Wonderful, warm and comfortable home.
We stayed for three nights on our way home to Northern Virginia from visiting colleges with our high school sons in North Carolina. This house is wonderful. It is located in a beautiful and very historic area near Orange, Virginia. The owners have done an excellent job maintaining its authenticity while making it a comfortable getaway. We enjoyed walking around the property and our oldest son was able to practice casting with his new fly rod (too early in the year for catching) in two of the three ponds on the property.
There is also much to do in the nearby towns. We toured Montpellier, and the tour guide even shared anecdotes about the connections and history of this property to the larger Madison estate. We were also able to head up to the Shenandoah National Park for a day, which is not far from this location.
Our teenage boys even loved it - and they are teenage boys. We wanted to stay longer which is always an indication of how great a place is. We would recommend it to any family or couple interested in getting away for a peaceful vacation.
Lovely historic home in the midst of stunning scenery.
From the moment we arrived, we were caught up in the ambience of this relaxing beautiful oasis. All calls were promptly returned, and we felt very welcome. We loved how clean and thoughtfully decorated this sweet home was. The beds were incredibly comfortable, as well! We will certainly recommend this historic cottage and plan to return for the chauffeured wine tour!
Cozy and quaint!
We loved our time at the cottage and took advantage of walking the beautiful grounds! The hosts were quick and helpful and Kind!We hope to visit again!
A true home away from home!
We LOVE this place! The bed in the master is better than our bed at home! The views in the fog were magical and the location can not be better!
Beautifully refinished old summer kitchen
Very nice accommodations. Lovely grounds & better than any hotel. We love history, wish there was more history of the cottage & pictures of before and after the renovation. Could have done a little better job clearing cob webs & spiders before stay our stay, but overall loved it.
Thank you so much for your review. We are so pleased you enjoyed the accommodations. We are also so sorry that our cleaning crew failed to prepare the cottage correctly. We certainly work for a deep clean between each guest and in this case we missed the mark. Should you ever stay with us again and do not find the cottage cleaned to your satisfaction please call and we will have someone right over to straighten things up. We strive for 5 star accommodations sorry in this case we missed the mark.
Beautifully renovated historic home
A beautiful stay from the minute you drive on to the property. The owners did a commendable job on updating the home to modern standards, but also keeping unique aspects of the original home. My favorite parts of the house were the porch and fireplaces. Would love to come back again!
The main house is potentially available for weekend rentals for Woodberry Forest Graduation, or a destination wedding. Please call if you have an interest.
