Overview

About the property

Remotely located lodge sleeps 6. Get back in touch with nature.

Welcome to Double Eagle Lodge located remotely in the heart of Michigan's pristine Upper Peninsula. Escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life with a trip into the great outdoors. No cellphone reception or Internet connection allows you to relax in the quiet of nature. This quaint log cabin is located on the shores of Long Lake. Though the lodge is 13 miles from the nearest electricity source, the solar panels and back up generator charge the battery bank to give the comforts of home while preserving the natural sounds of the surroundings. This log cabin sleeps six total, with four single beds in the loft and a queen size bed in the private bedroom downstairs. The cabin is equipped with indoor plumbing including a flush toilet and a shower, as well as a fully functioning kitchen. There is a separate building for the propane fired sauna and a second shower.

With the exception of the owner’s cabin there are no other cabins on the lake. Long lake has excellent fishing with Walleye, Bass, Perch and Northern Pike, which are the most predominant fish. If one is quiet, there are plenty of wildlife to catch a glimpse of such as moose, deer, bear, wolves, coyote, beaver, otter and many birds – including bald eagles nesting nearby. If you enjoy kayaking or canoeing, one can paddle up and downstream until beaver dams are reached. One can hike, mountain bike, swim, snowshoe, and snowmobile all day and may not see another human. Finally, at the end of the day everyone can relax sitting around the fire pit watching the sunset and roasting S'mores. Once the fire dies down the night is truly dark with no influence of city lights. The stars are incredibly clear and bright!

Available on the property for your use are 2 kayaks with paddles, a paddle boat, and a fishing boat! What else could you ask for.

Absolutely AMAZING!!

  • 5 of 5

We rented the cabin for a quiet get away for our family and we had just that. Double Eagle Lodge provided the upmost comfort and all the luxuries of home. The hosts were very accommodating and made sure everything was perfect. It was peacefully quiet along with being absolutely gorgeous. We were unplugged for the most part which felt amazing. The lake was beautiful! Though we didn't get to see the eagles we had a blast enjoying the scenery and nature. This is the perfect place to stay if you need to relax or reconnect. I cannot say enough about the Lodge. I have already recommended it to all of our family and friends, and look forward to coming back in the near future.

We'll be returning

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent 3 days and 4 nights at Double Eagle, and it was wonderful, exactly what I was looking for. An isolated, comfortable cabin on a wilderness lake in the middle of nowhere. We had the whole lake to ourselves and saw not a single soul the entire time that we were there. We swam, hiked, kayaked, picked berries, read, relaxed and slept. Although I did not fish, I have to believe that the fishing is very good given the size of the lake and the lack of fishing pressure (ie we didn't see anyone).

Solitude! We had a wonderful stay at Double Eagle Lodge. It was great to unwind and relax!

  • 5 of 5

We kayaked every day on the pristine lake and saw turtles and eagles. The quiet solitude this location provides is so restoring. The lodge is remote, but with a fully stocked kitchen, all linens and towels provided, a screened in porch, wood stove, outdoor fire pit, and a sauna! Clay, the caretaker, was so helpful and kind. Lovely property and cabin. Would definitely return!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for choosing us for your wilderness vacation. There are very few places around that are this remote and peaceful! As we always say... "we love it here and enjoy sharing it with you". Double Eagle Lodge

Very secluded and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic stay at Double Eagle Lodge! It was amazingly peaceful, the bed was comfortable, and the screened in porch was perfect for enjoying coffee in the early morning stillness, or sitting in near complete darkness listening to the sounds of the night. This was probably my favorite part of the cabin.

We saw very few other vehicles on the roads to/from the cabin, and only saw a couple people fishing on the lake. Otherwise, the cabin is pretty far removed from civilization. Once you arrive, there are no sounds of cars, highways, or cell phone notifications - just the wind in the trees, birds, and other wildlife sounds.

You will take approximately 10 miles of gravel roads to the cabin before turning into the "driveway" which was perhaps a little nicer than a two-track. There were no large pot holes or bumps, but down the middle was tall grass. We drove a small, low-riding vehicle for our trip, and some of the grass/weeds were taller than the nose of our car! This did not stop us, but it was very slow going. Cars with a normal/standard ground clearance should have no problem with the driveway.

We didn't have time to take boats out, but we greatly enjoyed swimming in the lake. I recommend water shoes, as the bottom is quite rocky. There is a dock, but no beach area.

Laura and Matt were great, communication was great, and I would absolutely recommend staying here, especially if you need to unwind and disconnect.

Great Winter Weekend Getaway

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I stayed here in February and while there was quite a lot of snow, the owners and caretaker went above and beyond to make sure we had access to everything the property has to offer. Because of its remoteness we didn't see or hear a single soul for three days, which was just fine for us! Enjoying the silence of a winter forest is a true pleasure. The cabin is well furnished and comfy, and was just the right size for the two of us and our dog. The wood stove kept the place toasty warm without need of turning up the thermostat.

The kitchen is well stocked, though lacking in some modern amenities like an electric mixer. That's really not a huge problem, though, and we were able to cook all our meals, including home-made pasta and bread, with the equipment that was there.

My only complaint for our stay is regarding the water. There is so much iron in it that just the smell of it made me nauseous. There's really nothing the owners would be able to do about this since it's just the way the water is, and one just needs to pick up some bottled water at the convenience store on the way in; no big issue.

There's no internet or cell reception, which took some getting used to, but was a blessing. We read, we cooked, we snow-shoed and we sauna'd. It was the very definition of relaxing and we hope to visit again next winter.

Owner's Response: Mike, We are so glad you had a good time at Double Eagle Lodge! Winter can be amazingly beautiful in its quiet, white solitude. Since we are 12 miles "off the grid" and all the electricity is supplied by solar with generator back up, we try to conserve energy...that's why we have few electric appliances. I should get a hand mixer...Just for the whipped cream:) Believe it or not but we just installed a whole house water filter last spring. Welcome to "Iron Country"! Thanks for letting us know about the water. We will be changing the filter more often in hopes that will help. We are eager to solve the problem since that stuff is really hard to get off of the shower! Thanks again for your comments and we hope to be seeing you again soon! Laura Songer Double Eagle Lodge

Unplug and unwind

  • 5 of 5

Double Eagle is the perfect place to unplug from the world. The cabin is beautiful with all the comforts of home except for internet and cell coverage. The drive into the cabin takes about 40 minutes from the highway.

Owner's Response: Lara thanks for being our guest! There are so few places where you can truly "unplug". We feel this is a definite plus for Double Eagle. It allows you to have a break from the screen & draws your attention to others & to the great outdoors. Hope you come again. Laura Songer Double Eagle Lodge
