An immersive special place

We stayed here over Christmas and New Years for 16 days with our two sons aged 24 and 18. This is an authentic village house that has been renovated but has not lost its charm. The furniture and decor reflected someone's home. The house had Christmas decorations in place for us. On arrival there was fruit, biscuits, wine, raki, local olive oil there for us. Maria and Thomas who were our village contacts were exceptional. They run the village store and are extremely helpful. The village is in a good location to get to places whilst being off the main tourist places. The tavernas of the village and in the surrounding villages were all worth the visit. Authentic cooking, frequented by locals at local prices. We loved it. You do need a car.

Nice and Well-Equipped Apartment, a Few Things to Consider

The apartment was clean and well-equipped. The owners do their best to make you feel welcome. We were generally happy here. The apartment's main area is on the ground floor, along with one bedroom (queen size bed), and there are two more bedrooms (one queen size bed and two separate beds) on the top floor. The ground floor is fairly dark, you'll often need to turn on some lights (a cold, white light). The ground floor bedroom has no windows. Its missing ventilation unfortunately gives it a bit of a stale smell. But it's the quietest and coolest room to sleep in, in terms of temperature. In the summer, the top floor rooms get quite hot even at night. You can open the window to let some cool air in but in the queen size bedroom, the window faces the nearby highway so you will need quite some noise tolerance. On the other hand, all bedrooms have an air con installed. If you don't mind spending the energy and running them all night, you won't face any of these issues. The floors are connected by a steep staircase. One of us fell down the stairs at night. Luckily just bruises. Hold on to the handrails! Cats and dogs will wander the backyard. They are nice but we left some shoes outside and one of them went missing the next morning. Parking is a few meters up the hill, shared with the neighbours. It's not obvious where to park without blocking someone, be sure to ask around. Overall, we had a good time in Limnes and Crete. Check out the local restaurants, they're great!

Le charme de la tradition, l'expérience de l'hospitalité cretoise

Nous avons apprécié le temps passé dans cette maison témoin de l architecture traditionnelle, décorée avec beaucoup de goût, très propre et confortable. Les contacts avant notre arrivée ont été excellents, la disponibilité et la générosité de Maria nous ont beaucoup touchés.

A little gem

What a great village house, we all thoroughly enjoyed staying there and hope to be able to return . The village was a lovely place to wander around with all its narrow streets and the villagers were all very friendly. The two village tavernas were excellent, really good food and very good value for money. Maria and her family were all very welcoming and did all they could to ensure we had a good time. Position wise the village is about 15/20 mins from the beach at Ammadoura which is a lovely beach with beds and brollies if required and tavernas. It was easy to access the mountains and across to the coast around Plaka. Also only about 50 mins to the other side of Heraklion- the new road is very good. We had a wonderful time in Limnes and the house was great, can’t wait to return. Thank you Maria.

Perfekte Unterkunft einer super Vermieterin

Schönes altes Haus, behutsam renoviert, liebevoll eingerichtet. Es ist alles vor Ort was man braucht. Für den üblichen Einkauf oder wenn in der Wohnung doch was fehlen sollte ist der ortseigene Supermarkt von Limnes sehr nah und schnell und leicht zu Fuß zu erreichen. Wir sind oft in den engen Gassen des schönen Dorfes spazieren gegangen und fühlten uns sofort willkommen, und schon nach wenigen Tagen auch heimisch. Insbesondere die Vermieterin Maria, aber auch die anderen Einwohner, waren immer gut gelaunt, höflich und aufgeschlossen. Zunächst hatten wir etwas Bammel, dass wir die nahe gelegene Schnellstraße nachts hören könnten. Das war aber keineswegs der Fall, denn das Olive Valley House liegt an einem Hang und somit ein gutes Stück tiefer als die Schnellstraße, zudem schirmen die Nachbarhäuser ab. Wir konnten abends problemlos im idyllischen Hinterhof sitzen und in aller Ruhe die Sterne genießen. Beim nächsten Kreta-Besuch werden wir auf alle Fälle wieder vorbeischauen!

Paradise Regained

For us this was a return home. We stayed at Olive Valley House in 2017 and had been longing to return. It's a beautifully renovated authentic Cretan village house in a star village, tastefully decorated with objects of domestic use in the last two centuries (the HomeAway photos are accurate and helpful). Everything necessary is provided and spotlessly clean. The hosts who met us were extremely warm, helpful and friendly, presenting us with a beautiful bowl of fruit, and with wine and ouzo as welcoming gifts. We had no problems, but were confident of available help if it had been needed. It was hot (up to 35) when we were there, but the air conditioners keep it cool indoors. There is in general something special in the hospitality and generosity of the Cretan people we have met, and this place and the people who look after it are exceptional only in their extra degree of it. We shall be back as soon as we can.

Immerson dans un joli village typique crétois

Accueil chaleureux de Maria et de Litsa. Maison tres agréable bien équipée, et décoree avec soin. Le village est tres typique et dispose de trés bonnes tavernes. Très bon emplacement pour rayonner dans la region y compris jusqu'à Héraklion. Tres bonne expérience partagée avec Litsa au festival Olive mill fest à Sissi. En résumé, une excellente adresse !

Vacanza a Creta

La casa è situata nel piccolo paese di Limnes, ci sono sia un minimarket che 3 locali caratteristici per mangiare. È vicino alla strada che va da Heraklion a Agios Nicolò. La casa è ben tenuta e con tutto il necessario. La padrona di casa è molto disponibile. Ci siamo trovati benissimo.

Charming property in quiet village

We arrived in Limnes at the dead of night, however the wonderful Poppy generously met us in nearby Neapoli and lead us to the house at about 230am, which was greatly appreciated. The final roads to the house get pretty narrow and uneven, ensuring a peace and seclusion once you're there. She visited again in the morning with welcome advice and suggestions of what to see and do. The living and dining areas are pretty and there are lots of family artifacts, photos and sundry objects of interest to give the place character. The kitchen has everything needed. The downstairs bedroom was a good size and the bathroom adequate for the four of us; more people might need to come to some kind of arrangements in the mornings and evenings about when to get a shower :) The stairs are quite steep, but once on the first floor, the double room is just like the one downstairs (being directly above it) and the twin room is open to the stairs. The balcony/terrace is particularly wonderful in the mornings and evenings (facing as it does some formidable heat in the day), but do note that it is accessed up the stairs and through the twin room - meals need to be brought up stairs and through; early risers may need to tip toe depending on who sleeps where! The air conditioning works perfectly. The village is really charming - people were so welcoming and friendly. We were invited in to homes, met grandchildren and given coffee just for saying "Kalispera" on our way to dinner! Both tavernas are really enjoyable - the busier of the two probably being a little better. Both are incredibly cheap in comparison with other towns - four of us ate for under E50. Nearby towns, beaches and attractions are all easily reached as the new national road is close by. you'll find places of your own you love, but Malia beach and Archeological Site and Agios Nikolaus are wonderful. Nearby Elounda is also fantastic - Spinalonga is in the bay and many excursions set out from there. Highly recommended, then, especially if you are looking to explore the area rather than be tied down to one location. Thanks for a wonderful week.

Typique et pratique !

super accueil de Poppy, § nous avons eu visite du village et de la ville voisine avec suggestions de restauration, suggestions de visites. La maison est très jolie, typique et pleine de charme dans un village tout aussi typique. Elle est très bien équipée et fonctionnelle. super séjour à Olive Valley House.

Nous avons passé un très bon séjour dans la belle maison rénovée de Poppy. La maison située dans un village traditionnel est une bonne base pour visiter la région. Maison très propre et bien équipée EXCELLENT accueil de Poppy. Nous recommandons vivement cette location Une famille française de Savoie (Yves, Marie Christine, Céline et Alexis)

This is a wonderful house to stay in. It is on the edge of a very typical Crete village close to Neapoli, and has been carefully and tastefully modernised from a traditional Cretan stone cottage. It is about 50 minutes from Heraklion, 15 from Ayios Nikolaos and 7 from Neapoli. A car is essential, but gives one access to all of Crete east of Heraklion and to at least part of it to the west. The photos show primarily the living room (kitchen, dining and easy-chair areas of a single long room), which has been recently decorated and comfortably furnished using traditional materials and objects; the three bedrooms (2 double, 1 twin) are spacious, comfortable and well-furnished. All rooms have air-conditioners. The whole was spotlessly clean and fully equipped with all one could need. After a day out, it felt each time as a place one really looked forward to returning to. The caretaker, Poppy, is a very friendly person, who, despite our late arrival at 3.30 a.m., after a delayed flight, met us at Neapoli, showed us the route from there and round the house, and had put a beautiful bowl of fruit for us in the fridge. She supplied much detailed local information about places to visit, advice on where to shop, etc, and repeatedly asked us to contact her by phone if we needed anything else. Above all she made us very warmly and genuinely welcome. There are not as many renovated original houses available for holiday rent in Crete as we expected. We have rented properties of similar kind in other countries, and this was one of the best we have ever seen. Compared with the dense concrete jungle we saw advertised on the Malia area coast, this was paradisal. We were very sad to leave it and would advise speedy booking!

petite maison sympa dans un vieux village

Merci à Poppy, ainsi qu'à Liza et Paulus pour leur accueil . Petite maison traditionnelle en bordure d'un vieux village ne pas hésiter à aller diner aux tavernes du village ( pas avt 20H30 ou 21h) Mais le soir la terrasse de la maison est également très agréable. petites rues étroites où on rencontre plein de gens sympas . La position de Limnes est intéressante pour accéder à de nombreux endroits , et aussi bien sur la cote nord que sud . Une petite superette au village et tout ce qu'il faut à Néapoli à 5mn en voiture . Maison parfaite pour nous 5 du 28 /06 au 3/07 XILAV P
