About John Stoltzfus
Ruthie was born in the Village of Intercourse. Her parents were both brought up in the Amish church but left the Amish church when she was two years old and joined a Mennonite church. Her family spoke Pennsylvania Dutch and her parents continued to speak 'Dutch' to each other throughout their life. Grandparents and some extended family members remained Amish and therefore, she was very comfortable in their homes and grew up understanding their customs. John was also brought up Amish in a family of nine, his dad was a farmer on a 140 acre dairy farm. John left the Amish church at age 21 and joined the same Mennonite church that Ruthie attended. We now attend Keystone Evangelical Free Church. We have two children and five beautiful grandchildren.
John Stoltzfus purchased this House in 2006
Why John Stoltzfus chose Intercourse
We bought this property to provide our guests with a clean, cozy 'home away from home.' Both homes have hand painted murals on the walls. The Vacation House offers a fully equipped kitchen, a laundry room with a washer and dryer, large dining room, large living room with a sofa bed and cable TV with a DVD and VHS player and free WIFI. Two bedrooms [both with a queen and single bed], one full bath and a powder room in the front bedroom and a pack and play. It also has a flag stone porch to sit and watch the horse and buggies go by. The Cottage [Dawdi Haus] is a great room with two queen beds and a full bathroom with a shower, sitting area with table and chairs, sofa bed, refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, toaster oven, cable TV with a DVD and VHS player and free WIFI. It has a wonderful porch with a swing that is perfect for relaxing and watching the horse and buggies go by. For more Cottage information and calendar go to the Amish Guest House Cottage link Both facilities are air conditioned and provide telephones with free local calls, free WIFI and a light continental breakfast.
What makes this House unique
What we hear a lot from our guests is their love of seeing and hearing the Amish horse and buggies going by as they sit on the porch. We have a double glider in the back yard to relax on and also flower gardens. There is a working old fashioned hand pump that the children enjoy playing with and that adults also enjoy as it brings back memories from their past. We have a fireplace in the back yard that you can charcoal grill on.

Great second time around
Feels like home. Second visit in 5 months. Spacious, convenient to everything including Sight and Sound theater and walking distance to kitchen kettle village. John is a great host, house is spotless and cannot beat the price!
just what we needed!
The house was great as it fit our needs with a full kitchen, two bedrooms which could sleep all four of us, and a washer/dryer. The house was comfortable and has some history to it which John explained to us. Best part for my wife was we were within walking distance of the meat market, which sold more then just meats. Route 30 is no more then a twenty minute drive for other needs, We loved it and would enjoy spending our time there next year around the same time
Amish ambiance with modern comforts!
Wonderful house with a perfect location. Clean, clean, clean!! I wish I could get my bathrooms as spotless! Traditional but awesome WiFi reception (if you are looking for that) and tv. Nice yard with wooden swing good for any age...Kids relaxed out there despite cold weather. Plenty of room for 6 people without being on top of each other as we had me, my husband, 2 teenagers, and my inlaws! Walking is easy to kitchen kettle village. We will be back! Thank you John and Ruthie!
This 2 bedroom home is kept so nice. The owners are very helpful and friendly. John came to meet us immediately upon arrival and pointed out some of the history of his family and his wife's. House and grounds could not be kept any cleaner. They left a homemade loaf of bread and homemade jam, milk in fridge, coffee etc. There are 2 bedrooms and a 1/2 bath in one bedroom and a full bath in the hall. Dining room with large table. Large living room with TV and DVD player. We enjoyed the DVD's provided on Amish history and owners own family history. The location is perfect for anywhere you want to get in the area. The only downside for us being from the country was there is a lot of traffic noise during the day. Fairly quiet in evenings though. I would highly recommend this home and would return. Thanks so much John for your hospitality!
Perfect place to stay
My daughter and I stayed at this wonderful home for 5 nights. It was homey and immaculate in its cleanliness. John was so welcoming in pointing out several things of interest in the house. Definitely watch his DVDs. There were several extras in the kitchen that are not always seen in VRBO houses. The bread and homemade jam that John brought over were perfect for breakfast or a sandwich. Definitely shop at Stoltzfus Meats, eat at Dienner's Country Restaurant and enjoy drives in the peaceful countryside.
A beautiful and cozy home away from home
Thanks for allowing us to experience and enjoy an Amish town
We are located in the village of Intercourse and you can walk to approx. 50 shops, grocery store, restaurants, park, laundromat, and library. Spooky Nook Sports complex is a 30 minute drive. You can sit on the porch and see the Amish coming to town in there horse and buggies to shop and do business.
