Overview

About the property

Remotely located lodge sleeps 6. Get back in touch with nature.

Welcome to Double Eagle Lodge located remotely in the heart of Michigan's pristine Upper Peninsula. Escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life with a trip into the great outdoors. No cellphone reception or Internet connection allows you to relax in the quiet of nature. This quaint log cabin is located on the shores of Long Lake. Though the lodge is 13 miles from the nearest electricity source, the solar panels and back up generator charge the battery bank to give the comforts of home while preserving the natural sounds of the surroundings. This log cabin sleeps six total, with four single beds in the loft and a queen size bed in the private bedroom downstairs. The cabin is equipped with indoor plumbing including a flush toilet and a shower, as well as a fully functioning kitchen. There is a separate building for the propane fired sauna and a second shower.

With the exception of the owner’s cabin there are no other cabins on the lake. Long lake has excellent fishing with Walleye, Bass, Perch and Northern Pike, which are the most predominant fish. If one is quiet, there are plenty of wildlife to catch a glimpse of such as moose, deer, bear, wolves, coyote, beaver, otter and many birds – including bald eagles nesting nearby. If you enjoy kayaking or canoeing, one can paddle up and downstream until beaver dams are reached. One can hike, mountain bike, swim, snowshoe, and snowmobile all day and may not see another human. Finally, at the end of the day everyone can relax sitting around the fire pit watching the sunset and roasting S'mores. Once the fire dies down the night is truly dark with no influence of city lights. The stars are incredibly clear and bright!

Available on the property for your use are 2 kayaks with paddles, a paddle boat, and a fishing boat! What else could you ask for.

We loved our stay and had a great time. Also the caretaker of the property is great guy. I have nothing but good things to say about the stay and the property. We would love to return in the future. The owners are blessed with the perfect property. Thank you for the great stay.

Owner's Response: We are SO glad you had a great time. There are not very many wild places left and we want others to experience the incredable beauty of the area. A place to relax.

Unplug and unwind

  • 5 of 5

Double Eagle is the perfect place to unplug from the world. The cabin is beautiful with all the comforts of home except for internet and cell coverage. The drive into the cabin takes about 40 minutes from the highway.

Owner's Response: Lara thanks for being our guest! There are so few places where you can truly "unplug". We feel this is a definite plus for Double Eagle. It allows you to have a break from the screen & draws your attention to others & to the great outdoors. Hope you come again. Laura Songer Double Eagle Lodge

Awesome

  • 5 of 5

We had an awesome time. Because we were off the grid for the most part we were able to disconnect from technology and the stress of home/work and focus on connecting as a family. The property is beautiful, the cabin is cozy, and the amenities are great.

Owner's Response: We are glad you enjoyed your stay Sarah! There are so few places left in this country where you can get away from it all. Technology disconnect at Double Eagle allows you to enjoy pure silence and genuine conversation.

Awesome time!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I spent a week in early July at this cabin and had the most amazing time. The cabin was clean, well stocked and very comfortable. The land and lake were more beautiful than i could have imagined. The owners and caretaker were very friendly and extremely helpful. They couldn't have made our stay and more comfortable.

The cabin's location is what every person seeking to "get away" would dream of. Not to mention the person looking to view wildlife and do a bit of fishing (Which we were).

The only homes on the lake are this cabin and it's owners home. So the fishing pressure on the lake is very minimal. If you're looking for some exciting pike and bass fishing, this is your place. They say there's walleye in the lake too, although we didn't target them. There are also many fine trout streams within a short drive if you are looking to do a bit of fly fishing. Overall, we had an outstanding time and would recommend it to anyone looking to truly get off the main road.

Away From It All

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful place to stay and enjoy the nature. The listing doesn't do the justice to how much "away from it all" this comfortable lodge really is - in the middle of a vast forest. The lake is wonderful.

The glory of the Creator is truly revealed through the majesty of the nature.

Thank you

Early June Fishing Excursion

  • 5 of 5

I booked Double Eagle for my adult son, my adult

nephew, and myself. The cabin was well appointed and on a great point overlooking part of the lower end of Long Lake. It had plenty of space for us, ample electricity from the solar panels, a well equipped kitchen, and an adequate wood burning stove (with a great supply of wood) for a couple of cool evenings. There is a wonderful fire pit just down from the cabin toward the lake, but due to an unusual spring of mosquitos in the UP, we didn't use it. We also didn't use the sauna as we fished during most available times. The fishing was very good for largemeouth bass and pike. We landed a few smallmouth, but they were harder to find. The walleyes couldn't be found if they are in fact in the lake. There is also a huge rock bass population and some perch. We fished the river at the north end as far up as we could go in kayaks and did well, especially with the bass. The cabin comes with a decent 12 foot or so "row boat" as well as an elecrtric motor and battery to power it. There is a battery charger in the garage. There are even seat cushions hanging in the garage. The two kayaks are top notch--12 foot Wilderness Systems sit in type, but with room for a small tackle box. Life jackets are already here as well. The dock is about 150 feet away from the cabin and is very small and at a shallow part of the shore. This is the one thing I'd improve upon if I owned the property. The owner, Laura, was very helpful via e-mail as our trip approached. The caretaker, Clay, came to see us early upon our arrival and was helpful with any questions that we had on how to use anything there. We actually had some cell phone service from time to time, but it was very limited. We were able to text most times. We did go back into Amasa once for some bait. The trip in and out is kind of fun itself as you traverse through some fairly primitive surroundings. On one occasion, we drove to Bone Lake which is south of Long to try our hand at fishing here as well. It is a very good largemouth bass lake. We really didn't pursue other species here so I can't comment on them. All in all, we had a great trip and would do this one again. By the way, all of our fishing was catch and release. We'd like to come back here some day and be able to catch as many as we did this time. I give this property and the value for the money a solid 5 stars. Thanks, Laura and Clay!
