  • The property is beautiful; a scenic mountain view with the New River out the front window.

"The location was great; only 15-20 minutes to Beckley and a little longer to the New River Gorge Bridge. The cabin was clean and ready upon our arrival. We noticed a couple minor repairs needed in the downstairs bathroom, but nothing that kept us from using it. In fact the jacuzzi tub helped melt the long travel day away. The rooms were spacious and comfortable for our family of 8. There was a total of 5 rollaway beds and the kids said they were comfy, too. We had no trouble connecting to wifi. We ate several meals at the cabin including a couple bbq's and found more than enough space and utensils for our group. The grill is a gas/charcoal combo with smoker. No propane tank there, but we picked up some charcoal and had a great cookout. Some of our group did go down to swim in the river. Be aware that getting down the steps is a little treacherous and there are big boulders in the water right near the shoreline. But, once we got past those it was an awesome time in the water. On the final night we enjoyed s'mores at the fire pit in front. I was able to get in touch with Brock by texting and email. We received our deposit back about the time we got to our home. We really had an awesome time and would recommend you take advantage of this hidden gem."

  • Idyllic, private, and fairly priced. Made for a wonderful weekend with friends.

"30 y.o. male from here from northern wv. Friends and I rented this cabin with hopes of a comfortable and private setting to come back to after partaking in the area's many thrills. We were impressed by the accomodatings available considering the reasonable price (granted, we were there Tu-Th night). Accommodations include: a wrap around deck with a large screened in section that had a 3-4 person hot tub ready for use, very comfortable beds, some of wich had tempurpedic mattresses, xm radio, receiver, indoor-outdoor speakers, 3 bathrooms, washer, dryer, cable in every room, etc... And everything was clean. Very clean. Aside from the many comforts provided in the house we discovered well kept trails that led us to the top of the hill for stargazing and amateur astronomy, as well as a beautiful shaded pond filled with Lillie's and frogs. Outside of the screened in porch was a gravel patio with a fire place on the outside corner and plenty of dry firewood on the other end. Out door lights allowed us to play corn hole (wv horseshoes for the uninitiated) well into the night. Last bullet point... Privacy. Brenda, the owner, lives right down the road, but I didn't see her until I called before leaving. We spent a night or two up til 1-2 am playing music, drinking beer, and playing corn hole; not once was this an issue. Brenda appeared to appreciate the privacy as much as we did, she does live nearby after all. She was pleasant to talk to and informed us that we had probably gone overboard on cleaning. Her only request was to remove the trash. My one and only concern was that tap water could get far too hot. I informed Brenda, and she appeared unaware yet investigative about the situation which I appreciated. Over all, I had an amazing time near the gorge and Chestnut was the perfect sanctuary for me and my fellow adventurers. I plan on bringing family during autumn or winter. The area is beautiful and the house makes for a perfect wv woodland vacation spot. There are trails I still want to walk on the property and they would be gorgeous during fall and winter. Its a special place. Highly recommended."

  • Beautiful Cabin

"This place is amazing. I don't normally give reviews, but I felt I needed to for this place. My friends and I were in town for a rafting trip and this property was very close to the rafting companies, yet very secluded and private. The hot tub was fantastic and the deck was huge. Nice grill and fire pit. Very clean and well kept place. The place is even more beautiful than the pictures show. I was also happy to find that my cell phone worked here."

"Our family reunion was a huge success. The cabin indeed matches the photos & Mr. Toney is extremely cordial & helpful, the cabin was spotless & grounds were neat and clean. We were at full capacity & still were not at all crowded. I would HIGHLY recommend renting this for large gatherings."
