About John Stoltzfus

Ruthie was born in the Village of Intercourse. Her parents were both brought up in the Amish church but left the Amish church when she was two years old and joined a Mennonite church.

Her family spoke Pennsylvania Dutch and her parents continued to speak 'Dutch' to each other throughout their life. Grandparents and some extended family members remained Amish and therefore, she was very comfortable in their homes and grew up understanding their customs.

John was also brought up Amish in a family of nine, his dad was a farmer on a 140 acre dairy farm. John left the Amish church at age 21 and joined the same Mennonite church that Ruthie attended. We now attend Keystone Evangelical Free Church.

We have two children and five beautiful grandchildren.

John Stoltzfus purchased this house in 2006

Why John Stoltzfus chose Dutch Country

We bought this property to provide our guests with a clean, cozy 'home away from home.' Both homes have hand painted murals on the walls.

The Vacation House offers a fully equipped kitchen, a laundry room with a washer and dryer, large dining room, large living room with a sofa bed and cable TV with a DVD and VHS player and free WIFI. Two bedrooms [both with a queen and single bed], one full bath and a powder room in the front bedroom and a pack and play. It also has a flag stone porch to sit and watch the horse and buggies go by.

The Cottage [Dawdi Haus] is a great room with two queen beds and a full bathroom with a shower, sitting area with table and chairs, sofa bed, refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, toaster oven, cable TV with a DVD and VHS player and free WIFI. It has a wonderful porch with a swing that is perfect for relaxing and watching the horse and buggies go by.

For more Cottage information and calendar go to the Amish Guest House Cottage link

Both facilities are air conditioned and provide telephones with free local calls, free WIFI and a light continental breakfast.

What makes this house unique

What we hear a lot from our guests is their love of seeing and hearing the Amish horse and buggies going by as they sit on the porch. We have a double glider in the back yard to relax on and also flower gardens. There is a working old fashioned hand pump that the children enjoy playing with and that adults also enjoy as it brings back memories from their past. We have a fireplace in the back yard that you can charcoal grill on.

Wonderful place to relax.

  • 5 of 5

Loved the house we stayed in. It had to be the cleanest place, bar none, we've ever stayed in and that includes five star hotels. The area supplied a peaceful ambiance that is difficult to find anywhere else. Wonderful stay.

Wonderful House!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at the Amish Guest House. The location was perfect, just a short walk to the shops and restaurants and 15 min. from Dutch Wonderland. The house was very clean and cozy. We can't wait to go back again.

Quaint

  • 5 of 5

The house brought me back to my childhood. It is a great place to sit and relax after a full day of shopping, and site seeing. John and Ruthie have made sure everything you need is there. The house impeccably clean and the beds are really comfortable. The front covered porch is such a bonus to the house to just sit and watch the traffic of the horse and buggies going by. We will definitely be back. Thank you John and Ruthie.

Clean, Comfy, and Highly Recommended!!!

  • 5 of 5

Our warmest appreciation to John and Ruthie for sharing their delightful Amish Guest House with us! WONDERFUL people! Very safe neighborhood. Great location to the MANY sights and shops in the area. HIGHLY RECOMMEND especially for quilters! Many quilt & fabric shops close by. All we needed was in this lovely home-away-from-home. Comfortable variety of furniture, good lighting. . .(though we recommend quilters bring an Ott-light). We slept very well here, enjoyed our breakfasts and sipping coffee on the lovely front porch, and looked forward to returning each evening to relax while working on our quilt projects. If you stay at this lovely Guest House, be sure to ask the owners of their very interesting family history. They even have a delightful DVD of thier family history which was delightful to see. Very, very welcoming hosts that take special care of their property!!! We hope to stay here again next year. We simply loved ALLl about this home and location.
