« Les Maisons d’Antan » (i.e. the houses of days gone) , classificated five stars by the tourism Ministry, consist of two dwellings dating back to the 18th century. They were built in traditional stones and slates of the region and Isabelle Hossein totally renovated and refurbished them. She enhanced the feeling of intimacy and privacy that emanates from the place and gave a new touch to the different rooms though respecting the regional spirit that is present in a monumental fireplace for instance. At the same time, a regional renowned landscape gardener designed the gardens. The property is near the capital of prehistory, les Eyzies de Tayac, whitch is listed by Unesco World Heritage of Humanity. Here was born the science of prehistory, thanks to excavations that started in 1863 and last until today. The cave paintings of Lascaux, a unique presentation of prehistoric art, displays Cro Magnon's life as hunter and artist, as warrior and painter, an inestimable insig

An absolute delightful property within a gorgeous part of the world.
The property matches the area in that it is totally unspoilt and very rustic. I can recommend this to any group considering a stay in The Dordogne. Our stay was mid-April when the weather begins to improve. 26 degrees on our final day-perfect!
thanks you very mch for your review
we hope to see you in the future
have a good day
Wonderful villa of gorgeous old stone -- a beautiful welcome for friends and family
An excellent home with a sense of history, perfect to give every visitor beautifully private spaces (with 5 beds and baths), yet with room to come together for evenings and fun. We had 15 people join us at different times over our three weeks, and there was plenty of room to cook together, barbecue, dine outside or in the kitchen or in the elegant dining room or by the pool. We had gorgeous fall sun by the heated pool, and the house is well equipped, with minor problems quickly taken care of. Some fabulous design -- we just wish we knew more of the house's history. Excellent location -- with a 5-minute (by car) run to the village for croissants in the morning, pretty much everything necessary in the village, close to major attractions (15 or 20 minutes to Lascaux -- 20 to Sarlat). We were thrilled and thank Pierre and Marie.
We enjoyed our stay at the villa Les Maisons d’Antan very much. It had a rustic charm you rarely find mixed with modern convenience. The kitchen was well equipped and made it easy to cook every meal but the first one there. The owner, Marie, was kind enough to make our reservation at Le Escaleyrou, an excellent restaurant, only a few minutes away, for our first meal since we were tired after driving from Paris CDG airport. We then shopped at several of the local markets for fresh provisions and tried our hand at French cooking. The caretaker, Florence, was very helpful in showing us around and was quick to answer any questions we had. We contacted her either via email or even called her on the phone. The villa was convenient to all the Dordogne charming towns and attractions. We would return to this charming villa anytime in the future.
Thanks you very much for this nice review
i hope to see you in the future
I wish you a very good day
Perfect property for a stay in the Dordogne. Filled with character and charm. Quiet countryside location conveniently located between Sarlat and Montignac. Would recommend to family and friends.
Thanks you very much for your review
we are very very glad that you enjoyed your stay at the maisons d'Antan.
Have a good night
Family stay in Dordogne
Lovely stay, great property, great rooms. We'll recommended.
Little piece of paradise
This place was definetley a little piece of paradise in France. The property was spectacular, all the rooms well kept and the decor was fresh but in keeping with the area. Having the pool was an absolute bonus as the sun was shining for our whole stay. Lovely and quite in the evenings, great to have a BBQ and a few drinks with your friends / family on the terrace with plenty on laughs had. But if you wanted a quiet night in your room you felt like you were in a little world of your own.
St Gènies a half hour walk or 5 minute drive was gorgeous, especially the Sunday food market and the evening market on the Wednesday where you can eat with the locals and try some of the local cuisine, Devine :0)
Sarlat, a 15 minute drive away is a wonderful medieval town whe you can soak up the atmosphere sat in one of the bars / restaurants and just watch life pass you by.
Canoeing on the Dordogne is a must, spectacular views and lovely to be on the water in the heat. You can go as fast or as slow as you like and it's great with a group of friends.
Just a fantastic place to visit...and we will hopefully return at some point in the future.
we would most definitely recommend staying at Maison d'Antan to our friends. The house and the surrounding towns and villages are beautiful. The region has many interesting places to visit and things to do. The markets in St. Genies and Sarlat were wonderful. It made us feel part of the town rather than just passing through.
Our stay at Maison d'Antan was fabulous. The setting is private and lovely and the house fully equipped making us feel as though we were in our own home....We had a fantastic two weeks with family from 10 years to 49! We really did not need to go anywhere as it was comfortable at Les Maisons d’Antan.
