Charming private apartment in the hearth of Venice, finely furnished, quiet and comfortable. Encased by canals and a private courtyard (magnificent Corte Zorzi) allowing access to the building, Astarte apart is absolutely quiet as it is sheltered by any possible hustle and bustle of tourists.
Anyway the area is not a massive touristic path, it is an hidden corner just behind Saint_Mark’s square.
Typical “battuto veneziano” floors, ceiling beams and Murano glass chandliers, within a magnificent canal view over a secondary canal where just gondolas are allowed to navigate, bring guests in a real and agreeable venetian atmosphere.
Astarte equipment allow guests to prepare any meal for an easy self-catering.

Better than it looks in the pictures
Great location in Venice.
We stayed here with our two kids (ages 8 and 10) and had a great time. We decided on a VRBO rather than hotel to avoid being crammed into a small room together.
The photos make the apartment appear shabby and I wasn't expecting much; it was actually much nicer and more updated than we expected. There is just some old furniture that makes it all appear older. It is very spacious, with a modern kitchen and comfortable beds (Trundle beds in kids' room).
We chose this place based on its proximity to San Marco (stone's throw), two bedrooms, and view. Having windows overlooking the canal was great. Despite proximity to the crowds and bustle of San Marco, it is in a very quiet location on a little private square. Thee is no street noise and the building is very quiet with friendly neighbors.
I found the booking to be disjointed. You have to pay with Paypal (unlike most VRBO places which accept credit cards). We made a Paypal deposit, then payed the rest in cash at arrival. You talk to numerous people who have some hand in the management (Andrea, Roberto, and Matilda for us) but they are all very responsive and helpful. I thought we were meeting Roberto at the Rialto vaporetto stop and we were texting with him that morning, but Matilda was the one who met us and led us to the apartment. She was a very helpful guide. We had no problems with the place at all except for the Wifi went down, which Roberto got fixed right away.
Overall, I would highly recommend this apartment for a stay in Venice. Some of the negative reviews seem ridiculous after staying here.
Enjoyed our stay immensely. Owner was easy to work with and Mathilde met us at the vaporetto stop just as promised to escort us to the apartment. Clean, comfortable, and right on the water - couldn't ask for anything more!
Nice apartment in a great location. Very close to St. Mark’s Square.
Our interactions with the owner and getting on and off the island were wonderful. Matilde gave us great restaurant recommendations and was very welcoming. Roberto was easy to communicate with and responsive, which was helpful as it was our first time there.
Canal views and great location
This apartment was very comfortable (especially the beds!) and the location is hard to beat as it is just steps from Piazza San Marco and the Grand Canal. Matilda was very friendly and helpful. I hope to return one day!
Well featured property in great location
All communication was prompt and friendly. Met & escorted to property by Matilda, who was warm, friendly & informative. The property was as described, clean, roomy, beds comfortable & backing on to the canal. We loved the location, as a family of four with two young children it was great to have such a conveniently located apartment so little legs could rest before heading out again. The patisserie near by was amazing & the gelato bar outside the apartment was definitely a highlight for our children !!!
Good location- and that's alll.
The apartment was clean and the location ideal. Mathilda was very pleasant and tried to be helpful. She arranged the vaporetto for our departure. Unfortunately, after that the best I can say is it was "bare bones". The furniture is very outdated and beds were very uncomfortable. The frame of the double bed kept moving from side to side and we needed to put a cushion in the footboard area to keep the pillows on the bed. There are MANY, STEEP steps so beware if you have limitations or heavy luggage. There was barely enough toilet paper, for two couples, no paper towels and only one small trash bag. We won't stay there again.
Dear Guest, thank u for your kind Review. Guests are very different from each other that's why Reviews cannot be all equally positive.
Anyway who reads can easily deduce guest's typology by what they report and consequently give the right weight to. In your case a capital letters written compliant about the few apart easy stairs when it is clearly marked it is an (European) 1st floor, the most comfortable access u can find in Venice where a ground floor (US 1st floor) is not suitable because of humidity and "high water" sounds a bit specious. Maybe your "nescience" about the difference between US and European 1st floor could explain it. Maybe the frame of the double bed moved (just with u) because of high wight it had to substain. Other generic compliants are outline. Finally I personally do not find a clear reasons explaining your severe judgement.
Thank u for your appreciation about cleanliness, location and good service.

Hearth of Venice, few meters from St. Marc square, perfect for an easy sight-seeing. A private internal XVI Cent. Venetian courtyard (Corte Zorzi) allow access to the building and also shelter the apart from any possible tourist’s hustle and bustle. In fact the apart is absolutely quiet. Charming view on the nice canal behind its windows (Canale Orseolo) where just gondolas are allowded to navigate all day long (gondolas deposit and main departure area is 50 meters far).
