Excellent value self-catering chalet with veranda, private garden and parking
On the ground floor is an en-suite double bedroom with underfloor heating and a large south-facing window looking onto the patio. A single mattress can be placed on the floor for extra flexibility in the sleeping arrangements. The attached bathroom has WC, travertine tiling and basin, solid oak unit, shower and underfloor heating. With two single beds and a small window offering valley views, the mezzanine is reached by a spiral staircase from the lounge/dining room - note that these beds have very limited head room due to a sloping roof. The mezzanine is open on one side to the lounge below but a wooden balcony is in place for safety. The mezzanine leads via a low-ceilinged corridor to a separate twin room with extra folding bed, under the eaves. The room is well lit with a floor to ceiling south-facing window. Second bathroom with bath, WC and basin. N.B. There are no bunk beds in the property but please note the low ceiling height in the loft - the rental prices reflect this

About Cathy Harlow
I studied Spanish at university in Scotland and then lived for several years in Italy and Iceland before settling in Cumbria in the north of England. My work in the travel industry as a freelance writer and guide takes me to many amazing places but for scenery I still think the Alps are hard to beat. I come to stay in the chalet four times a year, sometimes to ski and hike with friends and family but also on my own to enjoy just being there. There's something about big snowy mountains that I've always found irresistible. Even doing the routine jobs - cutting the hedge, varnishing the windows and scrubbing the decking down - become a pleasure when you've got those views all around you. My caretaker lives nearby and gets the chalet ready for my guests' arrival. I love the fact that my guests have come from all over the world - not only Britain, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Romania and Switzerland, but South Africa, India, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Canada, Brazil and the USA!

Why Cathy Harlow chose Les Houches
I've always had a passion for mountains, wild places and big views. When I started looking for a place in the French Alps I wanted easy access from the UK and to be close to different skiing and hiking areas. The Chamonix Valley offered both, and you've got Italy and Switzerland on the doorstep too. This cosy little chalet was the first and only place I looked at - I fell in love with it, bought it and that was that! Four years and a lot of hard work down the line I know it was the right decision. Throughout my renovations to the chalet I've tried to retain its character and charm but updated the kitchen, bathroom and furnishings to make them more practical. I love the house, the garden and the views and I always feel happy there. I also like the Chamonix Valley - it's cosmopolitan and buzzing, yet very French and Savoyard.
What makes this Chalet unique
It's the open sunny aspect and the great views in all directions, especially looking up at Mt Blanc. In summer I enjoy sitting out on the veranda at sunset watching the peaks glow gold, orange, red and finally pink.
