Hi, I’m Ryan, the owner of Corton Lodge. I grew up in the mountains of West Virginia, and after nearly three decades away, I returned home to restore a 1913 church into a peaceful retreat where others could rest, reflect, and reconnect with nature.

Living with Parkinson’s has taught me to cherish every moment and pour my heart into what matters most. Every detail of Corton Lodge — from the handcrafted trim made from trees milled across the street, to the original bell that still rings daily — is part of a deeper story of healing, hope, and beauty.

I believe in offering hospitality that touches the soul and a space where guests feel truly welcome. I hope your stay brings you comfort, peace, and a little wonder too.

Why they chose this property

From the moment I saw this 1913 church, tucked between the mountains and the Elk River, I felt something sacred. Not just in its past as a place of worship, but in the way the light streamed through the steeple, the original maple floors whispered stories, and the land stretched with promise.

I knew it had to be saved — not just restored, but reimagined into a place of rest and renewal. Every board, every beam tells part of the story. Much of the wood trim was milled from trees just across the street. The bell that once called people to worship now rings daily — not as a call to duty, but a reminder to slow down, breathe, and be.

Corton Lodge isn’t just a place to stay — it’s a place to reconnect with nature, with your loved ones, and maybe even with your own soul.

What makes this property unique

Corton Lodge offers an unforgettable stay in a beautifully renovated 1913 church, blending sacred history with modern comfort. Where else can you sleep beneath century-old wood ceilings, ring a church bell that still tolls daily, and sip coffee on a deck overlooking the Elk River?

Guests enjoy:

Private boat launch access just steps from the lodge

Over 4.5 miles of private hiking trails across 180 acres

High-end West Virginia-made furniture by Gat Creek

Custom laser-etched tile artwork and handcrafted wood trim milled on-site

Two spacious suites with kids’ lofts, full kitchens, and vaulted ceilings

A riverfront pavilion and fire pit for gatherings, weddings, or quiet reflection

Historic touches throughout — including the original maple floors and a beam signed in 1913
