road and a grocery store 15 minutes away.

We HIGHLY recommend this cabin to anyone who wants to get away from it all for a few days but still be in easy driving distance to the "big city". The owners are very helpful and yet mindful of your privacy. The setting is serene and the cabin very comfortable. Unplug and unwind for a few days, it may just surprise you how good it feels!

So Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time at the cabin. It was so nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. No cell phones, no computer, ahhhh it doesn't get much better than that. I love the library and the fact that there is not television service. I was forced to read and explore and loved every minute of it. The Wenatchee Forest about 10 - 15 miles up the river is great to explore and I am excited to return soon.

We watched the sky every night, Friday and Saturday lightening storm and Sunday/Monday meteor showers. It is centrally located so we could go to Chelan one day and Leavenworth the next. Or just go down to Entiat City Park and relax at the Columbia River.

I also brought a lot of things I did not need as the kitchen is very well stocked with cooking utensils.

Thank you Karen and Joe we had a wonderful trip.

Peaceful cabin

  • 5 of 5

The peaceful serenity of the setting was exactly what we were looking for. We spent 3 nights at the cabin and had a great time. The cabin was well appointed and allowed for privacy and relaxation. Joe and Karen Kelly were very hospitable and helpful in supplying information on local sites and area history.

We will definitely return again when our schedules permit. Thank you Joe and Karen.
