About Your host

As your host, my dearest wish is for you to enjoy your stay and feel at home in your houseboat.

Why Your host chose Grachtengordel

To live in a houseboat in the 'Old Center' of Amsterdam but in the residential part : 'East side'.

Why Live In A houseboat ? : I understood that a flat is too noisy, as the walls are too thin with buildings on pilotis in Amsterdam. A barge is too steep-sided.

What makes this house boat unique

You are tucked away on your own island in the middle of town.

Only renting the houseboat when I’m in the countryside, a 'polder', which is very closeby.

Your houseboat is not merely an impersonal and soulless rental property, as I prefer to welcome my friends and guests in a friendly spirit rather than dealing with business customers.

Wonderful stay, fabulous location

  • 5 of 5

The houseboat is absolutely charming. We were here in November and it was nice and cosy, we weren't cold at all. The kitchen has everything you could need and more for making your own meals. We felt very at home and loved waking up to the ducks and the swans at our window. Lionel was an excellent host and gave us up to date information about how to find the houseboat and recommendations for what to do in Amsterdam. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our time on the houseboat and would recommend it as a place to stay for those who like to do something a little different. Thank you Lionel!

Little gem in a great location!

  • 4 of 5

Stayed on this quirky, unique lovey little houseboat for 4 nights on the recommendation from a friend. It’s great! Lovely location, super quiet. The houseboat can get a little cold in the winter so leave your heaters on low so it’s cosy. The shower is really nice and hot which was great and there’s everything you need on board. Would definitely return :)

A magical place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We greatly enjoyed staying in Lionel's houseboat! His cousin greeted us warmly and showed us everything, and emphasized that we could call him or Lionel anytime with any questions or problems. The boat was a comfortable size for two people, and the kitchen had everything we needed. The decorations were very charming, and the boat was just a short walk from many of the sites we wanted to visit.

Wonderful Houseboat In Amersterdam

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had an absolutely relaxing and wonderful time on the houseboat. The decor is incredible and we felt so much at home. It's in a beautiful, peaceful location but just a quick walk to the shops and restaurants. The owner was incredibly helpful throughout the whole process, even before we arrived, with providing directions and the best ways to get wherever we were trying to go. From the customer service to the location and the houseboat itself, I would recommend anyone to stay here.

A fantasy come tru

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at his property was a fantasy fulfilled – waking up each morning on a classic houseboat on a beautiful canal in the heart of Amsterdam. Each morning we brewed tea and threw open the windows to say good morning to the ducks. In the evenings we poured wine and waved to the passing tour boats. At night, we watched the light fade in the skylight above our bed. Magic. The boat had everything we needed for cooking, great wireless, and so close to everything. And Lionel couldn’t have been more helpful. When our flight to Amsterdam was delayed he was absolutely understanding, and he was there waiting for us when we finally arrived. I don’t know when we’ll be back to Amsterdam again, but whenever it is, we’ll stay with Lionel again.
