  • Thanksgiving in Hicco

"Arrived at the cabin with Paul's very detailed directions w/no problems. Nice and private. Short driveway had no issues. Greeted by 2 neighboring dogs, a friendly German Shepherd and a small white terrier mix (fearful); they appeared to be put up after our arrival. Charming and cozy. Hot tub in it's own room located off back porch. Nice porch/swing out front. Fireplace gave me some problems when I tried to get it going on Thanksgiving, but Paul gave instructions via phone and even offered to come over on turkey day to resolve the issue. Luckily I was able to get it going w/his instructions. Bedrooms have no closets to hang clothes; suggest portable clothes rack. Dressers have linen inside; suggest luggage rack. Shelves or racks in bathroom would be nice to put guests personal belongings on (ample room). A very short drive to town, approx. 10 minutes w/ample unique dining experiences and chain rest. Highly recommend the Sandwich Society and the neighboring old town village type stores. New River Gorge Bridge is approx. 6 miles away and the scenic drive is a must do. Other state parks are close by and offer great hikes and scenery for this time of year. Overall a good experience and a GREAT area to explore. Hicco we will return. Paul, Thank you for your hospitality."

  • Perfect Get Away

"We were looking for someplace to spend New Years Eve without spending a fortune on a place to stay. The Lafayette Flats was the PERFECT place for this. It was just my husband and I and we loved everything about the place, including the location. We stayed from December 30, 2016- January 2, 2017. To save some money, we cooked in for breakfast and dinners (the fridge is a smaller fridge that is in the island but it was the perfect size for us. They even have ice trays in the freezer!) Having the fully operational kitchen was helpful! The bed was super comfortable and the sheets were very nice. The pictures display the flat perfectly. We were not surprised by anything. Going in the winter, we weren't sure what to expect. There is so much in walking distance! We walked to a lot of local shops- antiques and gift shops. We ate at Pies and Pints- must go (in walking distance)! We drove to the Long Point Trail (less than 10 minutes) and did that hike. Awesome views of the bridge and just a really cool hike in the woods. The bridge is incredible, we went to the visitor center and walked around there. The Glade Creek Grist Mill in Babcock state park (20 minute drive) is unbelievable! The mill was closed but it was just beautiful to walk around there. I have been telling all of my friends about the flats and the area. It was a great way to bring in the New Year. Thanks for everything!"

  • The ONLY way to stay when visiting WV!

"We were a group of fireman that came for a weekend get away white water rafting. The Erskine is the only way we will go for now on. It was perfect to accommodate all of us guys and have plenty of enough room to never feel cramped. The house is broken up nice so we could play cards in one room, sit in the hot tub, hang out in the kitchen, watch tv or just play catch outside. The house itself is gorgeous and provided all of the essentials we needed to live there so we didn't have to pack too much. There is a laundry room which worked out perfect for all of our wet clothes after rafting. We will definitely be back again. I would recommend this house for families or groups of all sizes."
