About Barbara and Wayne
We live and work in Calgary and this unique log house has been our favourite year round retreat for the past 14 years. We have had many guests, artists, writers & musicians who have asked if they could take their holidays here so we are sharing it, as we currently are not using it full time.
Barbara and Wayne purchased this Cabin in 2005
Why Barbara and Wayne chose Pincher Creek No. 9
This place was my studio for many years. I am an artist. The surrounding countryside is spectacular. The 2 hour drive from Calgary is easy and beautiful. This is a wildlife corridor and yet there is easy access to the property. It is quiet, private, cozy and comfortable. There is something really special and fulfilling about this house and the 10 acres around it.
What makes this Cabin unique
The large windows provide a feeling of being outside with all the comforts of home. The wood walls and vaulted ceilings offer wonderful acoustics. Old buildings and the unique landscape create a visual experience at the door. There's room to play right on site. In June & July the wildflowers fill the meadows in the front; Summer is sweet, the fall hikes are spectacular and in the winter it is a cosy retreat close to winter sport facilities.

A very interesting and cozy place
This was a lovely quiet location for us. It is an interesting and unique interior design. We loved the games and lego and let our predetermined plans slide so we could just relax. It was a great place for a family holiday.
Peace and Quiet in the Pass
Our family of 6 plus our dog had a wonderful stay at Bluebird Cabin. Situated neatly in the centre of sites like Waterton, Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump, and the Crowsnest Pass, we had lots to do...or not. The beauty of the open prairie where it connects to the mountains can be experienced here. Breathtaking. Comfortable and filled with light, the cabin had all we needed to start our summer vacation right. Thank you!
Beautiful Country getaway
We really enjoyed our stay here. The property has a lovely porch to sit and relax at the back with a big hill that protects you from the wind. There are many birds to watch and listen to. Every morning and evening a deer would wander through the property. The owner has obviously spent a lot of time exploring the river banks collecting a wide range of smooth interesting rocks and stones. There is a horseshoe pit as well as a fire pit. We did not have a fire since we were in bed by 10:00 p.m. and up at 6:00 a.m. everyday.
A hummingbird was flying around the big old pine tree in the back one evening along with the Northern Flicker's feeding their young in that same tree. We also saw 2 Great Blue Herons flying east 2 nights in a row at 8:30 p.m. Along with a Bald Eagle. If you love birds and country life, this is the place for you. It reminded me a lot of the country farmhouse experience you get outdoors.
The night sky is beautiful on a clear evening too! We spent our days hiking in Waterton Lakes National Park. If you do this, set aside one extra day just to enjoy this house and property. I hope I can return one day and truly enjoy the nearby sites.
The three bedrooms had plenty of room and all the beds were very comfortable. The kitchen is completely equipped with plenty of dishes, mugs, wine glasses, pots etc. I could tell the owner's cook and know what is needed for their guests. We loved cooking on the hot Barbeque. The grates are cast iron or heavy metal and perfect for cooking. They don't make the new ones like this.
The interior of the house is like a log cabin, very well laid out with plenty of windows to watch for wildlife. I loved this! You can really tell the owner's love their property and have taken a lot of time to make it the dream cabin/home that it is.
It's a Very special place. A 5 plus plus.
Peaceful Crowsnest Pass getaway
Bluebird Cabin's rustic charm was the perfect home away from home for our two week holiday. The online photos and description of the property represent it exactly as it is. Gorgeous views from every window, excellent location close to Crowsnest Pass communities, historic sites and awesome fishing/plein air painting/photography spots! Yes, there were lots of bluebirds and many other varieties of winged friends but the morning, noon and night visits from the hummingbirds were our favourites. We would definitely stay at this log home again and recommend it to anyone wanting to explore the beauty of the landscape of the area.
A Very Special Place
Our stay at the Bluebird Cabin this summer was a wonderful experience. My husband and I, along with my 12 year old son and his friend spent a week there recently and we were so very pleased with our trip from start to finish. The cabin itself is charming, comfortable, cozy, and equipped with quite literally everything we could have needed. We also thoroughly enjoyed exploring the grounds...and as a bit of a photography nut...I was in my glory! Having spent many summers in the Crowsnest Pass, it was a treat to have such a wonderful landing place to call "home" for a week while we showed the kids around to all my favorite spots in the area. The cabin is very aptly named, for if you're a bird-lover - this is the spot for you. We were greeted nearly every morning by dozens of birds...including bluebirds. We also had wild turkeys stop by for a visit and many deer wander through the lot. The owners of the property were very kind and their hospitality most appreciated. We'd very much like to return someday soon, and will bring the only thing missing...a couple of other family members to share it with :)
Cozy winter retreat
What a cozy place to unwind! Big windows, sunshine pouring in and everything you need. The owners are true to their word and helpful. The photos don't do it justice. There were 4 of us, two couples and we are thinking of coming back for a summer holiday.
